  • HUGE UPGRADE here. A day after posting my initial 1977 Giants/Cowboys 'improvement' (which still had major issues because it was a pretty subpar recording), I became privy to a MUCH better source copy, which I took and did my usual enhancement procedures on. You can see the before and after shots from this new source here -- imgbox.com/g/DPCfZJ89rL -- With this vastly superior ENHANCEMENT now posted, I have removed the inferior version from my channel.

    HUGE UPGRADE here. A day after posting my initial 1977 Giants/Cowboys 'improvement' (which still had major issues because it was a pretty subpar recording), I became privy to a MUCH better source copy, which I took and did my usual enhancement procedures on. The color is SO much better on this one and there was no videotape noise along the top, and no hiss to the audio this time around - just a MUCH cleaner source, which makes a world of difference in the end result. The commercials weren't cut out in this version, but the game still ends at the exact same spot midway through the 4th quarter. You can see the before and after shots from this new source here -- imgbox.com/g/DPCfZJ89rL -- With this vastly superior ENHANCEMENT now posted, I have removed the inferior version from my channel.

    That may never be duplicated again. A team that can have 12 rookies on a team and still make the Super Bowl and win it. That says a lot about how good Tom Landry and his entire staff and the GM were. Doesn't hurt to have the foundation they already had developed to groom those rookies to be at their best. Size along with speed, Dallas was ahead of their time. I often wonder had Parcells been the Giants coach going against Landrys Cowboys of the 1970s how soon before the Giants even the playing field. I remember when Scott Brunner was the Giants QB, because Simm struggled to stay healthy in his early years.

      Giants had Parcells, the Cheater Belichick, and Lawrence Taylor, Carl Banks, etc. Everson Walls from the Cowboys was even playing for Parcells by 1990. I think those Giants were to physical for any of Landry's teams, as were Gibbs Washington teams and Ryan's Eagle teams. Landry couldn't hang with any of those coachrs and teams. It's why when the Cowboys were sold Jimmy Johnson was hired. The Cowboys most physical teams were under Jimmy Johnson. They were much more smash mouth on both sides of the ball rhan any of Landrys teams. Remember what they did twice to the KGun offense, which I don't think Landrys team could have stopped.

      @@mm-gl7szRespectfully stating: You're wrong on so many levels. Dallas started declining once Staubach retired due to too many concussions,that and several supporting cast coaches and players left, along with their best scouts retiring & or left and finally after two last runs at the nfc titles were blown by Danny White and Landry's failed "prevent defense " and the 49er's catch. But what would I know, I've only followed them since 1965.
      BTW: Unless you were wearing diapers at the time you might recall that player strike season? Landry's team had the best winning record during that holdout, and proved when it came to coaching HE WAS A GENIUS. And Buddy Ryan's birds against Landry's boys? Laughable! Gibbs on the other hand was good but more an equal during the time he lasted. Concerning Parcells, he used to question Landry for coaching tips as in how long do you rest your players, how many hours do you drill them etc. and said as much later when he coached Dallas in the early 2000's. Belicheck by the way when asked who he modeled his coaching style from answered LANDRY and the Cowboys, why? Because his dad worked for and with Landry & Dallas while he (Bill) was a sideline teenage water boy at Dallas. Overall, beyond Schula (?) Landry in the modern day NFL was one of the greatest there were. Did you know he helped develop the 4-3 defense while playing for the Giants? Lastly, there was good reason why the tag "dooms day defense " got that name, and that "KGun" offense you're referring to wouldn't have been a problem for that defense at their peak.

      @@Rev22-21 Good things just simply don't last. Staubach was smart to retire. He went on to great success in real estate - many multiples of the financial success he had in the NFL. Same with many other Cowboys - Breunig, Drew Pearson, Howley (from an earlier period), Lee Roy Jordan... Too Tall tried boxing for a while. Things also become boring once you have achieved great success. The fact that Tom Brady won seven super bowls speaks to many things regarding playing circumstances and athleticism, but it primarily speaks to his being a very BORING person, with few other interests.

Then when the Bills were all but passed out the Fin fans were gloating how they outplayed us. When they make these stadiums today you know they design it to benefit the home team over the road team. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. I forgot how bad the sun to shade contrast was in these old school Dallas home games. The visitor always got the short end.

The late Troy Archer is a great view as well. He would die in a tragic car accident a few years after this game. Roger Staubach was the gold standard for all NFL QB's. Dallas writers before the game called the Giants the NY Pygmies and commented that qb's Jerry Golsteyn "sounds like errol flynns lawyer" and backup (Joe) "Steve Picarcik looks like he could change the oil in my car " ...the Dallas writer finished with calling the Giants "Clownish and amateurs"...

SB 21 will always be the something that I cannot describe the feeling. ...you thought back to 1973 and a 6-0 preseason with pundits picking them to win the east...only to go 2-11-1....then 4 straight losses in the last seconds/OT killed 1974 leading to a 2-12 record when they could have been 7-7 or 6-8...or you thought about the 0-9 start in 1976,,..losing to these Cowboys 9-3!...holding the Cowboys to no TD's yet you lose?!....then the following week lose to the Eagles 10-0 in heavy rain @ Giants stadium....then you thought about this dumb game from 1977 when no end was in sight and the Cowboys destroyed us...or the infamous stupid fumble game when all he had to do was fall down 1978 vs the Eagles....at that point you thought they would never win a game they had won...then came George Young/Simms/LT and finally...SB 21. see, ..keep the faith. He also did not have the benefit of playing behind Kuechenberg, Little and Langer who would share seventeen pro bowls and nine all-pro nods between them. Norm Evans [RT], while eclipsed by the inside three had picked up two pro bowl selections during the Dolphins heydays. He did have a last hurrah in '79 where he gained 837 yards and scored 12 TD's. o

    Had to watch these horrible Giants teams from the mid Seventies onward, because we only got the CBS affiliate in Northern Vermont growing up. We could not get the NBC affiliate (though CTV 12 in Montreal occasionally broadcast Steelers games). Had to deal with these teams, which made us all Cowboys fans by default, since we saw them all the time. This Cowboy team was one of the best, and had the most amazing depth at all positions. Dorsett was a rookie, Preston Pearson, Robert Newhouse, Scott Laidlaw, Doug Dennison...you don't get that anymore. Receivers, too, Drew Pearson, Golden Richards, Butch Johnson and a young Tony Hill. Defensively, same thing, before we knew what a depth chart was. Staubach of course was everyone's favorite QB up here; just a great player and competitor, and also a genuinely nice man to all accounts. That said, NFL Today was what we grew up with...Musberger, George and Cross had excellent chemistry, along with Jimmy the Greek. I did not care for the musical segments, but other than a fine show, and I loved those throwback scoring screens. Thank you for posting these up!

      Considering the performance level of the Giants back then, there wasn't much to get excited about; it would be as if the Cowboys were conducting an organized scrimmage against an assemblage of hodgepodge players.

    The Giants really didn’t have a bad D-line and that was a super trio of linebackers. Mediocre elsewhere and obviously a good 5 years away from good coaching, but that defense wasn’t bad. Not much at QB for a long time though,

      @@HAL_9000__ - Sure, but it's difficult to find the information on the date without having the result spoiled by seeing the final score. The joy of listening to these games comes from not knowing the result. That's why it's best for the person who uploads the video to put that information in the video's title.

    You would have to go back to the 1974 season (a bad year for Dallas) when the lowly 1970's Giants actually beat the Cowboys in Dallas.

    There was no more stronger hate for the Cowboys than this LA Rams fan had for them back in the 70s. I still hate the Cowboys just not as much because the NFL just isnt what it used to be.

      @davevolskysbackdoor5673  9 месяцев назад +1

      It wasn't known as 'SD' back then. It was just 'TV'. And there were more than 3 channels. You could have up to 13 channels on VHF and up to 69 on UHF. Of course there were NEVER that many channels transmitting on your dial, but there were easily at least 20 or 25 channels that you could pick up in some capacity.
