bluey1695 yeah the cap on fall damage is *supposed* TO represent terminal velocity, however because of the way the dice progression works you'd hit the cap of 20d6 while you're well below terminal velocity. Every DM I know houserules away the fall damage cap, and once actually mathed out what the proper cap should be (can't remember he exact numbers but it's hundreds of D6's, enough to massive damage instagib any dnd character.

When Vox Machina went to save them they found the demon and it had adorned itself with the kidnapped children to use as armour. Keyleth attempted to use thorn whip to dislodge one of the children and bring them to safety but due to a very unlucky dice role ended up accidentally snapping his neck in the process. Following this she was so devastated that she took a six month hiatus from adventuring to figure herself out. It's not like she disintegrated a kid for the laughs.

I thought the whole thing with her rolling a Nat 1 on an athletics/acrobatics check - causing her to catch her foot on a bit of rock while trying to jump across 6-7 feet of lava - made her want to make a character to avoid FALLING INTO LAVA ever again. XD
zedx50 I think you meant "vision" is seeing the cliff. Because even a three year old will see it and recognize what it is. From wiki: Wisdom reflects how attuned you are to the world around you and represents perceptiveness and intuition. Intelligence measures mental acuity, accuracy of recall, and the ability to reason. I'm pretty sure a medium score in either should be enough to make a person careful in front of that cliff or make him/her bale when potentially rocketing towards rocks.

I remember playing as this Wizard who owned a simple lumber jack ax but was VERY attached to it. At one point a stranger tried taking it and in rage and a really good roll I killed him on accident then one thing led to another and a small riot happened, I was putting up a REALLY good fight, and long story short I landed in jail. So yeah, it morphed into this mission to find a killer in the city to a Mission Impossible, break out of jail and find the original killer and hope that I either don't get locked up again or me and my friends don't get killed because I'm sort of a fugitive now.

The way you've laid this one out is just perfection. The eye, the diagram, drop down screen, the dice app, everything was crystal clear and delightful.
Yeah, the eye is a great conceit for the DM. So was putting the other players table talk in a thought bubble. Grog dropping down the projector screen to illustrate what happened was great, and was almost what Travis did.
This was the best possible way to start off an episode. Also, my favorite detail that always goes unnoticed is the little exchange between Sam and Taliesin. Sam: "You realize that goldfish aren't magnetically attracted to water, right?" Taliesin: "No, that's ironfish." XD
It's funny. When telling new players about death being a real possibility in D&D I *always* use the "I can't save you if you do something really stupid like jumping off a cliff" example. 😂
I haven't gotten to this part of the show yet, but this comment reminds me of a certain incident in RollPlay involving an airborne dragon, a free-falling ranger, and a ring of wishes.
It would be a rough superhero landing but very much doable. Can you imagine if a barbarian lands on a creature? He/she would instantly deal +300 damage, if they get a surprise round you're looking at another 80-120 damage and if they also win the initiative roll... yeah it's over.

I’m not up to date with Critical Role and I don’t know the exact context of why this character jumped off a cliff or what she’s capable of but I do have to ask, why didn’t she just turn into a seagull or something?
I got no idea, my guess is she thought being a goldfish would break her fall into the water? even if she was above water turning into a goldfish with that momentum, hitting water is like hitting concrete, she would've taken the exact same amount of damage.
You see Marisha has this mentality that is you only live once except the exact opposite. So she tries whatever she wants and pays less attention than anyone else with the gravity of situations.

Secondly, it's totally true to Keyleth's character, so she did the most correct thing she could have done in that situation. (other than going Keyteor)

Something that is hilarious in the original is that Liam is laughing his ass off and joking in the beginning, but quickly goes into a breakdown like "I'M STARTING TO SWEAT! I DON'T SEE IT!! WHO SEES IT!!"

You know something? No matter how many times I watch this, it never gets old. The sheer amount of thought process that Keyleth puts in before deciding on turning into a goldfish? Priceless.
I don't remember hearing it in this video - but my favorite part of this moment was when Marisha tried explaining why she chose a goldfish to turn into, rather than something that could fly - and one of them (I think it was either Sam or Travis) said something to the extent of "fish are not magnetically attracted to the water!" :P
My favorite part of this is the fact that GLADLY by chance Laura had an enchanted with „revivify“ coin given her by Sam. I mean, one thing is when characters revive a friend fallen in the battle with their contributions to the ritual. But how would you have a straight face if she died like this „Yeah sorry God, she had issues, but we love her anyway“. That could easily be a permanent-permanent death.
This is how technically how I learned that Vex had died. I was unaware of any member of Vox Machina dying before watching this and now I find out they all had died at some point. Granted this also indicates their deaths didn't stick. This fact slipped my mind when watching S2E3 of The Legend of Vox Machina. At the end I realized that I had indirectly heard of Vex's death.
Ok I had heard of this moment for so long, and I always imagined this happening during an epic battle in which Keyleth jumped off the cliff to escape or something, and hit the water as a fish (taking damage since being an aquatic creature doesn't negate falling from 1000 feet) Turns out this was way funnier XDD
The funniest part is, even if she had hit the water in goldfish form (which has 1 HP btw) falling form that height, she would still die instantly. Oh Kiki, you are the best! :D

Oh god I remember this, was laughing at her logic to do things. I always like how she thinks Gust is stronger than it is since it is just a cantrip. Gust of Wind might have launched her to safety. Her turning into a bird would have definitely would have saved her and then she could have just turned into a fish later to get the item. And her turning into an Elemental first would have probably gave her just enough hit points to not die die since I don't remember what her hit points were at then. Thank you very much for animating this. Will share this with a friend even if they don't D&D and watch Critical Role, they do love the animations though of their silly bits
She would have survived it without wild shaping into anything at all since the maximum fall damage you can take is 10d6, or 60. Because terminal velocity or something.
Yeah it is 20d6 but Matt seemed not to like that for the max fall damage or he forgot about it. Not sure considering it is a homebrew world with many homebrew rules. Falling damage not capping could have been one. Or it was for the God comment, to show who the true God was. I recall not if he ever replied to people yelling what max fall damage is. Since the rules are just a guideline and any DM can change them as they wish, just gotta stick with said change when it comes up again really to keep it consistent unless they honestly did not know what the actual ruling was and then go with the actual ruling. Lava damage being one of them once Matt found out what lava damage actual was.
Though a high level character should still be able to survive an impact at terminal velocity, unless in exandria you just keep speeding up until you hit the ground.
Normal falling rules yes. The damage that was dished out. Looking at their HP as of now if the Character Sheets on CriticalRoleStats is up to date(levels appear to be). Following massive damage rules where the remaining damage has to meet or exceed your maximum HP It would kill everyone in the party outright outside of Grog. He'd just fall unconscious. With normal falling rules and at max damage, the Twins survive it would a few HP to spare, Pike would just be left at 1.
This is my favorite one you've done. Everything about it is brilliant: the DM eye, the diagrams, the party in Keyleth's thought bubble... It's all perfect. Well done!

When I first started watching critical role this video kept on being reccomended to me, and i didn’t watch it because of spoilers but because of the title I thought it was gonna be a super serious video about how powerful vox machina had become and their legacy as heroes. Boy was I wrong.
I'm a bit sad that you didn't put in the part where Travis made the analogy of dropping a red velvet cake from 200 floors up. Or where Vex revives Keyeth and nearly throws up after watching her joints shift back into position. Also, why is Scanlan there, Tyrion was the one travelling with them at the time? Nevertheless, this is wonderfully done.
I know it's been years - but thank you so much for animating this! The pure chaos of this scene, and this particular video, showing up on my recommended videos was the final push that got me started watching Critical Role over two years ago now.

To be fair terminal velocity is a thing, though you probably wouldn't reach it after falling 210ft.
To be fair, reaching terminal velocity would splatter a man in armor like a bug on the windshield no matter how buff they are

Yeah, the eye is a great conceit for the DM. So was putting the other players table talk in a thought bubble. Grog dropping down the projector screen to illustrate what happened was great, and was almost what Travis did.
Though they didn't draw Keyleth smacking face down or alluded to how she straight-up lost her face.

It would be a rough superhero landing but very much doable. Can you imagine if a barbarian lands on a creature? He/she would instantly deal +300 damage, if they get a surprise round you're looking at another 80-120 damage and if they also win the initiative roll... yeah it's over.

I’m not up to date with Critical Role and I don’t know the exact context of why this character jumped off a cliff or what she’s capable of but I do have to ask, why didn’t she just turn into a seagull or something?
I got no idea, my guess is she thought being a goldfish would break her fall into the water? even if she was above water turning into a goldfish with that momentum, hitting water is like hitting concrete, she would've taken the exact same amount of damage.
You see Marisha has this mentality that is you only live once except the exact opposite. So she tries whatever she wants and pays less attention than anyone else with the gravity of situations.
Exisist well the *GRAVITY* of the situation turned her into a stain on the side of a rock.

No matter how many times I watch this, it never gets old. The sheer amount of thought process that Keyleth puts in before deciding on turning into a goldfish? Priceless.
I don't remember hearing it in this video - but my favorite part of this moment was when Marisha tried explaining why she chose a goldfish to turn into, rather than something that could fly - and one of them (I think it was either Sam or Travis) said something to the extent of "fish are not magnetically attracted to the water!" :P
My favorite part of this is the fact that GLADLY by chance Laura had an enchanted with „revivify“ coin given her by Sam.
I mean, one thing is when characters revive a friend fallen in the battle with their contributions to the ritual. But how would you have a straight face if she died like this „Yeah sorry God, she had issues, but we love her anyway“. That could easily be a permanent-permanent death.

This is how technically how I learned that Vex had died. I was unaware of any member of Vox Machina dying before watching this and now I find out they all had died at some point. Granted this also indicates their deaths didn't stick. This fact slipped my mind when watching S2E3 of The Legend of Vox Machina. At the end I realized that I had indirectly heard of Vex's death.
Ok I had heard of this moment for so long, and I always imagined this happening during an epic battle in which Keyleth jumped off the cliff to escape or something, and hit the water as a fish (taking damage since being an aquatic creature doesn't negate falling from 1000 feet)
Turns out this was way funnier XDD

The funniest part is, even if she had hit the water in goldfish form (which has 1 HP btw) falling form that height, she would still die instantly. Oh Kiki, you are the best! :D

Oh god I remember this, was laughing at her logic to do things. I always like how she thinks Gust is stronger than it is since it is just a cantrip. Gust of Wind might have launched her to safety. Her turning into a bird would have definitely would have saved her and then she could have just turned into a fish later to get the item. And her turning into an Elemental first would have probably gave her just enough hit points to not die die since I don't remember what her hit points were at then. Thank you very much for animating this. Will share this with a friend even if they don't D&D and watch Critical Role, they do love the animations though of their silly bits
She would have survived it without wild shaping into anything at all since the maximum fall damage you can take is 10d6, or 60. Because terminal velocity or something.
Or maybe it's 20d6? Keyleth could still take 120 damage.
Yeah it is 20d6 but Matt seemed not to like that for the max fall damage or he forgot about it. Not sure considering it is a homebrew world with many homebrew rules. Falling damage not capping could have been one. Or it was for the God comment, to show who the true God was. I recall not if he ever replied to people yelling what max fall damage is. Since the rules are just a guideline and any DM can change them as they wish, just gotta stick with said change when it comes up again really to keep it consistent unless they honestly did not know what the actual ruling was and then go with the actual ruling. Lava damage being one of them once Matt found out what lava damage actual was.
Though a high level character should still be able to survive an impact at terminal velocity, unless in exandria you just keep speeding up until you hit the ground.
Normal falling rules yes. The damage that was dished out. Looking at their HP as of now if the Character Sheets on CriticalRoleStats is up to date(levels appear to be). Following massive damage rules where the remaining damage has to meet or exceed your maximum HP It would kill everyone in the party outright outside of Grog. He'd just fall unconscious. With normal falling rules and at max damage, the Twins survive it would a few HP to spare, Pike would just be left at 1.

When I first started watching critical role this video kept on being reccomended to me, and i didn’t watch it because of spoilers but because of the title I thought it was gonna be a super serious video about how powerful vox machina had become and their legacy as heroes.
