I'm glad that things worked out for you this time, proving it was absolutely player error.
Just a couple more things to help you.
1 Cav is best vs archers, not cav. Make ur cav follow you and go behind their army far enough that they don't aggro, while sending your infantry/archers towards their front/sides. Then when ur frontline is 150 away from enemy army, charge cav at their archers first, then others.
2 Infantry is best vs cav, but only in square formation, so if you have to deal with big cav, pretend their cav is their frontline and do the same mechanic as above
3 Using your cav to charge the enemy infantry/archers as soon as battle starts helps prevent them establishing the best position and scatters them making it much easier and quicker to have ur line cut them all down
4 Audiences don't like to watch ragers or quitters, so if it's getting too much, take a break and go into learning mode
