Thank you for sharing this. Probably the best instructional on basic hook making that I've seen so far. Made a pair of (almost) matching ones this afternoon. I'll be making more very soon.

I never thought of using a longer piece to be able to hold it with your hand 😮
    This is awesome 😎

This is an awesome and helpful video. I'm new to blacksmithing.
And this is cool project regardless.
    But it's simple and intimidating.
    Thanks alot

Nice! Can I ask, what dimension stock did you use?

There's a chicken an egg problem when you start smithing. Nowhere near enough skill or tools to forge tongs, and finding a set of 6mm v-bits online to hold stock. So what i had to do was buy 8mm v-bit tongs, make hooks etc with 8mm stock and then after many goes and watching @Phoenix Forge make a pair of round bar tongues about 20 times I finally have a set to make 6mm stock hooks lol

Ever hear about these breaking off? Lately I've been doing a flat taper instead of the shoulder, never liked how thin things get when you shoulder in 1/4" round, may just be overkill though.
