- Polling for all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu for the first of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections began at 7 am on Friday. The result of the high-stakes triangular battle between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) will be declared on June 4.
Key candidates to watch out for in Tamil Nadu are the state BJP president K Annamalai, contesting from Coimbatore against DMK leader Ganapathy P Rajkumar and AIADMK’s Singai Ramachandran. In the Chennai South Lok Sabha seat, BJP’s Tamilisai Soundararajan will be facing DMK’s Thamizhachi Thangapandian and AIADMK’s J Jayavardhan.
While BJP’s state president Annamalai exuded confidence and said that the people of Tamil Nadu will give a resounding mandate to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, opposition leaders including DMK’s Udhayanidhi Stalin and Congress’ Karti Chidambaram said that the INDIA bloc would win all the 39 seats.

Iam from Coimbatore. The turn out is normal . Not very significant to indicate any major shift that BJP expected . But vote share for NDA will increase to double digit and a close fight in 3-4 constituencies including Coimbatore which already had fixed 30% vote share for BJP earlier. . BJP taking away AIADMK vote will infact help DMK to secure most of the seats. .
NTK is attracting the young vote and will increase the vote share .
No money was distributed by BJP that's a good thing to welcome. .
Annamalai is a good candidate for MP and cabinet minister if he wins . !
Unless voting % is 80plus no big change is expected in favour of NDA . May be it has to wait for 2026
My perspective is, though ADMK will not win, it will be a comeback for them.
The biggest advantage is ADMK is not in alliance with BJP.

It means that the regional parties are considering them first minorties not tamizhars. These are contradictory positions and will come out in open eventually. From word of mouth i hear , many regular AIADMK voters are shifting to BJP for the first time , but not many from DMK . Why so ??

Very sad to hear the voter turnout in TN. If people in democracy give this kind of importance to voting it is very unfortunate. Very upset that people continue to be so indifferent and irresponsible. You presume that non-voting electors are all supporters of BJP. It's the other way around. BJP is on an upsurge. It's supporters are enthusiastic and vociferous.
