I was the same age as these kids in 1983, this show is super accurate about nobody paying any attention to where their kids were at any hour of the day or night. lol
Yep. I’m about a year younger. Once four or five of us were actually lost in the woods for 2 hours and no adult ever knew.
Can confirm. I was 9, gone literally all day with friends on bikes through the 80s.
My brother who was born in 1984, loves this show because of how they get so many of the dynamics such as letting your kids just randomly run around. You set a deadline for home and they are there by then other wise you’d regret. Whether, taking away privileges other times grounding to an ass wooppin’ 😂couldn’t track your kids all day with a phone back then. Not everyone could afford a baby sitter. Especially with a one side parent income. It pretty gnarly the things parents worry about that is as children didn’t consider and or parents trusted their kids in those times.
The triangle of contact is what is taught so much today. Make sure you are in contact and a friend pace with service to let at least a few people know. Give updates. All on cell phones now.
Back then. Trust was different. Culture was different.
Most people in those days didn’t lock their doors. A lot of Europeans today ask Americans why it’s a thing “why do Americans all lock their doors?”

will did everything right. he went straight home. even in the face of danger. locked the door. called for help. and when he made that realisation no one could save him. he took a shot gun and hid in a quiet place to defend himself. he did everything right yet he still got taken. i love joyce when she says “what about the 1%?” with that desperate intuitive urgency
Will wasn’t holding a shotgun. It was a rifle, likely a .22 caliber. He loaded it with bullets not shells.

Then they complete destroyed his character and reduced him to just being clingy to mike....and now they made him a "pride member" person, smh. He had so much potential. Would have been cool seeing him and eleven interact in s3 since they both went through the same thing and etc. He shouldn't just be second to mike always, Will has always had Protagonist energy. Why have the writers forcibly kept him down, it's an actual travesty especially since Noah Schnapp is more than capable as an Actor.
The year this series started, they had an “ugly” Christmas sweater at Target that had the Christmas lights and the alphabet and when it was triggered it lit up “run” just like in the show. I still regret not buying it.

@@Average_Brad the funny thing is he was originally suppose to be a villain for just one season and then be gone, but everyone liked the actor so much they rewrote his character to be a good guy so he could stay around.
Took a while to grow on me, but he turns out well.

Little Trivia about the show. The creators of the show (Duffer Brothers) went to 15-20 networks and pitched their show to them with no takers until Netflix said yes. I saw the show the week it came out and had to stop myself from watching since I knew my wife would really dig it.
It’s really cool that Winona Ryder and Mathew Modine are in the cast since they were actors during the time the show was set.
Just goes to show these major network's CEO's are totally braindead and have been for some time. It's why they do nothing original. It's all remakes and reboots.

Season 1 of Stranger Things is absolutely peak television. The other seasons will always be in season 1's shadow
Sorry, disagree. When Max comes in, she really adds something to the show, and the best episode happens in season 4.
@@spirittammyk I love Max she's my favorite character, but the later seasons have no real stakes. The main cast is safe 100% of the time, no one ever dies.

This is a FANTASTIC show. So glad you'll watch it! It's very accurate in that grown-ups and kids really lived in separate worlds in the 80's. Parents cared, but you had much more FREEDOM!

I've said it before, and saying it again; Hopper's strength is that he always has a backup plan if the first doesn't work. The weakness is that his backup plan is always punching someone in the face.

This show is a perfect example of why things changed so much since then and parents keep an eye on their kids more than then. Because parents know they stuff that they were up to and how things can go wrong. That they kinda wish that their parents kept a better eye on them.
It's such a great first episode. Gives just enough information to understand just enough to get hooked right away. Will did everything right. Hopper doing some good police work. Eleven showing some powers. The shady lab crew.... Superb story telling

I was born in 88, but some of these moments in this show really remind me of when I was 12 in the year 2000. When the street lights came on we went home. But not a moment before!!! We rode our bikes to different cities and broke into abandoned buildings to organize the chaos!! Or traveled to these distant lands to infiltrate rival school yards and tag them!! It was dangerous, probably, but we didn't know that and our parents sure didn't care. I stand by my theory that Millennials are the true lost generation. Unwanted by those before and after us. This show feels so nostalgic, our closest confidante's were our friends, our best friends, who's parents were a similar blend of parental regret as our's were. As Stephen King said in Stand By Me: "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"

My friend Andy and I used to play games of Monopoly that would last multiple days. We'd keep the board set up in my basement til it was done. He was also the ultimate 007 Golden Eye player. Every one would give him their copy of Golden Eye for the Nintendo 64, and he would go through the whole game and beat all the levels for you so you would have all the unlocked characters and weapons available for the multiplayer gameplay.
