In this episode of RIFFS OF DOOM I'm playing through the entire rhythm section and first two lead breaks from Into The Void by Black Sabbath.
To get that classic Sabbath tone I'm using a P-90 qquipped Epiphone 50th Anniversary 1961 Gibson SG Reissue, which I'm running through a Fuzzlord Effects Riff Master OC44, into a 1960 Laney LBO-60 Supergroup amp.
The song is played in the key of C# Minor and it’s riffs utilize elements from the C# Natural Minor Scale {R, M2, b3, p4, p5, b6, b7} Blues Scale {R, b3, p4, b5, p5, b7}. For the solo section uses the C# Minor Pentatonic Scale {R, b3, p4, p5, b7}.

I remembering hearing the intro for the first time and I'm like like "this is pretty damn heavy". Then the main riff kicks in and I went like 😱.

This riff is seriously lightyears beyond it's time, it's pure sludge, I cannot believe it is 50 + years old.

I'd consider plenty of songs from self titled & Paranoid (Black Sabbath, NIB, War Pigs, Hand of Doom etc.) to be stoner and/or doom metal. Master of Reality was the first one with C# tuning, but tuning below E isn't always necessary to make a song stoner or doom metal.

Really good sound, really great job!! 👍 I find it amazing that the Musician with two prosthetic fingertips. Has the best “Vibrato” and “Boomer Bends” that just cannot be replicated! Your good, but no one has Tony’s Vibrato nor Boomer Bends. (The guy can’t even feel the strings on his flesh, amazing)

I was lead to believe he tuned C# on a set of .009- .042" strings? He ran very slack but managed to keep it in tune.
And this guitar tone always struck me as a boosted gain into 12ax7s. Honestly just curious.

Hey Steve, I was wondering if you could do a demo on the Laney LA30BL? It’s supposed to be a lower watt modern version of the Supergroup, maybe you could compare it to the old school Laney LBO 60 and see how it holds up to giving that classic Sabbath tone along with using the Riff Master boost (as I’m sure there are lots of people who seek tht early Sabbath tone but can’t get ahold of an old school Supergroup). Anyways great vid!!! Keep on dooming 🤟😎

Love these videos. How often to you get hit with copyright claims? Just curious, because Rick Beato just did a video on getting nailed with copyright claims for instructional videos.
I end up with a copyright claim / revenue sharing from time to time. This video for example is sharing. The ad revenue here on RUclips for a channel like mine is so small that it’s really of little concern tbh. I don’t let it influence the content I make.

hey men what cab are you used in the video??
It’s recorded direct with the amp running into a torpedo captor reactive load box for silent recording using the built in cab IR. Link up in the video description for more info. I use that thing for a ton of recording at this point.

You mean in a different position? I do all of my lessons and tabs as the band plays the song. I’m not sure you can even play the intro riff in standard tuning and have it sound correct.
