wow, the tunnel! scary but also so cool at the same time :D
It was scary going in but you soon get used to it. Such a contrast to the canals.
What an amazing historical find! 🤩
The potatoes or the seed machine? 🤔
@gooddeedssailing 🤣
We did this journey in 1998 on a Moody 34. Bringing back some great memories. We absolutely love France.
Hi Mike, yes it's amazing just been in the best launderette ever lol. Out of interest how long did it take you in your Moody, great boat by the way, in 1998? We seem to be making slow progress.
@@gooddeedssailing It took us about 3 weeks but we were travelling from the first lock in the morning to the last lock at night.
In those days every lock had a keeper and nearly every one tried to sell you something. Either wine or apple tart, absolutely loved it.
wow, what an experience!!! well done guys 😁
Thanks Nerolina ❤️
Very interesting episode, can't wait for the next one
Thanks Cainman, glad your enjoying our channel. 🙂
Grate interesting video 😅
Thanks Nigel, it's great to get feedback 😀 👍
The tunnel looks amazing. It was fun to watch. So many locks. I’m sure they are getting less and less intimidating. With the fixed bollards the ladder definitely looks like the way to go. I really enjoy seeing the towns and villages as well.
Hi Rod, yes we have a system for the locks now that seems to be working, although still under development lol. The tunnel was a lot less stressful than we thought going in, its always a bit daunting going from warm sunlight into a cold, dark, echoing environment but once you adjust (and most importantly SLOW down) everything gets easier.
Amazing buildings there.. the tunnel looked fun. Lol
Thanks David, it always amazes us too, the effort that went into the detail of these old buildings. The tunnel was a bit nerve racking especially it being two way traffic lol. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👀
Very nice tour of NOYON...looked it up on Google Earth and explored even more.
The 1506 library...wow...what construction. Hope they are maintaining it for CENTURIES to come.
Thanks for your comment, Noyon is a very charming town and we did enjoy the walk around and the history. I'm pretty sure the library is still in use today, amazing really. 🤔
Very nice movie
Thank you, we're so glad you enjoyed it 😊
Wonderful to watch your journey and to see the French towns and wow that tunnel looked daunting but so interesting.
Hi Keith, how's it going? The French towns and villages are lovely. At the moment we're trying to find a small Champagne producer to go and visit, so will be showing a lot more as we go south. Once again thanks for the comment, really helps 👍
Another brilliant and unique video. Thank you for sharing with us land locked folk. Loved this
Not a problem, so glad your enjoying the episodes. We try to keep them as real as possible. It's great to get feedback as this helps us understand what to show. Thanks again.
Hello Karolina and Lee. I have just caught up with your life through RUclips, and am looking forward to your next episode. Take care and watch how you go. All the best, Richard.
Thanks Richard, we are so glad your enjoying our episodes. The weather is getting slightly warmer as we are now heading south. Thanks for your comment and welcome aboard Karolina and Lee.
Really enjoying your videos...thank you
Thanks, we really enjoy reading your comments too. It helps us in many ways 👍
Very well done!
Thanks for the comment it really helps us 🙂
Hi 👋,
Nice videos. Keep doing so. I am following you, and I am inspiring from you as I am a beginner in this world of sailing ⛵️ ❤️
Thanks for the nice comment, they really help. Good luck with your boat, looks just like ours, we are here for any help or advice 👍
Very interesting to see that tunnel! Amazing. Not sure I will be able to manage it through the Canals single-handed when I go. Looking forward to the next one.
The tunnel was easier than we thought, we were a bit apprehensive with it being two ways and our twin keeled sail boat bobbing around amongst all those big propellers. Fortunately we could jump off and just hold the boat in place. So not as bad as we thought. The smaller locks can be done solo, not sure about the big locks though. Glad you enjoyed the episode 🙂
Great video. Enjoy Reims it’s one of our favourite places to visit. Hope you get to sample some of the Champagne. ❤
Thanks Sarah, Reims is a really nice place for a stopover and has plenty of great restaurants. Hopefully we will find a smaller type Champagne producer that we can visit and sample some Champagne as we get into thr more rural districts. Thanks for your comment they really help. 🙂
@@gooddeedssailing our favourite is Jean Millan small family run house.
@sarahcamp5876 merci beaucoup Sarah, we will seek them out. If they're not too far from the canal we will definitely have a visit. Thanks for the recommendation 😀
I really like that you are able to get off the boat at some of the stops, it means we get to see the sights. Thanks for taking us along.🙂
No problem Harvey, got a few more walkabouts coming up and at the moment we are trying to find a small local winery where they make their own Champagne on a smaller scale. Thanks for the feedback it helps us to know what people want to see 👍
You are so right, the French do keep their towns and villages tidy, clean and nicely planted out. Food quality is also excellent isn’t it ? Lucy times always very quiet in the villages. Enjoying your journey, thank you. Phil, Suffolk U.K.🇬🇧
Hi Phil, yes the French villages are lovely and we will be seeing a lot more as we head south, so can't wait for that. We try to go out and get a fresh baguette whenever possible and the food although a little pricier than the UK is really good 😋
@@gooddeedssailing ‘Lucy’ times? Predictive text strikes again…. Shud read lunch! 😆
Phil🇬🇧
Hi Lee and Carolina, in my estimate of time to reach Port St. Louis I didn’t take into consideration when going north we were driving against the current on the Rhône and Saone and only making 3kn over ground.
You will make three times that speed with the flow, so a recalculation needed, sorry to misslead you .Enjoying your story, very much reflecting my experience.
Hi Barry great to know, although we are in no real rush. We're loving France just good to be heading south. Thanks for the comment 👍 Lee and Karolina
Another really interesting video, great shots in the tunnel, those massive barges!! felt your relief getting back into the sunshine!! Looking forward to next one.
Good job.. 👍
Thanks for the comment, they really help. That was the longest tunnel so far and when going through its hard not to increase your speed as you see daylight ahead. But we got through it. There are more tunnels (smaller) but we got some really really good footage as we went through alone. Definitely worth a watch. 👌
Really enjoyed watching this felt like I was sightseeing with you, such beautiful scenery. I'm just as excited to see how relaxed Pj is too he seems to be loving it. Hope not too much damage to the boat xx
Thanks Jo, yes, PJ is really loving it! even a bit too much I would say lol as soon as we stop he wants to go and explore lol
not much space in that tunnel!!! 😱
Lee's not a fan of the tunnels, says it's hard to concentrate 😂
Wow, the locks are certainly a challenge, and sharing the tunnel with those big barges. Enjoy your journey down to Reims.
Thanks Graeme, we have a system for the locks now, which seems to be working. Thanks for the comment. Hope your all good 👍
Another great episode. Well done in that tunnel guys 😮
Thank you 😊
Have a safe trip guys , an amazing adventure
Thanks for the comment Terry. We will, glad your enjoying it too 😀
great video guys love the tunnel and the church is amazing like you say all those bullet holes wow, and your cat so well trained, come back to the boat amazing. where do you think you will be this weekend 18th to the 20th? as I'm in France this weekend, yu might be to far by then lol. other wise keep up the good work guys its amazing. 🙂
Thanks for the comment. We have no idea where we will be this weekend, but we will have an idea later as the week goes. We will let you know once we know. It would be good to meet for sure. 🤞🤞
Enjoying your passage very much.Could you explain the paperwork, permits and costs for using the canal system as you are.Thanks.
Thanks for the comment, the Vignette (licence for the French wsterways) was around €130 but depends on the size of the boat. At the marina we had to present our boats registration on the ships register and the next day went to border control and handed them our passports to be stamped. That's about it, once we printed out our Vignette in the marina office we then entered the canals at Calais.
Many thanks for the info.
Good luck.
@Bbird7101 no problem, we will go into a more detailed itinerary in an upcoming episode regarding what you must have and should have and helpful etc.
You need to have shorter lines for the locks guys x
Thanks for the comment Barry. Shorter lines would work better as you say, but we don't really want to shorten ours if we can handle the locks as they are. 🤞
