What an incredible video. All around the board, just really well thought out and created. I have only played the first Hylics a few years back now. I certainly hadn’t thought about it on such a level back then. But what I have gained now, is an ultimate respect for that first game. I’ve been creating my own game in RPGmaker because of inspirations like Hylics, and despite the engine’s simplicity I have an insane respect for a lot of those RPGmaker games I used to play. I’ve spent a short half year making the game, almost upon a steam release. And looking back at Hylics, it’s style, it’s writing, even it’s mechanics. I’ve grown to respect it all. From the outside it seems so simplistic, but to create something like a videogame to completion is a seemingly endless struggle of bug fixes and feelings of self doubt in my own art. A constant doubt of my own game design choices. The confidence and passion to create something like Hylics will always inspire me. Thank you for giving these games such a wonderful video.
Thank you for saying all this :))) I actually found out while editing that RPG maker has a lot more diversity than I originally thought, with people making all sorts of stuff that I would never assume it would be capable of. I think it's so cool. Just out of curiosity, what's your game about?
@@TheGazorpatron thanks so much for asking! It seriously means a lot. Postlife, the game I was talking about. Is a fairly simple story about exploring a weird afterlife world in search of the main character’s missing sister, but It’s what this afterlife world gets to express that I love so much. It’s an excuse to explore my experiences as an artist, my love for silly but descriptive writing, and multiple choice games (which I really began to love after Undertale released) It’s kinda hard to describe what Postlife is, but the tldr is that it’s a walking simulator visual novel, lmao.
@@Awakecor8989 oh damn yeah I just watched your lil trailer for it. It's ironic what actually happens in the trailer with the whole play it sober or high thing bc I was just thinking that it's the exact kind of thing I would play high lol. I really hope you stick it through to the end and finish it, it can be hard to work on our silly creative projects when we have busy lives and lots of stuff going on but persevering till the end feels so satisfying, and if it connects with anyone at all then that is such an amazing thing in it's own right.
@@TheGazorpatron thanks so much for checking it out man. keep creating stuff dude, whatever it might be. I find that creative expression is what drives life. 🙏 (at least for me lol)

Oh wow!! You're music is incredible btw. There's a fair chunk of time at the beginning of this year where I'd put on a lot of the songs from hylics 2 and absent moon to fall asleep to, idk why they just got me in a really calm sense of mind lol. Anyways thank you for commenting and keep doing what you do I'll be psyched for all of it x
@@TheGazorpatron I appreciate the kind words. I'll pass these sentiments along to Mason! We are looking forward to showing the world what's next for the world of Hylics!
I was hoping you would comment! I'm glad to be back boulderguy888 slash boulderbro slash boulderguywhy. Tbh ur opinion is the only one I care about anyway so I hoped you enjoyed the video :)))))))
hey man I don't know how to structure this in a coherent or witty comment but I really enjoyed this video. I hope to see more of your work. not in a demanding media hungry way that will leach any and all enjoyment of creation way. I just hope the quality and personality aren't lost. anyway I had a look through your youtube music playlist and I agree, you are cool
Thank you so much! I appreciate this comment a lot it makes it a lot easier for me to create just what I want regardless of what other people think I should make. Obviously this video isn't pulling like ridiculous viral numbers or anything but this is still really weird for me because it's definitely the most feedback and attention I've gotten on anything I've ever made so I'm gonna be conscious of not just trying to capture the same thing again and make things instead that I actually want to. So thank you for phrasing this in the way you did lol. Ur cruisin playlist is cool too
Man, what a deep essay about Hylics, life itself and meaning! Loved the connections you've made, and the parallel to your personal struggles with health hit really close to home. I don't struggle with physical ailments, but I'm autistic and prone to burnout and depressive episodes. Both titles in this series were with me in two separate vacations from work when I was fearing to lose a little bit of myself due to accumulated stress, anxiety and mental fatigue. Both helped me through it and lived in my thoughts for weeks afterwards. Not as an obsession, but as something that gave me peace and inspiration to be more creative myself. This hobby we share sure can be a source of much deeper emotions and moments than we as a society give it credit. Your video just renewed this good feeling after a hard week that shook my sense of meaning just a bit. Thanks for sharing, and for the unintended help 🙂 Best wishes from Brazil.
Thank you so much! You are right it can be weirdly inspiring to see a creative work that seemingly exists despite the world around it, and that's what Hylics is to me and kind of what this video is as well. It's very cool to me that you got out of it what I was really trying to put into it. Life is so tiring sometimes. Keep being yourself. It can be hard but it's worth it.
@@TheGazorpatron Wow! Thanks for the kind reply! The choice, other than embracing who we are and slowly pruning the parts we wish were better is to negate yourself completely. Which would be death in life, so... Not an option at all. Let's keep the balance between embracing and pruning, and hope for the best!
Honestly I don't even know what to say here, I am completely speechless. Gusse all I really can say is this video is amazing, not just because it's a video about Hylics, but because it is about you, if that makes any sense. Very deep video that I could relate to, especially the themes of meaning and existentialism. You are an amazing writer. I am glad I found this channel, If I could subscribe 1000 more times I would, you deserve it. Keep up the amazing work you amazing human being.
Honestly, this is probably the nicest comment I've ever received. I'm really glad you got so much out of the video. It was a bit of a journey to make and I must have put more time into writing, filming and editing into this than anything else I've made, the drive behind which was my love for the games and my love for EXPRESSING my love in general. So genuinely, it makes me so happy that it connected to you like this. Thank you, Ethan :)
This is a beautiful video. Thank you for making it. This has given me a entirely fresh perspective on the meaning (or lack thereof) of Hylics. Every single Hylics video I watch has a different outlook on these games, and yours, I think, has been the most personal and meaningful I've encountered thus far. Hylics *is* such a special series of games that seem almost antithetical to everything that most other video games are doing. The mechanics and world seem so familiar yet so unique and, at times, incomprehensible. That's why I love and respect these games, and their creator, so damn much. I love this game series. It deserves so much love. Cannot wait to see how this saga continues soon.
Wow I'm not sure how I missed this comment but thank you! Funnily enough, after I uploaded this I guess youtube really caught on to my hylics obsession because I started getting recommended a few of your videos and I've really enjoyed them so keep doing what you're doing. I 100 percent agree as well, the sheer aura of these games, being both so unknowable and kinda nostalgic, like something you would stumble across in the corner of CEX for the PS1 for like 50 pence, is a lot of what I was attracted to. Also, thank you for making me realize this whole time it's been pronounced H-EYE-lics, not H-ILL-ics. Guess it's too late to change that now lol
