My archaeology teacher sent me to do a report on a tetsubin display at a local museum. I was very dissatisfied, because the tetsubin were displayed as art objects, lovely and well-made, but with no explanation. Archaeology is the study of an object within its context; the "why", the "how", and as Nobuho-san's comment is translated, the "interest". This very beautiful video was what I needed to study well; it is also a wonderful experience. Domo arigato.

Unfortunately I see far to many knock off iron kettles being sold with the enamel coating. It's really nice to see true tetsubin being made still. I purchased a used chagama from a second hand store in Japan with the intention of using it to heat me tea water. I haven't done so as it's not very practical to use. Having a nice tetsubin would be a joy. I am really interested in tasting the "sweetening" effect myself.
It's not really a knock-off, as long as it clearly says what it is: tetsu-kyusu. Tetsu kyusu is fine for brewing tea in it, just not for boiling water. But yes, a real tetsubin is a cool thing. Too bad they are so expensive:)
@@PathofCha A yes, I should have made the distinction. I meant during my search for a true tetsubin. I own a couple enamel coated pots myself. I was trying to find a true tetsubin of Japanese origin that was uncoated though. That's how I came to own my chagama with bronze brazier.
@@OldTeaHead Lucky you to have one:) Yes, I should buy me one as well. It will do great over the charcoal fire from the Chaozhou stove.
