    What a great leader!
    I am nothing, but I will encourage such initiative programs that were already been set.
    Bless him!

    I like the idea of saving one island for Kiribati. I am ashamed at the world for doing less at this time. I believe in another strategy and that is to purchase raw land in another country that would grant citizenship. Please continue to ask for help and educate your youth.

    President... All I can help together with my family is not to add more emissions and trash so at least we can reduce our contribution on climate change.. Its really a heartbreaking reality that your beloved country is being consumed by the big sea.

    beautiful island in the pacific.. but sad to say now it is affected by rising sea levels due to climate change or global warming... small island nation like Kiribati is facing this hard times.. this is an open eye for all people in the world today to really take care of our environment. the earth becomes warmer and warmer typhoons are so intense, very strong, devastating... we should act now. preserve and protect our mother EARTH, to save our planet.

    there's a danger in attributing almost every single livelihood issue in Kiribati to CC. CC may be contributing but by how much? Living in the atolls has never been easy and with a growing population, land shortage, and ever increasing dependency on a monetised economy, subsistence living is rapidly disappearing and people are increasingly living in hardship. It is heartening to hear at the end of the cllip that no matter what happens, Kiribati will always be there ...that to me sounds more convincing, optimistic and positive than most part of the clip.

    The statement..."Tom still wants to develop the Island." Was interesting. Perhaps, that is part of the problem (?) I didn't know they were his Islands to develop. Its one thing to offer assistance and when applicable, knowledge. But in the end. Kiribati is its own country. It has to make its own decisions and take the iniative and responsibility for itself. That is the price of independance! It doesn't mean other countries...Especially those in the region won't help.. But as stated the country belongs to the I-kiribati people! They are the ones who must govern it! If you have your own country and sovereign independance. Who else is supposed to govern!?

Thorsten

      Was koennten die Politiker in Deutschland machen?

    Can someone explain the proper way of building seawalls? This is a dangerous way of building seawalls. It creates the damaging force of the incoming waves underneath the bottom of the built stones or walls and therefore sucking sand from underneath. Maybe I need to come back home and conduct workshops to the community. I just don't have finance.

    You know what pisses me off is that big government’s from the west would rather supply billions of dollars into wars and won’t even send a tenth of what they put into wars across the globe and here in a extremely small country that needs help.

    They must plants lots of big trees. Trees prevent floods, landslides.
    Far reaching roots hold soil in place and fight erosion, NULS-Cifor said, adding that trees absorb and store rainwater, which reduce runoff and sediment deposit after storms. ... The trees' roots suck water deep from under the ground to as low as 200 feet.

    • @island_boy7118
      @island_boy7118 3 года назад

      How can the people plant trees if the water has become more and more salty? The islands are only 2.5 to 3 metres above sea level and I think that's not the solution, the islands are sinking little by little therefore affecting its freshwater resources.
      Developed countries should reduce and stop releasing greenhouse gases as soon as possible to buy them time to evacuate as the president's mentioned.

    May I tell the truth. 10,000 years ago sea level was much lower than it is today, while nobody knows the exact level but we are all sure the world has it's last ice age forty thousand years ago. The sea level begin rising up year by year until Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines and most of the Pacific islands separated from main land Eurasia just like today. So I'll tell that many of these shoals will be disappeared within this century inevitably. It's the GOK (God only known) matters.

      @@aphoriste5067 I never said it was those Native's faults. If all humans drove electric cars and grew their own food plants and didn't eat animal food then yes we could balance out the eco system and atmosphere even with more humans but even then at some point there comes a limit to population growth.
