Since you don't know her it would help for you to know that Hwasa has been continuously told by critics that she is too heavy, too dark complected, and not pretty enough to make it as an idol....hence her doing this song

Hwasa is the maknae of 4 member gg Mamamoo. Tho you've reacted to a bunch of Onewe songs you somehow missed Q, which features Hwasa. Mamamoo are the big sisters of Onewe at RBW Entertainment and they were the first group to debut under RBW when it was a new startup agency back in 2014. Moomoos (Mamamoo fans) first saw Onewe when they were called MAS and were the backup band on a rock version of Mamamoo's hit Decalcomanie on a year end show in 2016 before MAS signed with RBW. Onewe were also the band for a rock version of another MMM hit at an award show in 2019 and they backed up Hwasa on a live Queen medley on a tv show. Onewe has done terrific covers of Hwasa's song Twit and several Mamamoo songs.
Fyi Hwasa's body is not considered ideal by kpop standards and when she tried to audition for kpop agencies she was sent packing and told she was fat and ugly. Fortunately RBW's co-CEO had the novel idea of assembling a girl group based on their vocal talent, performance skills, and creativity and promoting them as artists rather than teen idols. He plucked the members of Mamamoo from the pile of audition rejects and retreads from other companies and despite the odds against them Mamamoo went on to be very successful as a group and as solo artists. Mamamoo are known as the vocal queens of kpop and are universally respected in Korea by people of all ages, not just young kpop fans, however ever since Mamamoo's debut Hwasa has been targeted by haters for her looks and fashion choices and some idiots even started a petition to get her kicked out of Mamamoo when they debuted. Hwasa has written several very personal songs about internet bullying and malicious sm comments including her 2020 hit Maria (the name she took when she was baptized as a Catholic) and the gorgeous ballad LMM (Lost My Mind) and she also co-wrote Mamamoo's biggest hit Hip in which they mock their haters as people who spit in their own faces while redefining Hip to mean being true to yourself and doing your own thing rather than the usual slang meaning of cool or trendy.
As you mentioned, I Love My Body shows flashes of Hwasa's vocal talent but it's mostly a fun song about body positivity. Fortunately there's so much more to explore if you want to hear more of her music. She's known for her sultry jazz & r&b style and she used to be called The Fatal Maknae because she makes everything she sings sound sexy, even children's songs lol. These days they just call her Queen Hwasa, a title she humbly says she has a long way to go to live up to, tho you might disagree after watching her charismatic, fierce and commanding stage presence in live performances. I highly recommend checking out her solo songs Maria, LMM, Twit and her collab with rapper Loco and producer Woogie on their massive hit Don't, which was easily the sexiest collab of 2018 and probably just about any other year. And of course you should check her out with her group. Mamamoo has an extensive and extremely diverse discography but they're best live and there are hundreds of hours of terrific live performances available as a group, solo and subunit. Mamamoo is one of the most fascinating and talented groups to come out of Korea and they're one of the biggest rabbit holes in kpop. 😂
Hwasa has one of the most beautiful and unique voice I've ever heard. She is an amazing artist involved in every single aspect of her work, from songwriting to composing, from concept to styling, her mind is so beautiful and her whole discography is the demonstration of it. Unfortunately she's battling against Korean beauty standards and 'rules' since childhood. She's such a free spirit and has an open mind that doesn't fit Korean restricted mentality. Her hot curvaceous body, her natural sexiness and her commanding stage presence are something apparently hard to accept there since people were firming petitions to kick her out of the group as soon as she debuted.
Last sh*t she went through was a report to the police and being questioned for more than 3 hours for a performance at a university festival...that's why there is a police car at the end of the video. Apparently parents of University students think their sons are still 3 years old and can be shocked by 2 seconds gesture of Hwasa when male idols at those festivals are half naked and mimic intercourse on stage.
Hwasa is the Mamamoo's maknae. Each members of Mamamoo have their own style of music, their own sense of style, great vocalist, dancers, rappers, comedians, stage presence and as a group they're competing with each other especially their vocal harmonizing... Mamamoo also known for their message about loving yourself, dissing the haters in their lyrics. They're so comfortable with being totally different from the norms and always giving us MooMoo (fandom) something new that we can't get from other idols. Moonbyul with her androgynous style and the way she dance. Solar with her takes on unibrow, bald head, half-half looks portrayed in their MV. Wheein's talked about same gender in relationship in her song. Hwasa's statement about beauty standards in Korea and unapologetically tells she's make her own beauty standard, dissing haters about how she dressed herself, loving herself in her lyrics and also about her depression/mental health issues. Overall, Mamamoo's journey from how they first started until who they are today is actually inspiring and they did it just by the talent that they have, and they're also from a small and a new agency (the agency first and only girl group).

Really recommend watching their Immortal Songs Medley (it's a concert video, but with great quality). Their voices are really different from each other and yet compliment one another really well.

I get that she does look fucking fantastic, but she's faced a lot of critic for the way she dresses, performs and just IS (thicker thighs, darker skin tone - different from korea's "standard" for beauty - and her attitude in general). What is seen as strong and beautiful to us has been extremely shamed by media and knets... this song was also released after she was summoned by the police to give her a statement after parents attempted to prosecute her for acting too sexy in a college festival. Yes, you read it right, A COLLEGE FESTIVAL. Girl recieved this song while she was dealing with this and it just really spoke to her.
I totally agree with your comment about the dancers, and it was something that the fans noticed as well.... which is weird since her, and the group she's a part of, has always had a more diverse crew...

1:40 this song is not typically her style but she took this song because during the time she was offered this song there was controversy where she was sued by the parents of students of a university where she performed with her group mamamoo because THE PARENTS OF ADULTS in uni said it was too 'vulgur' or something and a lot of problems were going on And thats why she chose to do this song.

All that said, I love Hwasa, and Mammamoo. This song came about because she gets a lot of hate for her body because she doesn't fit the K beauty standard. Super similar to the reason and message being XL.

Hwasa was and still is always attacked by kpop "fans" for all of her features and even her clothing choice so this song is really her saying fck you to the haters.
beilieve or not she is constantly bodyshame because in korea beauty standarts she is consider fat and ugly (yes, unbelieveble) so being sooo young she had to get a lot of shame comment not only on social media but in tv shows and interviews and she stand up for people and herself saying: "if I'm not the korean beauty standart I'm gonna create a new one" So that's why she is a queen.
