    It's all in your mind...i just climbed a 100 ' ladder a few days ago for the first time and I can tell you that yes it is very high, the best thing to do is not to look up but look straight at your hands, take it one step at a time and breath each step you take...coming from a guy who was mindfucked by these videos before I climbed it and thought I was terrified of heights..truly it was all in my head

    I'm not really bothered by confined spaces, but i am absolutely terrified of heights! I get scared climbing a deer stand, I don't know if I could handle climbing a ladder that high!

    If he's on a belay line, it means nothing. The mental part is a lot of this kind of maneuver. For example - put aplank on the sidewalk and ask someone to walk it. No problem. Put that plank 30 feet in the air between 2 buildings, and your mind will mess with you physically...your thioughts abouit falling make you more apt to fall.

    Damn. I'm gonna go through the fire academy at my college, probably 2015, but crap, I have a major fear of heights. Not sure how I'm going to be able to do this. Well, by the time it rolls around, I'll be in shape and ready to go.

    • @Rinks80

      I'm currently in the fire academy here in central Texas. My fear of heights is ridiculous and I had to do this just this last Friday. It was intense and took a lot for me to get it done...but I did it. You'll be fine, once you get to the top and strap in then head back down, you'll feel really good about accomplishing it. Good luck...

    For those of you laying on your beds/couches saying this is easy go annoy someone else’s video. This isn’t just a mental test this is physically exhausting. This makes a stair master look like cake. Your fire suit, boots, mask, gloves and all the other crap you have to wear weighs you down. It also makes you hot and sweaty during the climb. It’s easy to talk trash from your phone or computer but many of you couldn’t do this.

    • @edubproductions1
      @edubproductions1 9 лет назад +4

      jackrobinson82 There are ladder belts with ropes attached to them that they wear when they climb. When they go higher on the ladder, the instructor tightens the rope at the end of the ladder like a belay system.

    • @dstahlbock

      The large urban departments do it regularly. Smaller urban departments once in awhile. Suburban and rural volunteer departments are going to be hardly at all of ever, simply because of the demographics of their communities.
