- One of the main questions that expats and travelers who come here ask is: What is the cost of living in Medellín Colombia? Because sincerely, it is one of the top 3 things that most people coming from the States LOVE about living here.
However, prices definitely have changed a lot since the pandemic so I wanted to make sure I posted this video so you guys have updated information! I understand that it's a bit longer (lol 🙈) but that's because I broke this up into three different budget lifestyles:
1. The Bootstrap Backpacker Lifestyle
2. The Modern Yet Moderate Lifestyle
3. The Live-It-Up Luxurious Lifestyle
With all three, I explain more or less what you could budget for accommodations, utilities, phone, internet, transportation, entertainment, and all other. And trust me, after watching, you're probably going to be a bit surprised. 😏 If you have any other questions, please drop them in the comments or you can email. meat laurenlagringalatina@gmail.com. I also take 30 and 60 minute consultations for anybody needing assistance with traversing the various obstacles stemming from the language and cultural barriers here.
If you are transferring your dollars to pesos for yourself, DO NOT USE REMITLY. I repeat, do not use Remitly! In their terms, it is not allowed to send money to yourself which I think is ridiculous. It happened to me that I got locked out of my account and lost hundreds of dollars in "transit". Instead, you need to use WORLD REMIT (where it is 100% allowed to send to yourself) and here is my code to get $20 just for transferring your first amount over $100. 👉🏼 www.worldremit... I have used World Remit for years and the transfer happens in a matter of SECONDS! 🙌🏼

Thank you for the video. This is a certainly a more thoughtful presentation of the cost of living in Medellin than I've seen on other platforms.
La gringa más querida de latinoamerica eres la mejor 👍
I totally agree! She really is one of us. 🙌👏👍
Awesome video! I live in a small town in Antioquia, close to Medellin, in a 3-bedroom apartment unfurnished as a single male, I have 100 Meg Internet service. I prepare most of my meals and I have a cleaning lady who comes in once a week and I live very comfortably for $430 USD a month.
Great breakdown! Thanks for the info.
I looooved this video, you are so clear, honest and have a beautiful way to explain things. I guess I watched this video out of curiosity. I was like oh I can see here how much could cost something but then I was like ok, she is American so probably her budget is gonna look weird and not realistic but I am happily surprised. You really did a good jobs and even took the job to put 3 kinds of budget. I hope you get to stay in Colombia as long as you want and hopefully forever; not to be shady to certain American RUclipsr lol
Ok, perhaps the luxurious budget I think some categories like utilities were actually underestimated. In Medellin I was living in estrato 5 in a two bedroom apartment and the costs could go easily to 300 usd but can go higher, the main expense in my case would be the “administracion” which is a fee that most apartments pay and is not always included in the rent and because it was a quite modern and fancy building it was 120 usd and the water and electricity were also expensive because the tax, even if you use nothing the sum
Is big. Plus internet and tv with a good connection and plan was also expensive.
It's interesting listening to a foreign person talking about my country.
Very much needed video. Thinking about spending 2-3 months in MDE. Muchas gracias, amiga!!
Awesome!! So glad that I could help ☺️🙏🏻 What other types of videos or knowledge do you think could help you the most?
@@LaGringaLatina i don’t really have anything specific, but maybe show us more “day in the life” videos of your life in MDE or take us on tours of Medellin or nightlife/restaurant spots you like? Qué tengas un buen día! 🙏🏾
The live it up is a bit stretched - I would say your numbers provided would be in line for a family of 4.
Here Is My Monthly Budget: $3600/Month.
Housing - Stata 6 4 BR Apartment (Pool/Doorman/Sauna/Gym) - $750 - $1500(3br unfurnished to furnished)
Food - $500 for the family groceries
Eating Out & Entertainment - 2x a week - high end $800, moderate $400
Live In Nanny - $650
Daily House Keeping & Cook( Live Out ) - $500
Utilities/ Phones/internet -$200
Healthcare Family Plan - $300/month (but totally can self pay on this budget)
Like the information. Thanks.
gracias gringuita por todas tus hermosas palabras por amar tanto a medellin y mucho mas que los paisas thanks for your good video, cuando quieras visitar envigado por aqui te esperamos con los brazos abiertos gracias por todo su amor
El Poblado 🇨🇴 in the house✅
EPAAA jajaajaja
Great video... I really appreciate the information. Could you tell me is extra if you have a pet, more over a dog. Thanks
This is great information. I've been thinking of moving from the US.
Wow so cool love the breakdown!!! All I need is awesome internet and a vpn
Thanks for breaking this down so thoroughly. I am planning to start a business in and possibly move to Medellin, so this really helps. If all goes well, I will contact you for your VA services.
" I will contact you for your VA services." ... did I miss something?????????????????????
Ok, as a colombiano
I can assure you that wealthy Colombianos budget are way higher than what you are estimating, high end professionals make over 15, 000 USD a month and owners of companys, exporters, importers and investors make millions of dollars a year!!
My self, I have an (US middle class standards of living) in Colombia and my wife and I we have a budget of 2,000 USD a month
(per person)
And this doesn't including my and hers mazda 6 SUV insurance, car and license plate payment, and a yearly trips to Miami, or other Latinamerican countries!
Fo someone with a budget of less than 2,000 USD a month, to leave behind his culture, language, friends, family, a 1st world class infrastructure, health care and safety and moved to a 3rd world country it will be absurd ! 🤦♂️
Great informative video. Thanks. Peace!
This is all very helpful. Am I to understand you do not have to buy health insurance first if you intend on becoming an expat in Colombia? I read online in order to get a pensionada visa you must get health insurance first. Is this the case or was that a scam by someone who wants you to buy their insurance?
Exchange rate is 4850 COP to USD now, I'm guessing prices there have risen sharply as well?
Wow I didn’t know I was rich in Colombia. Gonna plan a vacation to begin with
I've just arrived in Medellin and I've actually been shocked how expensive the rental market is here. At least for someone who's just arrived and wants to rent for a month or two in a central area like Laureles, and wants a decent furnished studio, I'm seeing prices in the range of $1500-2000 for month which is 3-4x what I was paying to live in a central neighborhood in Saigon. So far Colombia does not really strike me as being particularly cheap for expats unless you're comparing it to somewhere like LA or NYC. Perhaps I've just been spoied by living in Southeast Asia for so long.
You are very slow gringo, you are a novice, you are talking about Medellin not all of Colombia, all digital nomads and expatriates have them in a bubble in their apartments in Laureles and El Poblado, you never thought of leaving Antioquia, why did not you look in Cali or Bucaramanga, come on a little common sense.
Exactly this girl probably lives like a backpacker, as a Colombian I can assure that for a US middle class standard of living u need at list 2,000 usd a month per person, which still cheaper than other countries, but less than that u would have live a 3rd world midle class life style!
@@cristianloquesea beg-to-differ...In Barrio Restrepo near Sur America...I have found three-bedroom furnished (nicely furnished) utilities, wifi, washer...the works $600 to $850. Estadio similar.
AND this is using AIRBNB (shudder). I am single, cook a bit at home, my grocery bill runs $10 to $20 week...not a shopper per se, and this bill is frequently lower.
Foreigners made the prices go up.
Hahahha go to Asia 🤷♀️
Wow! Justo necesitaba saber esto...
How much is cover for nightclubs?! And how much is a really nice gym membership without a personal trainer just for lifting weights, and doing cardio? Thanks your video really opened up my mind, to how affordable Medellin is. 😁✌🏻🇺🇸
Hola. Creó qué nos hemos cruzado... También soy de medellin.
Y también te vi en tinder.
I believe that in the BOOTSTRAP option,, $300 for food is TOO MUCH!!!! I have been going to Medellin since 2008.
95% of Colombians spend less than that lol... Probably spends too much time en el Poblado...
Thank you for the explanation, great job. I would love to retire there.
Can you do an update for 2023?
I'm frome puerto rico I'm thinking goin ther vacation
Medellín🇨🇴♥
I have lived in Medellin 8 years so I do have an expert eye when it comes to cost of living. The only issue I see is no one lives the same or spends equally to anyone else so a cost analysis is very difficult to produce. My numbers are lower than yours as I have found it very easy to live well under $1000 with a very comfortable life. But I am much older than you are and value different things.
In my observations a high percentage of visitors from the US and Western countries are male. Actually I have only met just a few single women who are living here. With that in mind, I would be interested to see a comparison between a male and female visitor. Lifestyle, entertainment and interests, particularly with his pursuit of the local women, would change your numbers as I believe women and men live much differently than each other.
Mi gringa favorita. 😇😇
Hoy aprendí "Without further ado" :-)
Lo habia escuchado en una ocasion anterior y quedè 🤔 y ahora confirmè su significado tmbn. ✔
Hahaha ahh me alegra que había aprendido algo por aquí de mi inglés 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Appreciate ur afford. Thx! 😊
I will be needing your help when I come back to colombia from chile 🇨🇱,
March 9, 2022...1kg (17 ounces) of beef spare ribs @ $14,137 COP ($3.78 USD)
But I like training boxing. Do they have??
Thank you.
Gracias por la información! La diferencia entre los precios en Estados Unidos y allá es increíble. No puedo creerlo! Lol
I’m thinking of moving to Medellin with my family. My husband WFH in a digital business and I’m a SAHM. We have two boys, 5 and 1, can you or someone share any thoughts on great primary school in Medellin? I’d like to research that first then I can target a place to live close by. Love your content, thank you!
Other $20/MTH,? Gym alone min $35 up to a lot more.
Sure! Depends on the gym and depends on the lifestyle. Everybody’s different so this is for the general person not you and what exactly you might spend 😉
@@LaGringaLatinaWHat? It either is or isn't. Is it true a gym monthly membership is $35?
Very thoughtful and encompassing, but I got lost at the 'bootstrap backpacker' food budget, for a month. I live in one of the more costly regions of Canada, in terms of grocery costs, and I could get by easily on $300 USD monthly. Was your food budget regarding eating out frequently/regularly?
No, that would be eating/cooking at home mostly.
March 7, 2022...Had two duplicate keys made this morning. Both work. $1.00usd.
2 liter plastic pitcher with lid $1.57usd.
Two pkgs chicken wings 1480kg. $3.53. two tomatoes $0.49, Two onions $0.46, Coffee...400g $2.33, Two packages chocolate...two months supply for me...$3.35, Six potatoes (804kg) $1.91, Total grocery bill $11.17*
* I struggled to get this bill up to +$10.00...had to double up on chocolate and chicken wings to exceed the $10.00.
Renting a three-bedroom, two bath apt, wifi, cable, utilities paid, new washer, hot water, furnished in Barrio Carlos E. Restrepo (three blocks from Sur America Metro) Calle 51-Cr 64...an EXCELLENT neighborhood by any measure.
How much is your rent, if you don’t mind?
600$ is actually a very good amount for us, even if living alone
How? Do you mind breaking down your expenses on $600 when living alone?
Could you explain how you have the ability to live full time there? Do you have a special visa?
Wonderful
Hola . I would like to find a apt or house to rent in Medellin.
What makes you not wanting to stay for good? I thought you were very happy in Medellin...
I am and I absolutely plan to stay here ☺️
@@LaGringaLatina Ah, OK.
I Live in Sabaneta Antioch a Big Hug Lau
I need to do a video of Sabaneta! Saludos 😊
@@LaGringaLatina we are waiting for you very soon
estrato 6 penthouse can be like 200 usd to 300 usd a month in epm lol way off
Oh wow are you serious? Damn ok yeah that’s why I said y’all people who live that lifestyle can chime in lol
Mi no entender😢
Lol your high end luxurious budget can be the price of accommodations/with utilities alone here in Hawaii.
The question is can you live in USA with $4k per month then $1k in South America is ok no the amount of $$$ is you to see that 1k will be ok
$2k a month should be very comfortable then...
Great video, are you merry?
And I guess is it safe. I’ve traveled around.
Un dia vsitaremos medillin💯✔🙏
Waoo, eres hermosa Lauren 💘
Rich from Canada. Retired. Met a woman on line thought of going there. I get only $2500 a month pension. Sounds like it would be ok.
You will live like a King
You were perfect until Food lol, for $300 you can eat out every day. Breakfast is $1 and lunch less than $3. that's 4, and you still have 6 dollars for dinner. Food expence in Medellin if you cook at home is not more than $100
Lauren eres hermosa, saludos y éxitos.
Subtitles please
Lol i find it weird in this new age people feel they HAVE to live it up even if you can afford it. Theres nothing wrong with being moderate. Even when you do get there! Lol
I am from Pakistan ada I'm working soda afrikaring Please can you help me out
You can easily live off $1k, but I personally would not.
Un saludo muy especial ti preciosa 😙😙😍
Hola güera saludos desde USA

There are two many RUclipsrs saying the same thing about Colombia, its getting bordersom.
👍 👍
I move down there and you are invited to some guaros with my fam.
medico tengo que pagar medico es como 200mil mensual
Que título tan estupido, hay familias de 4 que viven con un sueldo mínimo en Colombia (250usd). Obvio se puede vivir con 1000usd
🙌 🌹 I ❤️ you.
Are utilities per person like if my girlfriend lived with me I would double your figure?
🌟Le Di Like Comente Me Suscribi Dame Un Corazoncito...💞 😍
Que viva la gringa de Medellin
una persona sola con 1.500 es dificil
My gf
330 a month on lux entertainment lmao my buddies spend that one night at the isla your so offfff a guy with constant stream of high end girls can spend like 3k a month on entertainment
Sure but that lifestyle isn’t the norm but maybe the exception
Hola, ¿pueden cooperar para promover videos comerciales? Le daré una generosa tarifa de producción. Por favor contáctame gracias.
i matched with you on tinder whats up girl
Hahahah i have no idea who you are I’m not sure active on there 🙈🙈🙈🙈
You will use world remit until you find out about charles Schwab
As a remittance service?
@@LaGringaLatina hmm..no... put it this way. You don't need a colombian bank. With this bank you don't get any ATM fees because they are ALL reimbursed at the end of the month. They also give you a great exchange rate. Free checking account with interest. No transacción fees at all. They can do this because They save so much money by not having many branches.
It is THE the bank for digital nomads .
And if you loose your debit card They can send you a new one to virtually any country
@@LaGringaLatina sorry I meant no purchase fees...if you want to do transfers that is something different
@@AscendedWarriors gotcha. I am not a digital nomad and I have my entire life, phone, bank, credit card, doctor, everything in Medellin. I just get paid in dollars so I need a remittance service more than a card that helps with foreign purchase.
@@LaGringaLatina Hi Lauren, some of the US RUclipsrs In Mexico that I follow talk about Charles Schwab. I think the idea is to have your dollars direct deposited into your Charles Schwab account and then you can use ATM's to pull cash. They charge no ATM fee and refund the other bank's ATM fees.
Estas bizcocha!
no es posible vivir en cali con eso no
Depende.
Speak Spanish or portuguese please👍is better for us Latinos, your Spanish is more beautiful than your English too
This video was for English speaking expats to figure out if they can live there.
Gracias por la información, debes trabajar más en tu forma de hablar para transmitir más profesionalismo e interés
The luxury condo is what I seek in Medellin. I am interested in 2 month rental. Lets chat
