Liszt Transcription of Ludwig van Beethovens Pastorale is a wonderful but extremely challanging piece to play. Through out the whole transcription Liszt stays "true to the text", which means that the piece can easily sound repetitive when played by a single instrument. In the original by Beethoven the theme is played in variations by the different instruments of the orchestra. In the transcription the pianist has to imitate these different instruments to develop different colors.
Hirtengesang means “singing of the shepherds”.
