This video makes very valid points some people may not want to hear the wisdom. Side by Sides are toys that are expensive the base models are more appealing those accessories add up fast. Some people buy from a dealer on time because they have a steady income with good credit but do not have the cash to afford a newer side by side or used side by side. Realistically if you buy a side by side from the dealership the price is going to be half to 3/4 what your newer personal vehicle cost. You drive your personal vehicle daily for work it has to be reliable. You should drive the side by side once a week or month to justify the cost. If you do not live near the trails do you own a pickup truck with a trailer to haul the side by side to the trails. A new ranger xp 1000 at my dealership is 17k with the polaris bonus can get that down to 14k but if i had them add windshield, roof, rear windshield, and side soft upper doors, plus a wench that would be around 24k with my signature and me loading it on a trailer to haul it home. I can afford the purchase either cash or with payments. Just because I can doesn't mean I'm going to buy a side by side. The use cases for me do justify owning one because I live and work on a 1,000 acre farm. So instead of using a 10 year old ATV or my pickup truck for work I could use the new side by side. I could justify the purchase price of the new Side by Side. It would be used daily for various task there are a dozen things I could do with it each day. When you are buying toys that cost as much as my personal vehicle you have to step back and say wait a minute is this really necessary. Facebook Marketplace has much more appealing prices.

i use my sxs every single day to go up to my community mail boxes and in winter i put on the tracks to head out on my lake to ice fish.i have 6 boats and use them all,and i have a travel trailer that i use several times a year.i was 52 when i retired so i got all the toys and paid cash to enjoy retirement.everyone around here has a sxs or an atv.we get ungodly amounts of snow.i'd rather plow than push around a snowblower when it's -25c.

We actually just sold our polaris turbo xp4. Too gnarly for our family of 5. I had a bump seat in the back for our 4 year old but the angle of the harness was pushing his helmet off. After a 1 hr ride was was crying. Just too extreme for us. Sticking with slower speed trails with our trusty 95 jeep cherokee.

Ok soooo i bought one 3years ago in california were is not street legal, i was paying 500 a month plus insurance i was about 600 a month just to have it, i add 7k on parts to upgrade the first year, after that i started lagging to take out bc the only area near by to use it was 3hr away everytime i wanted to drive it, and 3hr back home, first year it was all good and fun then it started to get expensive gas parts and time not being able to use it more often, seven months later of just sitting in my garage and still paying for it, i sold it stock price with new parts just to get rid of it, that was my experience, but they are fun if your taking advantage of it street legal or close place to actually use it trails or dunes.

Bought a new '23 Yamaha Wolverine X4 850 XT-R in July. Pushing 70, we traded in our 2-up atv and trailer instead of quitting. No regrets and Wisconsin has lots of trails. All your points are valid, but rentals are pushing 500 a day. Happy trails to all. Be Safe or stay home.

I wish most of these folks would not buy side x sides. Lots of fomo. They see their neighbor or friend that had one and they think we gotta get one too. Unfortunately this attitude has driven up the price of machines and made riding less desirable. Sometimes the trails are as busy as Costco on a Saturday......... lots of people who bought them are going to lose them to the banks in the near future.

I bought a used 2019 xp4 turbo last year. We didn't like it, felt too dangerous so we just sold it. Lost our @$$ but that was expected. Yes, ocotillo can feel very crowded and that was part of my concern especially on big weekends with weed/booze everywhere.
2 kids (RIP) on a quad were run over last season by a SxS and that helped seal the deal for me. Sticking to my slower safer 95 jeep cherokee.

You nailed it, I want a sxs and have never owned one. I have researched buying but never even drove one. I have a boat and use it year round due to living in Florida. I pay marina high and dry, insurance maintenance etc. luckily I don’t have a payment on the boat but still runs $500-600 a month with costs. I am going to research rentals because I want to ride around Moab , Glamus, Durum Ga, Hatfield/McCoy. I was looking at toy haulers and budgeting about $150,000. For sxs and trailer and already have the truck to tow.

I love the side by side ride but I honestly don't like the trailer and hauling cost. No one talks about that. New garages don't fit full size trucks even less a trailer with a car. I ride a jeep for that reason. They pass me on the trails and that is okay too.

If I ever get it, it’s been on order for several months, I hope to use it often. I’m retired, I’ve ridden/raced dirt bikes and street bikes most of my life. I have this big playground right out my back door. So bankruptcy here I come! 😂😂😂.

As for me I bought a sxs in 2012 a Polaris ranger 800 for the farm it's gets used every day summer and winter. Been a very good machine but we keep it very well maintained. What they want for the new ones I couldn't replace what I'm running now for sure.

Im personally an ATV rider as thats what I prefer , I have a 19ft toy hauler I modified a bit to get where I want to go and have my fun. But like these gentlemen say

Thats why I just bought an old Rhino. I figure I'll have $3-4000 in with initial repairs ans the accessories I'll inevitably install because I can never leave well enough alone. But I did so for a reason, and my wife already wants to kill me over that much.
I've wanted a sxs for years. Since they came out really but just can't justify the purchase. Especially if I don't end up using it. But I do have a bit of land, about 3 acres. I run down the road to the neighbors house and back which is a couple miles in the summer. We also have a few parks nearby, one 20 minutes and 3 more within a couple hours.
So i bought the cheapest sxs I could find. I figure if I use it enough I'll upgrade. But if I dont I'll get most of my money back. I turn my own wrenches so maintenance is nothing. But that way I wont end up 20-30k in the hole over something that just sits.

Here is my situation: I live on a farm in central MN. I need a machine that I can plow snow with it, but otherwise, not a lot of other farm chores. I would probably use it for cruising gravel roads and a few trails nearby. I was looking at the Yamaha RMAX and the Honda Pioneer 1000. Now I am wondering if the Talon would be a better machine for me. They are street legal on the county and township roads in my area. I want a quiet machine, but I can't afford a Brawley. Suggestions? Thanks!

Im thinking of moving to an area close to the sand dunes. I have been riding dirt bikes on all types of terrain for around 20 years. While visiting this area that Im considering moving to, I noticed many side by sides out on the dunes. I know i can have fun just sticking to the dirt bike out there but I am very interested in adding a new toy (side by side) to my activitie hobby list. For now, I'm just taking it a step at a time. If i do end up moving to a place near the sand dunes, i will most likely stick to the dirt bike for awhile and meet people who already own side by sides and get to know the cultural. Ill possibly try a rental for a day and see if i actually enjoy it. Im looking at the yamaha yxz1000r. It seems like a great choice for the sand dunes. Does anyone have any experience on the yxz1000r or have any suggestions on other good side by sides for the sand dunes? Thank you.

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  4 месяца назад

The Yxz is a fun machine, but I wouldn’t own one personally. In my opinion it’s a one trick pony and is really only good for the sand dunes. Even as that they are a bit under powered. If I was going to buy a sxs I’d get something that is useful in many different terrains. If you’re wanting a sxs just for dunes I’d be looking at a turbo machine like the Can Am X3 or you can go with the Polaris pro R machines which make big power without a turbo depending on which model you go with. Got an all around great machine for trails and some sand the Kawasaki KRX is hard to beat

I wanted a sxs but refused to have a payment. Took a few years and all though part of me wanted a new rzr or CANAM I bought a used teryx4. If I use it enough then maybe I’ll justify cost of trading it in and buying new but for now I’ll enjoy no loan payment.

I have a Teryx4. My advice would be to save your money, enjoy no loan payments and ride that Teryx for a long time! It’s extremely reliable and will be a good machine for quite some time!

Actually had 4wheelers up 4sale in hopes of buying a sxs and talked myself out of it, for a few reasons. Number 1 is 4wheelers are my escape to get away from civilization and people, do some backwoods camping , turn cellphone off for a couple days And relax. Worse comes to worse it breaks down you hike out leaving a couple thousand dollars worth of 4wheeler behind . Not as simple with a sxs and then you have recovery, finding someone to pull it out of the woods. Sxs are just better as a group and not right for my adventures.

Why buy a house when you can just rent for basically The same cost.... Great advice 🤣
If only rental machines were always perfect, And you never had your day/week ruined by a bad rental, which you are now on the hook to fix, Even though you didn't break it, but good luck proving that.... 🤷

Lots of people throw a snow plow on their sxs in the winter. Then it becomes a useful tool during those months that you can't ride trails. Just providing things to think about for people. For the record these type of videos have been a huge part of our channel. We're not here to only do ride videos, but to also provide information and different points of view.

I agree, but it’s a small percent of people who use their rigs a full 12 months all the time because of different climates. Because you don’t use it a full 12 months doesn’t mean you shouldn’t own a sxs. Your videos are awesome, I just don’t think the financial suggestions are great material everything else you guys do is great work.

So it's bad advice to suggest that people consider all aspects of their purchase and maybe not buy something they won't actually use? I never said if you can't use it all 12 months you shouldn't use it. The point is to decide if you really need one and if it makes sense to own it.

I’m trying to understand the segment that you posted I’ve enjoyed your videos actually I thoroughly enjoyed all your videos but this one…… geez I think you should delete the video
