  • Howdy ya’ll. In today’s video we will look at the oldest photographs of Jerusalem, dated to 1855 through 1862. These images come to us by way of Francis Frith, one of the leading, yet most mysterious, photographers of the 19th century. We will see countless examples of seemingly buried, weathered, and ruined architecture.
    However, we will also see amazing instances of photography, showcasing buildings which simply appear to have stood the test of time. I have gone through and labeled each image with the original title from Francis Frith. Enjoy, and leave your comments down below.
    Topics discussed today;

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem

      @@Elijah_Dove well yeah, but there also wouldn't be any chem trails even if there *were* planes, because you see, chem trails aren't real. they're contrails, so named because they're made of water condensed into ice crystals. spraying chemicals thousands of feet in the air isn't a very efficient delivery mechanism for said chemicals, because wind shear would make the "chem trails" drift drastically and eventually break up, which is what happens with contrails. they only happen so high up because of the low ambient temperatures of those altitudes. consider crop spraying or wildfire dousing, the aircraft flies at a very low altitude in order to actually hit the target

    The first photograph of Mount Hermon is absolutely epic, definitely my favourite.
    Unarguably the most mysterious place of them all, perhaps of the entire world I think, because the angels are supposed to have landed there way back in the time of Enoch, and also because it’s from there that Jesus was supposed to have been seen for the last time on earth.
    The place is heavily guarded on top where there are remains of an ancient temple, and right below it is what was called « the place of hell », from where the Jordan flows underneath, and there seems to be a vast network of tunnels and caves below that mountain, it’s just fascinating.
    Second favourite is definitely The View at Hebron, hard to describe how amazing that picture is and the biblical story attached to the place…
    In the mean time I just want to say I subscribed quite a few months back while watching your video of the Suez Canal and that you are awesome being dedicated to show pictures of the old world, there is no other channel like it and it’s definitely most needed.
    There is a similar video showing old pictures of Jerusalem that are more epic than these in my opinion but the quality is bad whereas in here the pictures are very high definition, you’ve done a great work of research, just keep it going, we cannot wish you anything other than having success for your channel to grow, and I think the topic at hand here will probably add a few hundred more subs…
    There is just no better way to see the holy land and to feel deeply about the Scriptures but when it was void of modern architecture. The landscape being so barren and so humble like that is so beautiful and so romantic, we can just feel the biblical significance of the place seeing these old pictures of that place

      I love your comment. I sadly don't have much time to share a lot of my own thoughts on this but regarding the humble architecture. This is somehow like I always pictured it and somehow I'm drawn more and more to the conclusion that something is very wrong with out age. I imagine that we were never intended to become this industrialized, technic oriented people.

    Somewhere around a year ago, when I was gripped with intrigue while flooded with timeless images taken generations before my time, a question arose of great importance to me, 'Could the Holy Land even be on this man's radar'? Silly me, why wouldn't it be?! But then, to hear you even speak in reference to the Bible...my continued faithful patronage is solidified indefinitely! Although too difficult a task in narrowing my favorite image here down to just one...I cannot seem to depart from the one taken of Bethlehem. While sitting here, video paused on this still image...I'm caught away to a distant Holy Land, 1858 years ago. And although this city certainly must have looked as differently nearly 2000 years ago as it does almost merely 200; in my mind's eye it doesn't really matter. A bustling city...further busting at the seams with weary travelers not so much because of the Feast Day, but of the King's census in Jerusalem, a handful or so miles away. No place to stay. The large room of the only contact we know is already overfull as anxious travelers are quickened in their spirits to find accommodations for those traveling with them. But just outside the city, a manger for the animals. This will have to do. The lowliest of humble accommodations, ushering-in the birth of the magestic splendor of the King of the universe, as He takes on flesh and enters the world that He created...to fulfill the only arduous mandated sacrifice worthy to redeem a fallen humanity with the infallible, Holy Almighty. Whew!

    These are so beautiful and telling. They confirm the contemporary descriptions of the area at the time called Southern Syria - run down, sparsely populated. The Zionists who returned to the place of their ancient ancestors did so legally and purchased empty dry land - made something incredible with it. The territory that became British Palestine after WWI was much improved by the Jews in the previous decades. The Arab population grew too during this time - most came to the area for better paying jobs. But who truly instigated growth in the area? The Jews. 2/3 of former British Palestine was given to Arab/Muslim "Palestinians" - that area is now called Jordon. What remained was then further divided into Jewish and Arab regions. Despite the tremendous loss due to a broken promise, the Jewish community accepted the small remains they were left with. But the Arabs weren't satisfied. They still aren't. They will never be satisfied until the entire region is under Muslim sovereignty once again. This is utter greed and selfishness displayed by sore losers of many wars.

We used to use this trick back in the day when we couldn't find the stereoscopic glasses or were too lazy to walk back to the archives for one photo pair. We even had a cool like 1995 version of the stereoscopic glasses that would work with circa 1990/2000 monitors but the old-school physical ones for photos were much better.

I have recently just started reading the scriptures and this topic and with all this new information that we did not have 20+ years ago, I personally had no problem revising my stance to this point of view. I thought we were waiting for the reign and 2nd coming and it seems it already happened. I don't know why so many are pushing back with a militant, you are a heretic attitude. Not saying it's all figured out, but with all this information this has to be strongly considered. It makes the scriptures make so much sense now. Especially when you considerd all these beautiful buildings around the world.

    The double images are not taken at exactly the same time because branches have moved, reflections on the water differ, and some of the shadows are sharper on one side. These photos were interesting.
    I noticed that the common roofs are flat. There are a few dome shaped roofs, and visible near a dome is a tower or a minaret.
    Is there a historical reason for these two types of architecture, as in a theory of an energy source? I know that the minaret is used for the athan or azan, a call to prayer in Muslim countries; but dome and tower combination is found in the America's too. I know of one dome and tower that does not fit the description of a place to pray. The dome is so small that it reminded me of a kiln.

    What's astonishing is how dry the land was and how run down, almost to ruin, the cities and towns were! One thing we have to keep in mind is that we're looking at what was then part of the Ottoman Empire, a declining and decaying empire that will come to a bad end just 60 years later.

    Beautiful work. I like added info we may not know. Always amazing for the time how built up cities were and adv architecture. So few humans? Quiet times of day? Curious if entire Frith collection really made avail or select ones held in secure place? Ancient text as whole w/myths, traditional knowledge etc as incl diff sources/views is interesting. Edit: Fave? 1:36 Gaza vs 9:39. City vs trees/mountains.✌️🙏

    The buildings make me think, How long have they been standing?
    They look like they've been patched-up and repaired to live in
    probably for hundreds, maybe even THOUSANDS of years.
    Some of the stone structures may have even been built by the CANAANITES!

    To watch 3D images with NOTHING other than the images on the screen, you have to use your eyes. I know it's not easy, but I saw the whole video in 3d (relief) with nothing more than my eyes and the screen. let me explain: you must first stand @1m from the screen with a 42" and not in full screen but in cinema mode in yt.. you must squint until you see three images instead of two and keep your eyes in this state without moving them, and there the image will appear in relief in the middle image. (it's a superimposed mixture of the two images..). I advise you not to move to keep 3 similar images and look at the one in the middle while ignoring the rest... and here is the technique for looking at relief without anything other than the photo. It's not easy and I don't know if it's good for the eyes to do this, but I've always done it, and it works. for the first test pause the image it will be easier.

    8:41 Hebron is nestled gleaming white amidst the hills...with a little imagination I can see a beautiful city of the past. Unfortunately, after viewing thousands of 'meltology' photographs I can perceive the extreme heat damage on many of the structures in these photographs. Also, the scattered blocks everywhere and the fallen walls...evidence of judgement. The lack of greenery, desert conditions, also evidence of judgment...and the 'flood' of soil covering many structures. It is difficult to grasp why the Lord called this a land that flowed with 'Milk and Honey'...it is a land judged. But, we have hope of ultimate restoration of all things in Christ. Thank you for these photos..a lot to ponder.

      @8022 Amen! I've been contemplating the verse from Ecclesiates...where Solomon says...In 3:14-15
      "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. That which hath been, is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past." This may be Why he requires the repeating of patterns in History...this is how he draws all men to himself. With each cycle there are those who recognize him, and those who continue in darkness. When the fullness of the Gentiles be come in...then, God will redo our earth...just pondering...not sure though. Grace and peace to you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Mont Serbal: I see the bearded man’s face wearing a crown looking upwards to heaven too. It’s in the second range of mountains from the back on the right of the photo. Rotate the image to the left so it becomes vertical and it’s plain as day: as if carved. It looks the Assyrian stele of King Samsi Adad V, other Mesopotamia Sumerian depictions such as Enlil, and there is a stele in the Berlin Pergamon Museum that looks similar, or like King David is depicted. Also similar to other mountain faces found elsewhere. There is one above Cusco Peru known as representative of Vericocha known as the Creator. Jesuits created the actual word God in order to convert during their missionary work in Peru, so it would be understood their Creator was the same Diety. It’s all connected. Noticing some of the ancient construction looks a bit similar to Peru as well, which is interesting. Also noticed a few castle looking structures, which is interesting. By the way some people are color blind and just because they too cannot see certain colors does not negate the fact that others can, because it is what is actual reality. Some do not see until someone else points it out what is right before their eyes, just because they don’t see it doesn’t negate what others do. God’s Blessings 🙏🏼🕊️

    Yes, Jerusalem was a ruin at that time. It had been for centuries. You know what the most interesting thing we see in these photos?
    Not lot of people. There is one shot with three people in it, and they were probably tour operators.
    That matches up with what Mark Twain said about the Holy Land when he visited about 20 years later. He said there were a handful of tour operators who guided Europeans back and forth, and other than that it was practically uninhabited.
