  • I've yet to see anyone do a video on an oil change for these fun little machines, so here you go!
This covers the basics of a Kubota RTV X900 engine oil change.
    15W-40 engine oil.
Napa gold 1365 engine oil filter.
Fairly simple process. Lift the back bed up as far as it can go. Allow the RTV to warm up for at least 5 minutes, even more if in a colder climate. Turn off the engine. Now, remove the 5 bolts on the skid plate underneath the RTV. A jack will help hold the skid plate up so it doesn't fall on you; just a fair warning. Now you have access to the drain plug! Remove the drain plug and drain the oil. If it's coming out slowly, open the oil filler hole cap SLOWLY. Opening it all the way up will make the oil drain at a crazy speed, probably spilling out of your oil pan. Once the oil has drained, remove the old oil filter. I used a pair of channel locks to grab on and take it off from the bottom.
Now that you've removed the old oil filter and drained the oil, pick up your new filter. Dip your finger in the new oil and spread it around the O-ring on top of the new filter; Make sure it's nice and coated! Screw on the new filter, making sure it's snug, but don't over tighten it. Now, put the drain plug back in, making sure it's nice and snug as well. Now it's time to add the oil! In the oil filler hole, add 3.3 quarts of your oil. Check the oil level using the dipstick; It's going to come back over the top mark on the dipstick, but that's alright! Start up your RTV for about 15-20 seconds, looking at the oil filter and drain plug to see if there's any leaks. If you see any leaks whatsoever, stop and re-tighten or inspect. If not, turn off your RTV and check the oil level again. Should be right at the top mark!
Now, re-attach your skid plate, and you're done!

Good straightforward video.... No comedy, no kids, no animals either.

Thanks for making this video. Been needing to change the oil in my X900 for too long and this will make it easy to do (in theory anyways). Wish I did not have to remove the skid plate but.... ah well.

One of the few clear and concise instructions out there. Also I want to kiss you for putting the details in the description of what I needed to buy.

I have a new RTV X900 - the oil filter is on so tight I caould not get it off. Kind of weird when they tell you to hand tighten and then add 1/2 turn. This one acts like its welded on. What a pain in the rear.

I have an RTV-X900 too, the first oil change was a challenge. The factory installed filter was incredibly tight and may have gone on before the engine was painted so it may have been "glued on" and/or torqued too much at the factory. 2nd oil change was a breeze.
FYI, another thing I found is that even though my garage floor is level I jacked up the back of the UTV and got about another cup of oil out of it while I was draining the pan.

Thank you. Noticed you are on a breeder farm. Any inventions to walk houses and pick eggs /chickens?

+Michael Pham Well, not that I know of. Our ducks were free to walk around in their houses. We just picked their eggs up off the floor/out of their nests every day. If they were in individual cages you could get away with a slanted floor and a conveyor belt, like chickens.
