Thanks for this Molly! Did you know that there's an Airbnb Bookshop in Wigtown known as 'The Open Book' where you can stay and run their bookshop! It's so popular that it's fully booked for the next 2 years! 😉
What a loveley video! I'm fan of Wigtown and have visited it 2015 first only one day, but then 2023 and 2024 for a week. It's worth it. Landscape, town, bookshops, Cafés ... Much to do. And especially a very good place for reading and get to know more about the town and about the people making it such an interesting place! ❤
Hi, I was in Wigtown last fall! (2023) had my "bucket list" trip to the UK with my sister and we rented a car specifically to be able to go to the last weekend of the festival plus, I really wanted to meet Shaun Bythell after reading all of his books. It was lovely. Probably one of the best days of my life. We stayed at the "Booktown Bunkhouse" which is a quirky little place (cheap!) and visited as many bookshops as we could. I live in Alaska and my sister lives in Spain and we met up in London. I want to go back to Scotland and Wigtown so much! I loved visiting with people there. Enjoyed your vlog, thanks
We used to live near Lockerbie so visited that area often. It is really beautiful there. I wish Wigtown had all those bookshops when we went there in the early 1980's!! Must try and get up there sometime.
Lovely to see Wigtown in a YT video! I used to live near Stranraer, further on down the A75, but had to move away for work. I visited Wigtown quite a few times, and been in all the shops in the video (love the Emporium!). I even fitted a kitchen once into one of the houses down the street Cafe Rendezvous is on. Speaking of which,I think the nicest Americano coffee I've ever had was there. Lovely place. Such a shame the garden centre down the bottom, near the old Wigtown town hall had to close. But as you say there a re realities to living in such a beautiful place as that.
I love this town. I have been a few times after reading the owner of the bookshop Shaun Blythell books (diary of a bookseller etc). His books are funny and an insight into working in a bookshop.
Why haven't I been to Wigtown? I had my second year work placement for LIS in Hawick in The Scottish Borders, so I'm surprised that I never went... Hopefully I will go there one day.
What lovely bookshops you have. Especially the old ones. I can imagine spending my time there. The view from your place is lovely. Thank you for taking us along👍
Loved Wigtown when I went a couple of years ago. The Bookshop is great for a browse. Was Captain the resident cat still there? Shaun Bythell the owner is instrumental in organising the book festival and is an author himself. You might find yourself in one of his books which are diaries of a bookseller.
As an Australian & a bookseller I've been wanting to go to Wigtown for ages, after reading the owner of The Book Shop's books! Your video conveys the town so well & only reinforces my want to visit one day!
Another fantastic video Molly with a vist to Wigtown or maybe it should be renamed Booktown. Love 🥰 the video and Wigtown is the ideal place for Molly to visit. Love 💞Molly.
Thank you Molly, really enjoyed the tour of Wigtown. We have never been there or indeed heard of how famous it is for it's bookshops. I really like the old buildings and of course all of those books! We will have to go on holiday there!!
All I can say is that this town is now on my bucket list as it is amazing and brilliant love it and love your brilliant channel prayers and blessings for you and your family love your Aussie family friend John 🧡🧡🧡please stay safe and healthy too
Thank you for taking us on this adventure with you! I loved the bookshop reviews and seeing your Airbnb! Now I have to add Wigtown to my list of must sees -- that surrounding countryside is gorgeous!
Looks like a wonderful trip Molly! As a fellow book lover this is now on my list of places to visit, thank you for sharing! I just love the smell of old books and old buildings. And the landscape looks beautiful too ❤
Wigtown is a nice little place but every time we've visited the whole place seemed too be closed! Nice coastal walk if you go to the bottom of the square and down the lane past the church. Tried to talk the other half into buying a small holding just further round the coast from there - still regretting my failure on that one 😄
What a lovely trip! The airbnb looks really cosy. I read Eleanor Oliphant a little while ago , someone passed it on to me and I had it around for ages as I didn't think it was my kind of thing, then I picked it up and found it quite hard to put down! We've got a Brittany book town near us called Becherel, which does a monthly fair with stalls outside every month. It's OK, there are some English books, some tea rooms and other craft type shops, it never seems to quite make it though. Perhaps I need to give it another try.
Hi Molly! Eleanor Oliphant came to me via a friend recommendation and I loved it! Im not sure if Gail Honeyman has written other books since then: I'm almost afraid to check because that one was so great, anything after might be a disappointment! Would be interesed to hear what you thought of it.
Oh no lol, please Don't say that to the Scots! I'm guessing you aren't from the UK. Scotland isn't England. You'll be forgiven I'm sure but check your geography before you visit or you'll get some hard looks.
What a lovely tour of Wigtown! I visited several years ago and like you Molly was very taken with the book shops. However, Wigtown has a darker history. In 1685 two women were executed for their faith, tied to a stake in the firth and left to die when the tide came in. You can see the spot where this happened. Despite the charm of Wigtown this rather coloured my visit.
Thanks for this Molly! Did you know that there's an Airbnb Bookshop in Wigtown known as 'The Open Book' where you can stay and run their bookshop! It's so popular that it's fully booked for the next 2 years! 😉
Yes, and it's great!

It really is the best smell :)
Recently read The Wolf Border by Sarah Hall. Can recommend, especially after Andrew Painting’s Regeneration
Oh thank you for the recommendation!
Wigtown is a nice little place but every time we've visited the whole place seemed too be closed!

Oh what a shame! I guess I was lucky as everything was open for the festival :)
Wigtown looks like a wonderful day trip. Thanks for the Merryn Glover tip. I’ve added her book The Hidden Fires to my TBR.
It really was! :)
We went to Wigtown during our holiday in the summer, we loved it. Bought far too many books 😂 can I ask which shop you bought the mug in? X
It was actually in the Wigtown Festival Company shop. They had a small range of lovely mugs :)
