Mr J -Rod! I have been watching your content all day long and I just wanted to thank you for inspiring me like crazy today, I have been blown away like I haven’t been in years. Thank you 🙏🙏🔥
Still love those hi hats!
J Rod, I think the Ebony Emperor "Suede" tom heads are very overlooked. They are amazing.
the experience and the wisdom to share it. thanks, j-rod!
My dude 💪. You definitely keep those toms sounding right. Helps so much with mixing! Be safe bro.
Yea! back at it, you''re the man!
That's amazing mahn💪
Great information, love your style 😀
Had no idea moving the drum dot changes the tone of the drum and the towel hack gave the floor tom that nice thud. Safe travels and I can't wait for the snare video. #gotpocket?
J rod Sullivan I love the sound of those circle round things to make the tom toms and the floor toms different sounds and tuning them.
Thank you! Can’t wait for the snare and Bass drum video!
Those two are the easiest to tune cuz the snare you can tune it how ever u want once the bottom head is tight
Very comprehensive and engaging bro. Great video.
Great vid and dedication for getting this vid out from Dubai. Good looking out. Looking forward to seeing the Kick and Snare tuning vids. Keep in Coming J-Rod 🥁🥁 #sub4lyfe
Good insight bro. Thanks
Awesome 👍 Thank You so so much..!
💪🏽🔥 Thank you for sharing
That was awesome bro.
The towel really isn't a bad idea ... Especially for hip hop floor tom gotta sit. 💯

Thanks bro! I’ll have to try that!
Sounds Cool
Learnt something new 👍
Sounds nice
DOPE CONTENT. I was freakin out thinking it was the kick drum episode lol
Nice vid I see u use audix mics me as well
YEEEES SIR !!!! Mr. J- rod not sure if my question has been asked before ( new subscriber here ) . When you tune yours toms, is the top heads tuned high and bottom low or are the equally balanced ? I have been off the throne for a few years and now back on the seat so looking for the tones you have achieved. Thank you for your information.
Always dope! Can you do one on your recording setup ?
Coming soon!
🔥🔥
Really enjoy watching your videos bro! Which kind of Remo heads are those, and are they what you would recommend for recording purposes?
Thanks, man! I have clear Ambassadors on the bottom and clear Vintage Emperors on the top. Yes I’d recommend these for studio and live. These are what I prefer in most situations. I live the tone but also how durable they are.
@@JRODSULLIVAN Thabks for the video man. Truly appreciate it. I would love to purchase the correct ones you use or recommend. I hope it isn't too much to ask for a link to the proper drum heads, please.
Wow👏🏽👏🏽❤
Can you do a video on rudiments ?
Hi, am new year l want yo now how your hands are so fast.

@@JRODSULLIVAN can we get a vlog like a day in a life with j rod how you mentally and physically get ready for a gig what are your strategies
Thanks for this bro…. What would you consider too many drumdots? Just curious as to why you would use the towel method vs adding more dots.
I add as many drumdots as needed to get the sound I’m looking for. If the drumdot doesn’t enhance the sound of a particular drum, I remove it (which is why I removed it from my 8in tom in this video).
As far as the towel method, the long sustain is coming from the resonant head, not the batter head. I use this method on the resonant head because when I add Drumdots on the bottom (outside the drum) they tend to fall off if they have any debris on them. I only do this for my floor toms. I rarely have this issue with my rack toms because I want them to sustain a bit longer anyway.
The other solution would be to put the drumdots inside the drum on the resonant head. However, if I already have the tones I want from the drum and I don’t have much time to remove the heads and re-tune them, I use the towel method. That is why I use the towel most of the time. It’s more convenient for me and does the job.
What’s good bro, the drums were my intro into the music world, im a multi instrumentalist like yourself. I’ve been in a lot of dampening situations. My question is, in your opinion which gets the job done in a better way? Drum dots or moon gel?
I think they both work equally well. However, I like Drumdots the most because they work well as new after washing them with soap and water. They also don’t melt.
I love your videos bro... Big fan but in a case where I don't have the drum damper, and I definitely can't hang towels all around my toms, is it aright to cut out that exact size from a gaff tape and use? Or what do you suggest?
Yes Gaff tape will work 👍🏽 Also, I only use the towel method for my floor toms.
The vid actually starts at 2:56
Ey bro quick question, what drumsticks do u use?
Vic Firth 5A Barrel as my main stick
What plugins do you use for your Tom’s?
Doing a mixing video soon to explain all of this 👍🏽
Hi Jrod,
What could be an alternative to use?, cause drumdots are not yet available for sale in my Country.
Try the clear moongels by Rtom 👍🏽

Hz in tune bot?
Second 🔥🔥🙌😅
Great video! Would it be safe to say that one's top or bottom head should have low sustain to avoid using drum dampeners? Your drums always sound great with or without dampening. Much Love sir.
Thanks! Not necessarily. You have sustain and natural overtones from the drum. Both are reasons for me to use dampening if either are distracting in the mix. It depends on the situation. You may not need dampening for a particular song (when recording) or live gig. I only use it when a drums tone needs to be controlled/focused. Make sure your drums sound great raw first (tone wise) then use dampening if needed to control long sustain or natural overtones. That’s my process.
What sizes are your kit
Listed in the description 👍🏽
J Rod please can I get this track 🙏 🙏🙏
It’s available here (Drumless Tracks Tab) 👍🏽 hoo.be/jrodsullivan
Can anybody help me in the comments A paradiddle is RLRRLRLL, So what would it be called if you did LLRLRRLR ?
A reversed paradiddle
Hey bro how do you tune your 8"?
Check out my tom tuning video. I go through the entire process. Link in description 👍🏽
How tight do you have the top and bottom head?
@@andrewchaney242 For the reso head, I turn each lug approximately two full turns before making sure each lug is in relative pitch with each other. For the batter head, about the same (more or less). However, try not to focus too much on how tight each head is. Focus more on the sound. Depending on the tones you’re going for, this could change.
@@JRODSULLIVAN thanks bro good advice
Hey man, do you have a tutorial or lesson page? If do, please send me a link. Thanks.
