@@frazer4737 Yup. He's worse than MATS with his feet for sure. But as an actual shot stopper and commander in the penalty area there are few better than him. Considering MATS recent struggles with allowing near post goals I think Szczesny might actually even be an improvement.
And "ball playing" keepers are overrated anyways. That's a complimentary/secondary skill set for a keeper imo. The #1 most important thing is how good they save the ball and win/clear crosses. And Szczesny is one of the best in that aspect. Also very good at saving pens.

The guy in his coaching career has won 16 trophies including a sextuple without the likes of messi on his team. But yet somehow there is a small portion of our fanbase that claim vigorously that Hansi Flick is being successful, not by his great tactics, player management

As a supporter, I’m split. Frankly, I’d rather ignore all the negative talk around Iñaki and his past performances and focus on his potential AND the opportunity to not only cover ter Stegen in his absence but also do it well enough to challenge for the position and transition into the starting role as ter Stegen ages. However, GKs live and die by their performances and substitutes/reserves often struggle to come thru since they’re so rarely called upon that match sharpness simply eludes them. This is why in the modern game, having a league and cup rotation in goal is so important. You never know when you might need a more long term substitution for your number 1, so cups can go a long way into making up for match fitness. In Barcelona’s case, having the secondary be a starting player for Atlètic should be imperative but that’s not the case… hoping this changes that. Atlètic may not be playing in a competitive league at the moment but hopefully investing in a bid to restore them to the second division will help install this approach. The third keeper should also be Atlètic’s backup with three more youngsters subbing in for them on match days for the senior side. Because the position is such a singular role, and what with GKs being such pivotal pieces to the high speed chess game that has become of modern defending, it is a problem clubs have to solve for and we have the luxury of having a moderately competitive second team in Atlètic to help with that since league rules permit it. Alternatively, you gotta have your two backups playing in lots of training sessions with the various youth teams but this can stunt youth development so it’s not quite a viable option. The best solution is loaning with clauses to the effect of should you primary be ousted for longer than 60/90 days, the loan agreement is rescinded with a small fine paid by the club to restore the services of their player but even then… you’d be hard pressed to get anyone to sign on such a deal as any club looking to loan a GK is probably already desperate for the player.

Szczesny should be clear #1 choice here. It's actually quite shocking that he retired at 34 which isn't old for a goalkeeper. Surprised he didn't get more offers this summer considering he was at an extremely high level these past 2-3 years. He was lights out at the 2022 WC and was the only reason Poland made it out of the group. Through the first 4 matches of the WC nobody made more saves than Szczesny. Poland were getting outshot and outplayed and yet he barely let any goals in making numerous wonder saves every game and even saving 2 penalties. Afterwards he was doing the same thing at Juve that season and performing heroics on a regular basis while the team struggled. Even at these Euros he was very good.
This guy kept Allison out of the team at Roma. And then went to replace legendary Buffon at Juve and nobody complained that the levels dropped. He's played at Arsenal, Roma and Juve so he's used to the pressures of a big club.
This is a free out of jail card for Barcelona if they can make it happen. I'm sure he can be convinced if they actually reach out. They're in serious contention for the league and it's a league which is a top league which he's never won or experienced. It would probably be the most prestigious trophy in his cabinet if Barca ends up winning it. Plus he gets to play in UCL, in sunny Barcelona and play with fellow national legend Lewandowski as well. Barca has to make this happen. They can't afford to go with Pena or someone like Bravo for the remainder of the season if they're serious about winning the league. Has to be Szczesny, or they have to commit sin and take former RM man Navas. Those are the 2 guys I would be confident in. Maybe the Las Palmas keeper but they'd have to wait to January for that which is way too long. So the best realistic options RIGHT NOW are Szczesny and Navas imo.

It is a blessing for Barca. He has never save a shot just like the other goal keepers.Yes,he is very good in using his foot but a goal keeper's fundamental responsibility is to save shots and penalties.Sadly,he has a skill that deceives others even when he couldnt save a shot from a far distance.

How in any Way is it a blessing for Barca? Was it also a blessing when he was injured last season, or were we completely struggling in the games he was injured? Exactly. Ter stegen being injured is so far from a blessing

    Emiliano MFing Martinez!
Arsenal FA Cup KILLER Mentality Keeper,
World Cup Champion to Goat MESSI,
All round talented & confident sweeper & distributor...now at Aston Villa, .... just my opinion.
i predicted he'd win the world & go to Barca when he won that FA Cup for us....still hav it on the cards, he's in thw UCL wid Emery & Villa...but he shouldn't wait till 40 yrs old to go to a killer team & aim for the UCL title...just my opinion.

like Kane he's not a mercenary, just a good humble chap, that's already playing in the UCL, I'm just saying, 1 of those clubs that are playing to win it in the next few should sign him, to finish his trophy cabinet... humble chap in no hurry.
