But, I also know my neighbors. You get one life. May as well put it to something noble. I feel like this country will see a major uprising and it will be our duty to protect our local areas. Recently when a local thug demanded £600. with the threat of vandalising my vehicle, and did countless other nasty things, the police simply shrugged their shoulders. 2. Since the burglar was unarmed this was not even a serious crime
      3. We should concentrate on people who actually hurt other people not property crime
      4. The solution should be educational not punitive - Maybe he didn't know any better
      5. This man needs a job not a prison cell, he should be given a chance

well we live in political world, no evidence = not guilty. What if home owner wanted revenge, found him and dragged him there and made up the situation? You never know ... people do crazy things. Lot of girls do this, they hit themselves and point a finger at some guy. This is why word against word is not considered as evidence and this is why having 100 friends to say same thing, is also no evidence, cuz it's just words. You'd need more solid proof.
For example he did break in at first, but was somehow released in less than 2 months ... so if i was home owner, I'd be mad too and want revenge. So it's very possible that home owner and his friends staged the 2nd break in just to get back at him. You could easily find the person, hand him untraceable and unloaded gun and tell him that if he doesn't try to break in and point a gun at you, then you'll shoot his balls off. What would you do? lose your balls or go along? Not like he has much choice.
I'm not saying a thief doesn't deserve it, but I'm just saying why cases like that are often dropped.
I just think punishment for stealing should be far more severe, thieves LAUGH at justice system. Imagine how many homes he has already broken into before he was caught? Crime DOES pay. You can go thru like 10 houses and get over 10000 worth of stuff, even if you're caught, you barely do 1 month in prison .. maybe even not that if it's first time. You come out with 10k or more .. totally worth it.

The home owner and the point they were vets makes it even better! I'm sure when the police got there, they had to be laughing inside. I know I would have. All seriousness, they may have saved his life, had he also had a gun.
Bless that neighbor! That's a bond they'll forever have! Nice end result! Kudos to you both! 👏
