i get that the dynamic between them is supposed to be awkward, but to me maguire’s delivery comes off to me as taking a dip compared to his usual performance for the rest of the film rather than it coming off as good acting; in my view it’s unrealistic how stilted it feels at points
@@chokstt i get what you mean. acting out awkwardness without it looking like an awkward attempt at looking awkward is difficult. oftentimes i feel people mistake that "awkward attempt at looking awkward" as a successful attempt at just being awkward outright. a common analysis of the 3 cinematic spidermen is that tobey was a good peter, andrew was a good spiderman, and tom does both (or neither lol). i HARD disagree with a lot of that but what do you think? (i think that comes from people thinking andrew is too cool for peter because he skateboards or something but like wtf)
@@chokstt call it nit picky but since its only on a 10 point scale, id say at LEAST 7.5. in all fairness, the score is probably inflated because of my general view of superhero movies nowadays and how they have to be so grand just to get attention. basically think about the first tobey maguire spiderman or iron man 2008. they didnt need multiverse or planet-threatening villains to still be interesting. back to the points, if someone argued even as high as an 8.5, that wouldnt be far fetched imo.
I understand your reasoning behind a 7.5, but I disagree. I keep track of most of my scores, so that likely plays a factor in my ratings. Relative to some of the other scores I’ve given, I thought Spider-Man would fit nicely at a 7. Quite frankly, I don’t think this film contends with Iron Man at 7.5, and I definitely don’t think it contends with something like Sing Sing at 8. If someone said 8.5, I’d think they’re off their rocker, because as good as this is, I don’t think it holds a flame to something like They Cloned Tyrone. I think putting Spider-Man higher than a 7 would perhaps make my general score for films higher, and I don’t necessarily like the idea of being closer to 10, as for me that indicates near perfect cinema.

1) um actually i said near perfection! 2) what makes you say oldboy isn’t a 10? to me it’s a well crafted film with great dialogue, cinematography, and acting; it has a plot i deeply enjoy that i think is paced great

gotta rewatch all of them, but i agree with the maguire and garfield analyses for the most part
