This is what I love about the USA.... People are SO proud to see veterans in uniforms. Shamefully that just doesn't happen here in the UK. We are obviously very proud of our soldiers but never see them on the streets in full uniform.
drnh4444 but then we think of situations such as the Lee Rigby murder and wonder why so many people are scared to walk the streets and be proud of their uniform and what they did for our country, plus I think the government said something around the time after the murder about it being safer if soldiers didn't walk the streets in their uniforms anymore. The intense sense of relief from family when their children come home from these wars, battles, and conflicts we keep having is overwhelming. It must be horrible for them while their family members are away putting their lives at risk. I truly feel for the families whose kids and husbands and wives don't come back. Our politicians make these commitments but it's the human level of sacrifice that is the real cost. Lest we forget.

These are the rewards for doing a damn good job.
My condolences to all of those that didn't or can't make it back. I know it's extremely hard to face that fact. Being a military man myself, that's seen combat, it is hard to come back sane when your friend, or family member in my case, is taken from you over stupid reasons.
There is no reason to end another's life. If you have to: acknowledge they are a person whose lives are gone now. Any life you take, is now yours to take care of.
For me: I don't have a heart for grief. I'll mourn for maybe an hour, then move on. I shove it out of my head so I don't become a hindrance or a bother. Some call this heartless, I call it being further useful. Who wants a blubbering mess in a combat situation? No baggage in a firefight. It's not easy, I know, but it helps keep some semblance of sanity.
Vietnam veterans couldn't even appear in civilian society wearing uniforms or members of the public would yell insults at them. These soldiers here, being greeted like that, have no idea how lucky they are.
