Welcome to my RUclips Channel Golf Blog! My name is Matt Williams. I'm an amateur golfer that has only been playing golf consistently for a few years now. Last year I was about an 18 handicap. I was a 16 handicap to start 2020, and now am down to an 8. I started this golf channel for a variety of reasons. 1.) To show viewers what I am doing and working on as I continue my quest to hopefully become a scratch golfer one day. 2.) To review golf clubs/equipment to give people a club review from an amatuer mid-handicap perspective. 3.) To share my ever-growing passion for this beautiful game we call golf. 4.) To just have a ton of fun on the golf course! I sure hope you find all my content useful, helpful, but most of all..... entertaining!
I just bought these DCBs and they are amazing. Beforehand, I watched a bunch of DCB reviews, and you were the only one I saw that discussed the grip. Let me say that the z-grip is the best iron grip I have ever played with. It feels so incredibly comfortable.
I got mine summer of 2021 and yes they send a ball down the fairway. Love them
oh man , I love your reaction to the carry distances
Good review Matt! I just got my DCB’s a few days ago, and I love them! Thanks!
Thats awesome! And thanks!
Watched this again and your hybrid iron review all excellent. I must say I will try this on your recommendation as I’ve always wanted as a high handicapper
A forged forgiving iron. Could be this and the Sim max2 O/S. The JPX921 hot metal good iron but other reviews in the UK have suggested more forgiving
Irons for the 24 handicapper. Keep up the great reviews and thank you!🇬🇧
Thanks again Seve. I can’t wait to hear what you think of them once you try them out.
@@MattWilliamsGolf loved trying the DCB along with T400 better than the Sim max2 O/S and JPX921 HM. Trying the D9 and Cobra Radspeed over the next two weeks and they are at a better price point should be interesting. Love Wilson and if they perform comparably at half the price will go for them.
What handi cap range are these for? I’m 66 been out of golf playing for about 8 years 9 hcp was my best. Slow swing speed now not in shape
Love your review ... very surreal and transparent ... you are bombing those irons ..I’m getting these soon
Thanks so much Rick!!!! Appreciate it a ton. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
Great review. I'm looking for something I can grow into. Something between a max forgiveness and a players iron and these might just be the ticket. Started in July of last year and have the bug. Playing 2+ times a week. Thanks again for the great review!
You bet Joel! You should definitely give these a look. Plus the PING G425 irons too.
Hi Matt...so refreshing to see and “meet” an average golfer.
I am in the process of being fitted for the first time and have also been testing lots of irons.
I’ve kind of narrowed it down to Srixon zx4 and this Calloway Dcb.
I would love to see a side by side of these two.
Any chance you could do that?
Thank you !
Vern
Great "REALISTIC" review...currently playing the Titleist AP1's and was looking at some new irons to try. I'm a 9-10 handicap and haven't decided between these and the Apex 21's. I know it's mainly about looks and feel and most importantly the person's swing, but which club would you recommend?
Nice review my guy. I went on a new iron set search to upgrade my CF17' Callaway Epics and ended up with the new Apex Forged 21's. I did hit the DCB's and while they went a country mile, i tended to be left with them way to much. The regular Apex had a better dispersion for me and the Apex Pro's i didn't even bother with. I also hit the Mizuno JPX921 series as well and two from Taylormade. The on regret i have is not hitting the Mizuno MP20 HMB's.
Yea I too hit the Mizuno JPX921...I could not hit them at all but when I go get fit for a new set of irons I will try them again. I also recently tied the Callaway Mavrik and Mavrik Max...both were giant hook sticks for me. The Mizuno MP20 HMBs look very interesting but I am not sure I have the game for them anymore. What are you sporting for a driver? I am looking to do a complete bag replacement cause my irons are 30+ years old and my driver/3 wood are 20+ years old.
@@markk171 Funny thing is my buddy who just started golfing got fitted for irons and hit all the typical clubs and he ended up fitting perfectly to the MP20 HMB's. I never consider Pro or Tour player irons when considering new clubs. I rock the Epic Flash line for Driver, 3 Wood and 3 hybrid and my irons go 5-AW with Mack Daddy 2 and 3 series wedges
@@scottrivkin3307 Yea I quit golfing about 15 years ago and about 6 months ago got the bug. I have been a range rat trying to get a swing going again. My clubs are currently Mizuno T Zoid blades (30+ years old)..the 7 iron is 35 degree loft and they are UNFORGIVING. My driver is a 20+ year old 9 degree Adams Tightlies 363 CC Titanium and it is pretty forgiving on mis-hits....but its 20+ year old!
@@scottrivkin3307 Wow, a few things to unpack here. First, let me start by saying thanks for the support!!! Secondly, yeah, the DCB’s are freaking rockets. It also doesn’t surprise me that you were pulling or hooking them a bit. They have a bit more offset, and that often tends to be the result. That said, those Apex have less offset, and are easier to perhaps control that dispersion. They are however, a bit less forgiving. Stay tuned, because later this week or early next week, I have a review coming where I compare the Apex (21), the Mizuno JPX921 Forged, and the TaylorMade P790. On another comment you mentioned your friend new to golf who was fitted for the HMB’s. That is shocking. My boys at TXG have mentioned it before: Not all fitters land people on the right irons. I would be absolutely blown away that someone thinks those irons are appropriate for a new golfer. I can’t go back and see what else you commented while typing (RUclips needs to fix that), but if I missed anything, let me know!
@@markk171 You mean, I get to council you through your entire bag????
Hey Matt, This is my first time seeing one of your videos. I very much enjoyed it being from a average golfer. What part of the country are you coming from?
At 62 years old I'm looking at these for my retirement sticks. I have just had a shoulder replacement along with a knee and hip earlier. I'm sure my swing speed will be slower. Always played a regular shaft but will step down to a senior flex. Perhaps an Apex combo set.
I’m a little older than you and had rotator cuff cleanup in December…i am also looking at clubs possibly senior flex also. I’m looking at this DCB and the Titleist T300.
HI Matt , what clubs are you currently playing ?
Well I currently have the old TaylorMade RSi2’s. But a switch is coming very very soon. Front runners include the TaylorMade P770, the Callaway Apex Pro, Srixon ZX5 and Titleist T200.
just ordered mine...hope they come in soon!
That’s awesome! I’m supremely confident that you won’t be disappointed. Check back in later after you’ve gamed them for a bit, and let me know how they are working out.
Hey Matt - have had numerous fittings and really cant decide between the DCB and the G425 - any thoughts?
I was debating between DCB and G425 for a while. Also had numerous fittings focusing on those two clubs.
In the end I pulled the trigger on the DCB’s. I don’t regret it for a second.
They feel so much better, and softer. DCB’s are Forged. Every time I take it to the range, I can’t stop smiling when I hit a good shot. I know how hard it is to find the right irons, and I feel like I couldn’t have made a better choice. I’d recommend the DCB’s over the g425.
you are doing great , we need more videos
Thanks so much John!!!!! Appreciate that a ton.
Great review Matt. Would you go with DCB or Mavrik for a 14 handicap?
DCB for sure. But as a 14, if you’re still improving, you might want to look at just the Callaway Apex (21).
@@MattWilliamsGolf thanks for the reply, I’m trying to get to a 10 ⛳️ I would think the Apex is a better quality made club as well.
@@dandunne-d5b Apex and Apex DCB are the same quality. Just built different to suit different swing characteristics. You can't go wrong with either. But I really think (without seeing you play or swing) that the Apex could/should be the iron you're looking at. Make sure its the '21 Apex.
Nice video. I like that you test more than just a 7 iron…seeing wedges on up is helpful to see. I’m an 11.5 and slowly moving down from an 18 last year and 14 at the beginning of the year. I’ve hit both the Apex and the Apex DCBs, and honestly feel like the DCB might be better. Curious why you suggested a 14 that is improving should be in the Apex vs DCB. I’m not at the level of working the ball, but if I just want something that goes straight with forgiveness, isn’t the DCB good enough? I couldn’t really tell much difference in feel.
@@MattWilliamsGolf I recently bought a set of the Apex DCB's 5 through wedge and find I'm gradually warming up to them but find the shorter clubs a little too lively for use around the greens. I bought the Apex A wedge and find that to be the better choice for that club on wedge shots and for pitching and chipping around the greens. So, I've ordered the 8, 9 and pitching wedge in the Apex and will go with a combo set, 5 - 7 in the DCB and 8 - a wedge in the Apex.
Just checked on the Callaway website...4-PW (no customization) is $1,295 US...OUCH!!! Question, I MIGHT be allowed (wife's decision...) to get a full bag replacement and fitting. I have been to Redtail in Beaverton to demo clubs. Have you ever been to Golftec? I live out on the Long Beach Peninsula in WA and I REALLY want to get fitted for new clubs. Thanks for Videos!
Ha, yeah, they aren’t cheap. RedTail is good. Club Champion in Tualatin is even better (although you have to pay for your fitting). I would tell you to make the drive down to Fiddlers Green. Seriously, amazing guys, great selection, and knowledgeable fitters. Oh, and great prices too (don’t look online, you have to go talk to them). I’d suggest that it will be worth the extra hour drive down there. Tell Raymond that I sent you. He will make sure you’re totally dialed in.
These clubs aren't for you if price is a consideration. Try Wilson, Tour Edge, or Robin on for price.
@@midnight4109 Eh, that’s pretty unfair. Price is almost always a consideration for golfers of all income levels and playing ability.
@@MattWilliamsGolf Yes and there are lots of choices.
Great information Matt. I play Callaway Mavrik irons and these look like the new irons which just might have to crash into my bag. Would you go with the Elevate shaft or the KBS Max 80 shaft? I realize that is subjective as I have the Max 80 in my Mavrik irons and like it. But not afraid to try something different.
You can’t go wrong either way. True Temper Elevate is more specifically set up for Callaway irons. But I also game KBS myself. So really, you can’t go wrong either way. Before you buy them, I would try them out with both and see if there is a significant difference for your swing between the two. I will say, I bet you enjoy the DCB more than the Mavrik irons.
@@MattWilliamsGolf I think that you are right. The look is great. My Pro has the demo 7 iron, I will ask him to hook up the shafts.
Great review just a shame that Titleist,Callaway, and Taylormade are so expensive here in the UK. This gives Wilson, Cobra and Cleveland a great opportunity. As a senior high handicapper not sure pricy clubs will transform your game , lessons will!
Would love to see you test Cobra T rail, Wilson Launchpad, and Cleveland HB Launcher Turbo against each other nobody has tested all three against
Each other, and these are the only five star or gold for forgiveness.
Very very interesting suggestion Seve. One thing I will say is that given how new my channel still is, it means that I need to focus on doing reviews that appeal to the broadest range of audience possible. That said, I’ll see what I can do for you! It would be fun to do something that caters to seniors and people who need the most help possible with launch and forgiveness. Make sure you SUBSCRIBE, and hit the bell for Notifications, and I’ll try and put something together in the coming weeks.
Good job, looking forward to seeing more videos
Thanks a ton MJ!
Great review, I am sold
Awesome! Thanks!!!!
Would u recommend these irons for a 20-25ish handicapper?
Absolutely!!!!!! No doubt!
@@MattWilliamsGolf appreciate it man, gonna go try them out and if I like them I’m ordering!
@@MattWilliamsGolf I also feel like I hit my irons fairly well if I can dial my putting and chipping more I think my handicap realistically would be 10-15
@@ryderbyus4729 Even at 10-15 you’ll love these. And yes, I have found that as my short game goes, so too does my over all scoring.
Excellent review Matt
Thank you so much!!!!
Your short game must need work, you are way better than a average golfer with the distance and consistent swing …thanks for the review
Great video
8 handicap is not average
Haha, I think that’s a compliment. But I suppose it’s a lot closer to average than most of the club reviewers out there. Especially considering that I still don’t think my swing mechanics match my handicap.
@@MattWilliamsGolf you have good ball striking skills, I am not so lucky, I manufacture a lot of shots with my decision making and philosophy of take what it gives you, my biggest issues are chipping the worst and good ball striking with irons
Try wearing golf shoes instead of running shoes so you don’t look like your on roller skates.
Those are golf shoes buddy.
8 HANDICAP ? REALLY?????
Dude trying to says he's too good for these Irons..BUT he can't hit them anyway 😂😮😢
Plus 8 is absolutely not an average golfer
