"... here in bitterly cold Oklahoma City." Yes it was! I walked to the arena from my brother's apartment that night. The cold was unreal... totally worth it though! What a great show!
The went out of business under Zuffa management. In 2010, Strikeforce had the same level of talent as the UFC, if not higher (not the same depth, but the same level at the top), was putting more exciting shows, and had a TON of momentum, announcing the first every world class HW Grand Prix on American soil. That all changed when Zuffa bought them. They sucked the talent, fired most of the staff, barely promoted, and just bled Strikeforce dry to eliminate competition. Investors are naive.
big ups to frank...i know this is about frank but so many people give ariel shit but dude does get the best interviews and gets real emotional responses from fighters
Frank Shamrock: 1st UFC Middleweight champion, holds the record for fasted submission win in UFC history, retired undefeated in the UFC after beating everyone they put in front of him...how is he not in the Hall of Fame again?
Best interview ever!!! At least when you include the hero walk off. The only thing that would have made it better is if frank turned around and said "hey kid...", and then tossed Ariel an old protective cup from his fighting days! Then it would have been perfect.
Frank is a Legend, one of the first multi trained fighters and an incredible heart and desire to win, he beat Dan Henderson in his prime and Tito Ortiz in his prime !!! He should be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame !!!!!!!! Period
LOL! Gus was actually an excellent commentator, in my opinion, but that statement was an unfortunately horrendous gaffe. Of all the times to have the only post-fight brawl in his career, Diaz HAD to pick the 2nd showing on national television do it! Then Gus makes a statement that makes such catastrophes appear commonplace in the sport... I'll just choose to think about their CBS debut. That was one of the best moments in MMA history.
Strikeforce was amazing just think they had werdum, Daley, Cung le, Fedor, Nick Diaz, Gilbert Melendez, Josh Barnett, Jason Miller, Dan Henderson, Babalu AMAZING FIGHTS
Frank is a great guy who deserves to be in the UFC Hall of Fame. Until that happens the UFC Hall of Fame is just pictures on a wall that don't mean shit. The UFC should be ashamed of themselves.
yup, it's competition that brings out the best in everybody. In pro-wrestling, when the WWF and WCW were battling, they both stepped up their game. Now that WWF(now WWE) is the BIG dog, it sucks ass, BAD. Yeah, TNA is there, but they're waaaay down the scale, money-wise. (I know alot of MMA fans despise pro-wrestling, but there is a correlation, at least in this example.)
I think there's no talk because everyone knows he should be in the HOF and everyone knows Dana won't let it happen. We just don't want to waste our breath on someone that won't listen.
I think that having one organization dominate mma makes mma worse overall. I thought that mma was the most exciting when there was two big mma organizations, UFC and Pride.
Both fighters deserve a place in the UFC HoF, why do you believe it has to be either one or the other? The reason Lesnar deserves his spot for two reasons (1) he was a heavyweight champion beating two former champions (Couture and Mir), as well as a durable veteran in Heath Herring and top-contender Shane Carwin, but also because (2) he was only the second combat sports fighter since Mike Tyson (1996) to draw over one-million PPV buys THREE TIMES in just over a year.
It was an investor decision, unfortunately. Scott Coker certainly didn't want to give his baby over to certain destruction. He just didn't have a choice in the matter.
I'm sad the UFC bought Strikeforce. But it doesn't matter what organization it is they all have awesome fights. I want Gilbert Melendez to get the shit kicked out of him though. He lost his last fight with Thomson I don't care what the judges said.
Never cared for Frank since he came out of retirement. Bottom line, Strikeforce had some entertaining fights and some of my favourite fighters but the org has just gone away, not the fighters and now these guys have better opportunity, more competitive opponents on the biggest stage. The fans don't lose at all.
Too technical? For your info thats for the fans that dont know whats going on. Mike is the exciting one and Joe is the educational one. This sport is still growing so until it getting big like NFL and soccer we still need people tell the new fans wats going on especially on the ground game.
Also, Pride wasn't afraid to cross-promote like the UFC is. I should stop myself because I could write a dissertation on how many aspects that Pride was superior to the UFC. Your assertion about gangsters and match fixing shows your ignorance of the sport's history, Japanese culture, and the shady history of Zuffa and the UFC.
I've always liked Frank Shamrock, IMO MMA fans are easily manipulated by dana white and what he thinks about certain people and don't have there own personal opinions.
Eh, he certainly didn't help Pride stick around. Of course, his account of things is completely different, but as the saying goes, words are cheap. Look at the pattern of what happened to all the world class promotions that Zuffa purchased. You can believe what Dana says (I would never advise doing that) or you can look at the facts of what happened. Zuffa purchased promotions to eliminate competition and bled them dry. They kept SF around just long enough for the FCC investigation to end.
Man, its suck to see this happen and it even more fucked up that we all know this was going to happen. For a period of time Strikeforce was more exciting than the UFC. And, also Dana needs to stop putting on this fake front that he cared what happened to the fighters. Lastly the UFC Hall of Fame is nothing without Frank Shamrock.
This is bad that the UFC bought out Strikeforce I think Strikeforce had the better fights in Strikeforce you had to train hard and earn a Title shot. Not just talk shit then all of a sudden you get a Title shot. (Jones vs Shonnen). Bye Bye Strikeforce gonna miss you
Very true my friend unfotunately in the U.S that showboating wwe or f whatever it is is alot bigger and U.S americans think thats real and that Leznar is an mma fighter wich even though he did step in the cage ( much respect for that) he wasnt in there long enough to call him an mma fighter but anyways to bad ufc is becoming so big that they wont let other organization grow and become another option for new fighters to grow and get some publicity...
It's the UFC Hall of FAME, Frank beat Jeremy Horn and Tito, the only big names in his five UFC fights. Wow, big deal. Now if you say he should be in an MMA HOF I would say, hell yeah put him in there. As for Brock, who beat Herring, Mir, Couture and Carwin, it is A Hall of FAME and Brock arguably became more famous than any HW at the time he was in the UFC. Brock sucks as a fighter and if HOF was based off of skill instead of FAME, like the name implies, then he should definitely not be there.
as a latecomer to world of mma and been listening to Frank Shamrock he comes accross as a really cool dude..
"... here in bitterly cold Oklahoma City."
Yes it was! I walked to the arena from my brother's apartment that night. The cold was unreal... totally worth it though! What a great show!
Ariel made it really sad at the end, goodnight strikforce, goodnight.
The went out of business under Zuffa management. Much respect to Frank. Hes a legend and everyone knows he helped grow MMA.
Prffttt dude come on.first LHW champ with 4 defences and unbeaten in UFC and what he did for the sport of MMA, totally deserves it.
big ups to frank...i know this is about frank but so many people give ariel shit but dude does get the best interviews and gets real emotional responses from fighters
dam ariel is so good at his job. well deserved journalist/interview of the year 2012
Frank Shamrock: 1st UFC Middleweight champion, holds the record for fasted submission win in UFC history, retired undefeated in the UFC after beating everyone they put in front of him...how is he not in the Hall of Fame again?
Agreed, among many others who deserve UFC hall of fame.
Its just sad how they fight like men in a cage but hold beef with each other like women. I believe he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame for sure.
Man Dana needs too chop that beef up. Shamrock is MMA, and deserves a job somewhere in the UFC.
Period
All the best Frank! Your SF run was epic.
Amazing improv at the end!
You gotta love Frank! I wish to see him on some big shows in some capacity. Too bad he made enemies with Dana.
Strikeforce was amazing just think they had werdum, Daley, Cung le, Fedor, Nick Diaz, Gilbert Melendez, Josh Barnett, Jason Miller, Dan Henderson, Babalu AMAZING FIGHTS
Ariel knows how to make more sad this strikeforce farewell
@1:59
Pat Miletich looking like a boss showing his face.
Definitely a good way to end an interview.
Nicely done Ariel. Nicely done.
Frank is a great guy who deserves to be in the UFC Hall of Fame. Until that happens the UFC Hall of Fame is just pictures on a wall that don't mean shit. The UFC should be ashamed of themselves.
That's walk off was so funny and also sad good night!
great Interview Ariel

when he said cesar gracie...knocked him out I dieed LOL
Frank Shamrock deserves respect !
but he didn't say that. He said "Cesar Gracie" DOT. And then he said "(he) knocked him (Gracie) out".
Frank only had like 4 or 5 fights in the UFC. He deserves to be in some kind of MMA hall of fame but not the UFC
i'm gonna miss mma on showtime
man....im gonna miss strikeforce
Love Frank Shamrock, loved Strikeforce.
"Get up Frank, your a fucking legend!"
Sad to see it go!
Frank is going to work regardless. Show time will get back in the MMA cause it was free to watch. I believe by the summer you will see a new show.
Would like to see Invicta FC or OneFC on Showtime.
Anyone know how much Scott made out of the Zuffa deal? You can feel Frank's pain that things went the way they did.
Even if they offered, which they NEVER would, he wouldn't accept.
The last turns off the light
you listed 2 color commentators. You need a host commentator like Anik, Renallo or Goldberg.
That was the best ending ever!
The UFC is Dana's and Lorenzo's baby, Strikeforce was their unwanted stepchild. They never gave a shit about the brand.
I'm gonna miss strikeforce
"Goodnight Strikeforce, Goodnight" = started tearing up like a bitch
Nice end in slow motion. I'm that strike forece wont be there anymore.
They've already done that a while ago, Overeem, Henderson, Diaz etc, where have you been?
It was an investor decision, unfortunately. Scott Coker certainly didn't want to give his baby over to certain destruction. He just didn't have a choice in the matter.
I'm sad the UFC bought Strikeforce. But it doesn't matter what organization it is they all have awesome fights. I want Gilbert Melendez to get the shit kicked out of him though. He lost his last fight with Thomson I don't care what the judges said.

Dana had nothing to do with Pride falling apart. Strikeforce on the other hand...
Too technical? For your info thats for the fans that dont know whats going on. Mike is the exciting one and Joe is the educational one. This sport is still growing so until it getting big like NFL and soccer we still need people tell the new fans wats going on especially on the ground game.

LMAO AT THE END xD
yup, I did... same thing.
No. He was the first popular fighter to cross-train, though.
Best walk out eva!
That literally could not be any more untrue.
UFC is killing the evolution of the sport man, killing the growth by making the market way smaller.
yup, especially if their Spike tv thing does well in the ratings, UFC will sabotage em...
Cant lie the ending was funny as hell
Maybe world series of fighting or invicta might be up next for strikeforce, titan if those two dont step up. King of the cage?
Good night Strikeforce, good night. :(
True Legend!
It was Frank who knocked out Cesar?
I've always liked Frank Shamrock, IMO MMA fans are easily manipulated by dana white and what he thinks about certain people and don't have there own personal opinions.
Frank shamrock should start a organisation, he wouldnt buckle under the pressure to sell to zuffa
Pride threatens UFC's market share, UFC buys pride, Pride shuts down... Strikeforce threatens UFC's market share, UFC buys Strikeforce, Strikeforce shuts down... notice a pattern?
"good night strikeforce, good night"
Going out of business isnt really "impossible".
A lot of great fighters came out of strikeforce from Nick diaz to Cain Velasquez. RIP strikeforce.
I agree!
they should've dubbed in the incredible hulk outro music for Franks walk out...
UFC is a monopoly, there was more integrity with pride
Eh, he certainly didn't help Pride stick around. Of course, his account of things is completely different, but as the saying goes, words are cheap. Look at the pattern of what happened to all the world class promotions that Zuffa purchased.

ha the hero walk was tight! thanks for the good fights strikeforce
Its funny how everyone looks at Ariels nose at the beginning of every video. "damn that thing is huge"
Poor guy I hope you do good after this
Man, its suck to see this happen and it even more fucked up that we all know this was going to happen. For a period of time Strikeforce was more exciting than the UFC. And, also Dana needs to stop putting on this fake front that he cared what happened to the fighters. Lastly the UFC Hall of Fame is nothing without Frank Shamrock.
That was fuckin great!!!
Best ending!
`he should be in the ufc hall of fame also bas rutten
best fucking walk out ever. lmao
nice ending
MMA legend hope he will comment in UFC instead of Florian
This is bad that the UFC bought out Strikeforce I think Strikeforce had the better fights in Strikeforce you had to train hard and earn a Title shot. Not just talk shit then all of a sudden you get a Title shot. (Jones vs Shonnen). Bye Bye Strikeforce gonna miss you
@AndresD209 Frank Shamrock isn't in the UFC hall of fame
Very true my friend unfotunately in the U.S that showboating wwe or f whatever it is is alot bigger and U.S americans think thats real and that Leznar is an mma fighter wich even though he did step in the cage ( much respect for that) he wasnt in there long enough to call him an mma fighter but anyways to bad ufc is becoming so big that they wont let other organization grow and become another option for new fighters to grow and get some publicity...
you need a host
yes he knocked Caeser Gracie
It's the UFC Hall of FAME, Frank beat Jeremy Horn and Tito, the only big names in his five UFC fights. Wow, big deal.
