This episode gets even darker when you realize Hama is the reason why the Fire Nation stopped imprisoning waterbenders and just smoked them instead, because if one of them could learn bloodbending, others could as well and there would be no way to stop them. A similar thing happens in episode 7 of this season, when they put Toph in a wooden cell; metal is no longer safe, so they switch to wood

Katara feeling so guilty for doing what she had to in order to save her friends is honestly heartbreaking. Shows what normally kind people will do to protect their loved ones though.
Even more heartbreaking when you consider the fact that all she wanted was to make sure blood bending was passed on.
In this episode the bad guy won. Hama didn't care about killing Aang or Sokka, she just needed to push Katara to the point where she would have to use bloodbending and it worked.

Something you guys didn’t realize is when Katara and Hama were fighting Katara used an earth bending technique that even Hama was impressed “face it like a rock”
The Puppet Master (Blood Bending) episode originally aired around Halloween. Perfect vibe for that story.

Master Paku was trying to marry Kataras grandma, not Hama. Also the water tribe they learnt waterbending at was the northern tribe, the tribe katara and hama grew up in was the southern tribe.
This the first time I’ve seen these guys die of laughter🤣🤣🤣 that last episode finished me

Appa and Momo's confrontation gets more and more funny when you remember that both of them are voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, the same guy who voices the Clones in Clone Wars 😁❤
Some people bashed Katara for crying about being a blood bender and not wanting to use its advantage. To me it was the betrayal Hama did to her, in cultures like Kataras it normal to respect your elders. Hama was the only other southern water tribe bender we’ve seen. Katara had that connection to her on top of due respect she’d give an elder, and Hama betrayed her trust by her actions and forcing her to use blood bending to save her loved ones. It became overwhelming when Hama felt the need to rub it in with that congratulations 😭
In some ways blood bending is worse than killing. It's not rape. But, it's getting into that vicinity. Taking over someone's body while they fight mentally and physically to no avail is a scary idea.

Hama literally says your FORCE your will onto anything and anyone.
The self-serving, not caring about the other persons, or anyone (or things) around you well-being is there. With the added violation of actual going into someone own body and doing as you please with it. Just without the s*xual aspect of it, obviously.
Which is why the thing with the flowers is a subtle red flag. Like yea, they're just flowers. But you didn't have to destroy all of them.
@@iamtotallynot123yeah, even when LoK has some morally questionable Waterbenders, we never see any of them rip water from living things like Hama. It's a bridge too far even for some villains
it took me a while to figure out hama was basically doing to the fire nation citizens what they had done to the water tribe prisoners (imprisoning them away from their element/the sun)
i doubt anyone rescued those people :(
Oh no. After Hama they killed their prisoners. They weren't going to risk another waterbender being able to do that again.

You can't imagine this show becoming this when it was so giddy in the beginning. Its a show for everybody. Even grandpa can relate and use the life lessons.

I have watched most of the ATLA reaction videos, and I can tell you that you are doing the best ones of them all who are currently active, or ever been around.

Hama and Jet are such tragic characters. The fire nation permanently scarred them to where they no longer have empathy for ANYONE in the fire nation. Hama is essentially Magneto. Her oppressors took everything from her, and she'll NEVER forgive them. Even Aang, a devoted monk, resorted to killing a living creator when Momo was almost stolen, and I'm pretty sure he would've killed the Sandbenders as well if Katara wasn't there to calm him down!

I remember as a kid in 2nd - 3rd Grade my Mom told me to go to sleep and I didn't want to listen bcus I wanted to watch Inuyasha. My dumb butt stayed up 3 days straight bcus I didn't want to listen.
1st Day was cool, I was Chillin and enjoying myself having a blast. I'm talking ALL types of happy that I didn't go to sleep. It felt like total freedom. Then day 2 came and I was mellow about everything. Still happy that I was staying up, not listening on going to bed trying to act all grown up but the world was looking a lil different...Then day 3 came and BOI!!
I never felt so tired and defeated In My Life. I was so tired I was struggling just to walk off the bus in the morning let alone pay attention in class. My appetite was completely gone, I couldn't play with my friend's bcus I genuinely didn't have the strength to do anything, things didn't seem real at all but it was all types of weird and I was fighting the whole day to not pass out mid walk. All I wanted to do was go straight home and go to bed. No Dinner, No Dessert, No TV, No Video Games, NOTHING BUT PURE BED TIME and a whole 4 hours ahead of my actual bed time.
I told myself I'd NEVER do that gain and I kept that promise still till this day. Couldn't pay me to do that shit again. The worst thing about it was I was one of those kids doped up off of candy, sugar and soda to some of the highest degrees and I crashed and burned HARD!!
Yeah the Puppetmaster is one of the most memorable episodes. Not only do you have the introduction to Bloodbending, but it’s also a scary episode. Like the Avatar Halloween episode along with the Swamp. Hama is one of the best antagonists. Runaway is a great experience episode for development of Toph and Katara. Nightmares and Daydreams is a great idea for a silly deviation before a big climatic couple of episodes. Book 3 is just seamless in providing all we love of the series on the way to the big finale

One thing I love about the episode of Hama, or Avatar the last Airbender show in general, is that even though you are at war, not everything is black and white. There are good and bad people of all nations. Hama is the story of most villain back stories. Not everyone in the fire nation is bad (Iroh, Zuko). Not everyone in the water tribe, earth kingdom, or the air nation are good (Long Feng, General Fong, Hama, Afiko and Jesa). You learn why people are the way they are. It’s no excuse when you hurt others, but you understand it. You see what happens when a person gets pushed too far. This show helps you understand humanity. This will always be my favorite show!

I’ve been waiting for you guys to get to The Runaway and The Puppetmaster since the beginning! These are some of the best episodes in the series, yet it still only gets better. The Puppetmaster also aired close to Halloween, in that spooky Nickelodeon tradition

Blood binding is very taboo
It shouldn't be. It's no more inherently evil than firebending is. It's really frustrating that that the sub-bending Katara gets is demonised.
@bkwrm true but still blood binding is like the 3 unforgivable curses in Harry Potter, which is taboo and is a one-way trip to jail.
@@Jedisage909 ATLA isn't Harry Potter. Bloodbending is not beholden by the rules of a completely different story with different workdbuilding
@@bkwrmExactly, this is what I've been saying for years. The ability is no more deadly than using fire bending to roast someone alive. Besides, blood bending can be used for good. Katara is an example of that. People are so hypocritical judging blood bending when even Earth bending can be used to sink entire cities and kill millions, lmao.
