@@ethans6756 buying raw saw mill lumber is more cost effective these days. Well in my area of east Tennessee anyway I can't say it's the same everywhere. Big t reclaimed barn lumber is a multi million dollar thing right now. All the hipster craft crap has made old barn lumber go through the roof, especially if it's had the nails removed already that really makes it more expensive.

Flair you need to add more fluff and hay in the chicken pen and give some hay for the quail and other birds. During winter I add 3 to 4 inches of hay on the floor of my chicken pen. I also installed a small wall heater with a thermostat to heat the pen as well, just make sure to cover the top of it to keep poop and other stuff from getting in it and causing a fire. I believe it was only 30$ for the heater stuff.

  • @drutsmith

Try using plant heaters and water bed heaters. Good for ambient temperature control in small inclosed areas like the chicken coup. Use a beer brewing thermostat to control it. Can even be solar powered. Solar powered heater for water buckets. Burying water lines can help from the freeze.

Rebuild and paint that animal trailer. Sand blast and paint it. Maybe even “Beefcake Farm&Livestock” logo on the side, Something though. My mechanic senses are tingling every time I see that beat up trailer. Plus it would be a good series of rebuilding it. LED lights, and chicken markers down the sides would make that trailer look good, with a fresh coat of white or red paint. And some polished aluminum Diamond plate paneling on the sides.

Flair at the new house when you set up the pens. Get an actual heated drinking font for the big animals. It will make you’re life a ton easier. I live on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. We have a few of them. You trench a waterline and electric to the font and all you gotta do to prepare for winter is flip the breaker when it gets cold out it works all summer. It costs more to do but once it’s set up it’s a big part of chores that you don’t have to worry about. Especially when it’s cold and no one wants to be out there.
