Thanks Karl! Seems like that's the usual for early season down there, hope some big birds start moving in for y'all soon! You gonna be hunting this weekend down there?
My mom and my dad were coming back from fishing and one of the bridges is closed so we have to go another way,it was about 5:35 and we passed a pond and there was hundreds of wood ducks and like a hundred mallards working around and dumping in the pond….I’m hoping I can hunt there..
Woodies as always in the piedmont, good number of teal this year (at least for my area), have seen decent numbers of mallards and gadwall. Hoping to get on some bigger ducks in the morning.
Thanks, We got into waterfowl hunting because of your channel. We hunt western NC in the Mountains! Nearly get our limit of Geese every time we go out and get good options with ducks
@HokeOutdoors No problem dude. Waterfowling has been my favorite thing to do in life for the past 3.5-4 years and all these other duck/goose hunting creators have never seemed to care as much about the audience compared to you neither sportsmanship. I could really get behind what you do and go across the country for a longer season 😂 it sounds really fun but I don't have the budget just yet. Good luck with the rest of your season hope you get some neat ducks coming in.
It doesn't seem like there's much feed in there but it's a quiet spot where the birds can rest which is why I think they were stopping there as they migrated through! I'm hoping to get to spend a morning or two there on a hard north wind morning this season
Hey Thomas!! It seems like there’s some birds moving on the in lane areas which is usual…pretty slow. But, a place i hunt at the coast is LOADED. I cant wait to go out there around christmas.
Hope you get on some in the morning if you’ll be hunting! Glad to hear they’re thick at the coast already too! They’re heading out of the upper Midwest pretty quick so there should be more birds heading that way soon
Good work man! I’m up in Central Washington, nothing but tumbleweeds and reeds. Seeing you hunt in timber and trees makes me a bit jealous haha. Good luck this year!
Thanks brother! The east coast definitely makes up for it's lack of ducks with some really cool places to hunt them. Hope you have a great season out there as well!
Jump over to the counties that border of oregon; the cowlitz, lewis and thurston have an insane amount of birds pouring through it. Trust me man there are some duck honey holes that are public too. That and you see quite a spread of different species. I've seen everything from Scoter, Pintails, Woodies, Widge, and a ungodly amount of Scaup and Goldeneyes. And there is alot of Timber hunts over here, old ponds forgotten about, etc.
I think its to late for me to start this year but im hoping to try duck hunting for the first time next year. Im somewhat close to lakenorman so I might try out there.
Thanks Frank! Unfortunately there's just so much cyber scouting that goes on these days that I always keep the names of the places I hunt to myself. I can tell you that this was in coastal NC though
Hunting VA public land with no scouting whatsoever, opening day killed A green wing teal and two buffelhead. Missed a few big body ducks but not bad for my first trip duck hunting by myself.
I'd try using a smaller spread and more water motion towards the end of the season. Nothing looks more unnatural that decoys sitting on a sheet of glass. Beyond that just get away from the pressure and find the spots where the birds feel comfortable
Where was this hunt? coastal NC? I’m from central NC and been hunting impoundments and there’s just way too many hunters around here. Was looking to get a kayak to get out on some lakes and expand my horizons. Just don’t know if it’s worth it here in central NC
@@andrewkrosefinancial5680 I appreciate the response! Was just curious as to whether or not it was more towards the coast. I love the videos and been watching to learn a thing or two as i’m still new to all this. Keep up the great work!
This was coastal NC, that's about as specific as I can get though. It's a fun area to explore but there is a lot of pressure down there during most of the season
This is why I hope we never see Sunday hunting in NC. Our seasons start earlier and are spread out because we do not hunt Sundays. Its still a 60 day season but we get to spread it out. SC guys come north to NC to hunt when their season is still closed. VA guys come south to NC to hunt because their season is still closed. Both hunt Sundays, NC doesn't.
Theres definitely pros and cons to it. It’s nice to have the season spread out a bit more but I feel for the guys who work M-F jobs and only get one day a week to hunt because of it
You guys killed that pair of the drake shovelor and hen wigeon, eliminating the possibility of the coolest hybrids ever! haha
North Carolina: voted “Best Carolina”by ‘North Carolina Magazine’ 234 consecutive years
That's exactly what she said that's a good looking shoveler.
Haha no doubt, might've messed up a cool hybrid pair there
We hunted the October early season western zone nc and saw only wood ducks. As a Virginia boy I love watching your content.
Thanks Karl! Seems like that's the usual for early season down there, hope some big birds start moving in for y'all soon! You gonna be hunting this weekend down there?
Next weekend probably. Hoping this front has pushed in some birds. October early season in Virgina was really good for us
Mista Hoke is always good for at least one wader swamp per hunt
Hey I stayed dry in ND! Except when I ran into barbed wire and turned my waders to swiss cheese..
Big like for the work you guys did to get to this spot, looks like a lot of fun
Thanks brother! It was probably the most challenged spot to access that I’ve ever hunted but we’ll worth the effort!
So great that the hard work you two did and the low expectations resulted in such a good hunt!

in south carolina we had blue wings and alot of woodies this early teal
Have the blue wings stuck around or did they head south already?
Woodies as always in the piedmont, good number of teal this year (at least for my area), have seen decent numbers of mallards and gadwall. Hoping to get on some bigger ducks in the morning.
Good luck in the morning! Let me know how it goes!

Love to hear that! Were you able to get out on Saturday?
What part of western nc? I hunt east tn and have a nc license this year
On the 21st we seen a couple hundred mallards in the western zone
Hell yeah! Gotta love those NC resident mallards, they’re a tough bird to fool but fun to hunt!
Great video buddy! You are an inspiration for us waterfowlers!
Thanks brother! I greatly appreciate it!
Thomas, I can’t get that damn sticker off my Walmart kayak paddle either 😂
Haha those things are so damn annoying! Seems like I always break the paddle as soon as it starts wearing off so I damn near always have one on there
First time ever getting on a video within 10 seconds. Man i really enjoy your content more than anybody else on anything. Keep it up dude
I appreciate you watching! Got some more MN and ND hunts coming soon!

Great vids! Always exciting seeing your name pop up with a new video to watch.

Hunted north central nc all 3 days of early season saw dozens of woodies.
Excited for tomorrow morning! Should be a good morning with these last couple days the lows being below freezing
How'd it go for you on Saturday? Seeing a new push of birds around?

Glad you were able to legally get on some public land coastal birds. The laws make it so tough for the average guy to hunt nc coast
Much appreciated! It’s tough to keep up with all the regs over there but we’ll worth it for the variety of birds you can find along the coast
I think its to late for me to start this year but im hoping to try duck hunting for the first time next year. Im somewhat close to lakenorman so I might try out there.
Love the hunts can't wait to get on some birds in Pa
Thanks brother! How are things looking up there?
@@HokeOutdoors couple days to hunt early October, few woodies some teal and the local mallards. Lots of Canadas though
Cool stuff as always Thomas.
Thanks Don!
Great video as usual. Thank you.
Much appreciated Nasser! I appreciate you watching!
Solid hunt.....Nolan should be right in the mix where hes at now. Youll havd to get out there if you can. 🙌🙌
Great hunt. Thanks for posting.👍
Thanks Jerry! I appreciate you watching!
Nice job fellas!
Thanks much!
Awesome video and a great hunt!
Thanks brother! I appreciate you watching it!
We went to lake highrock in nc and killed a 2 man limit of woodies
Glad to hear it! Have the woodies been pretty thick over that way this season?
Love you content please don't stop
Thanks Liam! I don't plan on stopping anytime soon, lord willing!

Man, cool hunt right there 👍🦆
It was a fun one! I appreciate you watching it!
Love your videos, but I gotta know what your mallard call is
Thanks Kyle! Not sure what call this was, I was prototyping some new stuff for DRC towards the end of the season
What choke and shells do u shoot it looks like u reaching out there and knocking them down
Always an Instant like from me!!
Thanks Brandon! I appreciate you watching!

I hunt public land only. When times get very pressured, do you have any tips? Change some spread?
I'd try using a smaller spread and more water motion towards the end of the season. Nothing looks more unnatural that decoys sitting on a sheet of glass. Beyond that just get away from the pressure and find the spots where the birds feel comfortable
Hey Hoke what choke are you using ? And what’s your preferred choke while duck hunting ?
Great hunt!
Thanks Ben!

I'm not going to disclose it to thousands of cyberscouting people, but this is on one of the public game lands east of I-95...I'll leave it at that.

Final Cut Pro
What gun camera do you use?
It’s a Shotkam

You youtubers need to quit shooting ducks it is low class
Lol make sure to click that dislike button twice!
What shells/choke do you shoot?
I was using a Carlsons light modified choke and 3 inch #2 shot, not sure which brand
