  • My mother in law wasn’t doing so well. She has been very unwell even now. So, this is what we have been making.
    I have used Gobindobhog Rice for the congee, but you may use any short grained rice of your choice.

    Never seen raw turmeric or ginger used like this in phena bhaat. I want to try this out. Will be good for the cold too.

      In earlier times our mothers used to cook with kancha holud bata only! The same concept of holud as an antibiotic n anti inflammatory

    never put ginger in cold water. It gets bitter. Always put it into roaring water (learned this after making a very expensive mistake hence I felt the need to put it here as soon as I saw you throwing the pieces in the room temp water T_T)

    I remember Doobydobap did a video on congee and she mentioned that all asian countries have their own version of congee and I remember commenting that Bengal(located in the east of India) and Bangladesh have their own congee which we call phyana bhaath! Best paired with potato mash and soft boiled eggs and a teaspoon of melted butter!

      Salt too she added ..and is traditionally added. She shallow fried it as its healthier. Traditionally it is deep fried. Called begun bhaja in bangla.

      Sesame seeds. Please use them carefully. They sputter so much, they might get into your eyes.
