  • In this weeks video we fish our first day of the 2018 Wahoo Shootout. It was rough and windy but we toughed it out and found some nice Wahoo while high speed trolling with big baits.

      Hey buddy, I have an interesting question, would you or someone experienced be interested in joing a tournament in Belize in 2020? Out of San Pedro ambergris cayes, Grand caribe tournament, prizes will be around 40k usd, and not too many participants. I've got the boat and captain (Donzi 35 ft). Let me know if you or someone experienced interested!

    All the bad weather brings bsut in closer. Rough weather bigger fish. I got on my small 20 Ft with 225 on 4 to 6 n bigger. Someone has to be on the wheel at All times. U can flip. Great job.

    Once again, a great video. Enjoyed the little details I picked up, i.e. 48 oz in-line weight, the types of lures you used, speed you trolled at, etc.

    Enjoyed the video. What reels and rig setup were you using? Where do you tether the ends to stay out of the way. I noticed you didn’t slow to reel in the fish. Are those 2 speed reels? Thanks for the video and sharing. Sub here.

    bad gaff right in the body, a good gaff is always in the head, if you gaff the body , that means you gotta learn how to gaff!! good video!!

      John Surf next time you go out let’s see you gaff one in the head. I don’t think you go offshore much or even been out 9 miles or more try and make friends with people maybe they’ll take you out sometime but leave the know it all attitude at home or better yet change your attitude 🤪 maybe sometime you too can catch a wahoo. Respect all captains bro.

      John Surf Yeah you’ve never tournament fished haha. You can’t risk gaffing the leader up at the head when you’ve got 3 feet of solid body behind it... I’ll gladly cut a half inch out of my meat where the gaff shot was to have a chance in the tournament.

      @@georgepena9927 I caught thousands of ono!! But we don't gaff the body always head gaff, if you gaff the body, it's just bad.Most of the time we just lift the wahoo in the boat and if you gonna gaff you better gaff the head or you not going on that boat ever agin, I fish Kona, the super bowl of deep sea fishing in the world! all year round aggressive wahoo bite way inside less than a mile out,wahoo in Hawaii dime a dozen all year round! It's considered a small fish in Hawaii. So we usally just lift it over the gunnel.If you body gaff you one scrub no one gonna let you on their boat.May be their where you at it's ok, in Hawaii they gonna wanna throw you over board!!

      @@macschultz2012 Never lost a ono or whoo on a head gaff!My Hawaiian Mango plug won the international Bill fish turnament in 2015, just a small blue nothing serious.If you body gaff a fish in Hawaii you gonna be marked as a scrubb and no one gonna want to fish with you or let you on their boat.I fish the super Bowl of deep sea fishing in the world, Kailua Kona, big fiish not like the minnows you catching, we don't even gaff wahoo most of the time we just lift it in the boat 90% of the time some well over 60 lb.I have giants under my belt!!We use whole wahoo for bait in Bill fish turnaments if the marlin over 500 pounds.

    Which line do you have it? Mono / braid / cable. ?

    • @ReelHazardous
      @ReelHazardous  6 лет назад

      Its mostly braid with a couple mono lines. I generally use cable as the leader only; not on the mainline. Let me know if you have any other questions!

      @rogerdefreitas5985 6 лет назад +1

      I'm going to Marathon FL in 15 days and I'm bringing my Avet 50W/2speed, it has 120lb braid on it. I'm planing on using high speed lure from RJ Boyle with 32oz led weight and shock leader I guess that would do it but I'm naive to wahoo fishing.

    • @ReelHazardous
      @ReelHazardous  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah that's pretty much the same setup I have. That will be plenty. I'll try a 64oz weight with a 16oz lure at 16 to 17 mph easily.

    If you body gaff a fish in Hawaii no one would want you on their boat, only head gaff or heart gaff but no body gaff, very good video good action!!!
