Not many people are as good as Mike Lemmo. You could say he is Norm’s rare guitarist.
Ain't that the truth
Clever
That's tasty
Nothing like listening to a Beatles song on a 12 string.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice to hear GEORGE getting some love!
It's actually one of my favourite tracks on that album.
This is one of Lemmo's best demos. Partly because that Rick sounds AMAZING. But also because Lemmo didn't go for his usual bag of overly used guitar tricks and songs by Hendrix, Zepplin, Van Halen, etc.. I like it when he diversifIes.
I Love Rickenbackers!
Same! I kinda want one now
I have a 1993 330 that I melt people's faces with.
@clairethemusician968 They are magic. Got 3 - need to stop :-D
Thats an awesome guitar, sounds gorgeous 😍 Lemmo really makes it sing ❤ Wow 😊
Absolutely Gorgeous RickenBACKer. ❤
Awesome looking 12 string. Love the look of the lacquered fretboard too.
Yeah, people love it or hate it (or the idea of it). After 5 minutes playing, you don't even notice it.
@@roughcutguitars Yeah I can’t imagine it makes a huge difference playing-wise but it looks cool. I like small stuff that sets guitars apart from everything else.
Absolutely fab sounding guitar. Nothing sounds like a 12 string Ric - in the right hands.
I’ve been waiting for a guitar to break through for me-and this was definitely the one. Beautiful sound!
the chime and the reverb are magical
Great selections to show the beautiful sounds of a 12 string. Great job Lemmo. Thanks Jen.
Beautiful music to my heart, thank you Michael!
Sends shivers down my spine. What an awesome sound.
The perfect amount of Rickenbacker twang. Great playing Lemmo🎸🎸
Gorgeous sound!
Sounds so beautiful!! Another great job man!
There is nothing like a Rick. Excellent Playing, Beautiful Sounds
Wow, Spectacular 🤩
I've wanted a 620/12 for a long time, but now I think I need one!!
Amazing sounds, outstanding playing!!!
Just WOW💥
Mike, that was a great demo of one of my favorite guitars! It was great to see you and Norm again last week!! Take care. Tom
Great job on "If I needed Someone" where all the reverb works! My fave song since my college days.
Beautiful sounds out of that thing!
Amazing what beautiful sounds it makes!! Michael you are a wizard. Beautifully done
Makes me want one..thank you Jen for a marvelous job as always
you can tell that Rick has some of that "Mojo" we all look for, especially the Bottom End...sounds killer! Great playing as well, I kept thinking of "turn, turnnnn...turnnnn" Forrest Gump. LOL
You certainly make that Rickenbacker Chime like it should,Well Done.
Saw this up on Reverb the other day, glad to hear how it sounds.
I have a 360 but I love the shape of the 620s. This one has a really dark fireglo, it looks so nice.
Great work, crew!!
'73' i'm finding my way on guitar at 16.
Stop by good ol Manor Music and play 3 guitars, a SB Jag, a Blonde Hofner Violin guitar and a 'wave crest' 6 string Ric similar to this gem.
Yep, an offset here but never played the others in shops again,,,,maybe saw a Ric,,,,Hofner, nope.
Thanx for the memories :)
That warm fuzzy tone ~ a happy place, after it's been a hard day's night...
This is one of the coolest Guitar Of The Day episodes you’ve done. I love electric 12-strings, and this one is really cool. I had a Vox Phantom XII back in 1966, and I used Rickenbacker flatwounds on it, because Pete Townshend said it was “important”. Ehh, what does he know? 😁
Fantastic 12 string sound (and playing).
Thank you!
Waking up here in the UK to the sound of Lemmo. Beautiful.
this guitar sounds so great
Oh yeah, lovely sound.
Love that sound
Sounds wonderful.
Great guitar and you really made it sing! Absolutely love the first song!! You truly know what it means to play a 12 string Ric! Thank you and ✌🏻
If I needed someone-the Beatles
Beautiful guitar, wonderful sound.
Greetings from Brazil.
Sweet guitar and great tune, Lemmo
What an absolutely faboulus looking and sounding Ric. I have a 620 six string in Jetglo Myself, and that is one of the best guitars I have.
This 12-string has the same, small shark tooth inlays as my 620-6. I think Rickenbacker made them that way during a period when they were worried about the brittleness of the fingerboard wood. I really like the compact size and shape of a 620. Lovely guitar.
Holy Ding Dongs Batguy......what a sound Michael.....I could listen to that for hours.....beautiful Michael
Brings out the chime. Sounds fab.
Awesome ❤️🎸🎸
Excellent as ever Mike
Really nice sound 👍✌️☮️
wow
just beautiful
Fantastic guitar and Lemmo's playing is breathtaking, gives me the chills!
wow!! what a beauty right there!! same guitar tom petty was holding on the ' dam the torpedos" album!! very nice!
If I needed someone is such a great tune. Well done Beef
I love mine. 😊 JetGlo. Vintage Toaster pups. I like the wider neck compared the the narrower necks of my 2 semi-hollow Ric 12’s
Lemmo’s demo would make Johnny Marr proud.
It makes me think of the Birds and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Love that sound!
Byrds
My uncle turned me on to the BIRDS, he has a few of their LPs on vinyl in great shape. He even gave me his HAWKWIND LPs one even with LEMMY, and STEALERS WHEEL. Wish I had one of his BIRDS LPs, but he loves them too much to part with. I cleaned up one his favorite LPs of all time, forget who now, but was worth $150 before I cleaned it ultrasonically, now sounds even better, worth more. I couldn't afford y own copy. Also cleaned his TINY TIM LPs
@@bruceselenka7181there are bands of both spelling, BIRDS were far better, much lesser known, much superior music and album cover artwork too. I own most of THE BYRDS. I cannot afford to own any BIRDS...YET!
Lemmo semble avoir pris beaucoup de plaisir avec cette guitare. Bravo et merci from France
Wow really cool
Damn the Torpedos. Everybody needs one. Stereo capable. Unknown Hinson’s 6 string kills. So does ML.
Sounds very nice
It is the type of guitar that I would have liked back as a teenager when I had two different solid body models and three different Acoustics but no 12-string electric. Today, that's one type of guitar I still haven't owned yet.
Damn the torpedoes, Love hearing the bass note first on this configuration. Ricky 12s sound better than other 12s because of this and with flat wounds a much different character. Nice guitar, and with this one you have the Tom Petty 12 string that actually belonged to Mike Campbell. Thanks Michael and Jen, everyday gets better than the previous.
Yup - the secret Ric recipe 😋
If I needed someone, great pic for the rick😎🎸
After he plays If I Needed Someone what are the other songs he is playing? They sound amazing with that 620/12 Rickenbacker.
Looks like Mike got lost in the reverb there for a couple moments, just rocking back and forth. Twelves can do that to you,,, Been so long since I played flat wounds, I forgot the 'thunk' of the lower register. Have to mount round wounds right away. Great stuff Michael, probably sold this guitar with this vid! Thanks!
Rickenbackers look really cool
Lovely tone and playing. It would be nice to see a rickenbacker 480XC. I rarely see them demo'd. Cool looking guitars
Sounds absolutely fantastic, but I think shimmer reverb has been added on the last track. Great playing by Michael though! 👍👌
Inspiring....
Fine copy of the original German Thomann RB612CS. And it also got the right jangle, despite missing the F holes.
The first strum, I knew it would be either “Bells of Rhymey” (Byrds) or “If I needed Someone” (Beatles)
Reminds me of the solo guitar track from:
🎬THE WRESTLER
w/ Mickey Rourke
~ Very Cool Rickee
That was soooo good I listened to it 3 times. Can anybody tell me the name of that second song was?
I have trouble with texting but this 12 string sound solo nice
That tone had the Byrds written all over it’ and obviously George Harrison’ great playing as always Lemmo ✌️🙌🔥🎸
3:00 noiceeee! 🇩🇰🇩🇰 need some vocals to go along
A Ric 12 with flats: Tone of the Ages
"A 20 foot Rickenbacker through a 20 foot Fender amplifier"
- Johnny Marr describing his dream rig
I enjoy see and hearing many of the guitars I wish I had. I don't normally comment because I can't afford anything of these guitars
Buy you can talk about them for free :-)
Flatwounds, definitely! Thank you, Tom Petty, for the 620-12!
620 was already around. Tom created the 660.
Thanks to Mike Campbell actually. He's the one that found that famous 625/12 back in the day. And as Jeff mentioned, Tom's Rickenbacker limited edition signature guitar was designated as the 660/12 TP. The 660/12 has a few significant differences to the 620/12. The 660 has Toaster pickups, a 12 string bridge saddle, a trapeze tailpiece and a wider neck and fretboard among other things.
Big Tom Petty fan, love these. what happened to tele Tuesday?
Well done grasshopper
when you have a ric 12 you got to play petty
Dang, Mike. Never saw you pick like that, very cool!
Not much else sounds like a Rickenbacker, especially a 12zstring Rickenbacker.
Great playing as always, Michael.
Thanks, y'all 🙏🏻🤍
Michael anything with Strings Lemmo
4:15 The melody sounds familiar just can’t recall the song anyone know?
Beautifully played by Michael as always.
I'm also wondering!
The Jam: “Man In A Corner Shop”
@@Jeffcatbuckeye it's not that. Driving me nuts. Seems so familiar, hopefully someone will put us out of our misery...
@@jerrygerza7565 sounds like an REM riff
@@Jeffcatbuckeye I thought it was “Man in the corner shop” too at first but hummed it to my wife …..she thinks it’s Shania Twain “your still the one”…..kind of sounds like it too at the chorus part but it’s not that either.
Wish you would start putting the names of the tunes you're playing in the description. Like everyone else, I knew the Beatles but do not know the other 2 or 3?
#2 The Jam: “Man In the Corner Shop”
Not sure what 3 and 4 were. I think 3 was his own improv.
those sounds are good for a person's brain
♥
What were the songs? I know the first one (Beatles - If I needed someone)
The Jam: “Man In A Corner Shop”
Looks Radius Sounds 🏁The Plimsouls next time ?
And early Smiths. "A 20 foot Rickenbacker through a 20 foot amp" - Johnny Marr on his dream guitar
IF I NEED SOMEONE
What's the second song he plays here?
@@Jeffcatbuckeye No, definitely not...
@@taller_than_short The Jam: “Man In A Corner Shop”
@@Jeffcatbuckeyealso not
@@taller_than_short ok
I thought it would be a lot less jangly with the flatties on it. Pleasant to find out that was not the case. Still sounds good.
Secret to the Beatles & The Who early tone. Quoting Pete, "You have to put flatwounds in it for 'that' sound."
Thomastik Enfeld makes a set of rickenbacker specific flat wound strings that they sell in a set now. Pricey but worth it.
The last song really demonstrates how the Rick’s reverse stringing makes for the unique tone.
Technically this is a 660/12. 13/4 neck, toaster pickups. Vintage tail piece. The pick guards are usually gold though
Love Rics love the made in Santa Ana thing but I have big hands - those thin necks are not easy for a big handed person...
They have options for wider necks now.
Neck is usually only an issue for the 12 strings and even then you can buy a wider spaced nut. Wide necked models are 1993 Plus, 660/6, 660/12, discontinued 650s.
Most people don't know George was the 1st Beatle to play a gig in the USA in 1963 only a few months before the boys played on Ed Sullivan in Feb '64. He was visiting his sis in Benton Ill and while there he sat in with local group the Four Vests making George an unofficial 5th Vest for at least 2 of their sets. While in Ill. he bought a Rick 425 6 string which has same shape as one here only with big honkin' scratch plate. I preferred the Capri shape of Lennon's 325 and the bat wing 1st gen 360-12s. The 425 went for $675k at auction - I don't know if Dhani bought it. Rick 12s are like a shimmer stomp; they do one thing really well but it gets old fast after you ape the "4 songs" and you can't use it on every song but unlike a stomp it's an expensive little 1 trick pony to own. Still, everyone should own a Rick at least once just because of "that" sick Rick sound. 🎸
I do think people make them less versatile than they actually are. They have been pegged to one sound, which is an awesome sound, but you would be surprised what else they can do when you experiment with different settings, neck pickup, amps, Ric-O-Sound, etc. Hell, I’ve seen people play metal on Rick-6s. It makes a crazy sound on a 12….not one I would go for, but definitely unique for somebody out there. Even here, he plays if I needed someone on the neck, with reverb and echo and it provides chime, but a very different sound from the original compressed bridge pickup sound through a VOX.
@@Jeffcatbuckeye wait a minute now, you can't just sneak in a Hell, metal on a Rick 6 blast; nobody said the Rick 6's were one trick ponies - only the 12s - it was all the exact same sound - I've owned 'em. Stomps making it more versatile? LOL NO, FX make a guitar sound different that's all. But the 6s?? Lennon's nasty chunk for one; Pete Townshend smashing chords on his; REM Peter Buck killing it on a 6, Smithereens,Bangles on and on the 6 string Ricks cover a LOT of ground and provide that unique Rick growl in the upper mids. 🎸
@@cuda426hemi I would agree the 12 are less versatile but even then they are more versatile than people give them credit for being. In that aspect the 12 string sound isn’t isolated to just rickenbacker.
What's the 2nd song called? Kid, you played well?
R.E.M-“Everybody Hurts”
@@Jeffcatbuckeye thank you!
@ actually while I only heard part of it, it sounds like more of The Jam: “Man In A Corner Shop”.
👏👍
Give us some playlist please
I think a lot of bits are songs with a lot of improv which makes it unique.
1: the Beatles: If I Needed Someone
2: The Jam: Man in the Corner Shoo….with other elements from other songs
second song??
