Ms. Audra McDonald's performance is sublime. She sings with such incredible majesty and raw emotion. Norm Lewis performed this role with such tenderness and passion.
What truly talented people can do with a brilliant score and concept, and in a studio-type setting! Singing and acting as you rarely find it. I'm an Audra fan, but she never fails to surprise me with the range of her overall talent.
I was fortunate enough to see Audra McDonald and Norm Lewis two Saturdays ago on Broadway. The show was the best musical I have seen in a long time. The chemistry was amazing! This performance is almost as good as seeing them live. Thank you!
SUBLIME!!! Both gave an outstanding performance of this classical piece from Porgy and Bess!!! As an Opera Singer, I was humbly impressed and elated to see and hear this performance...Job Well Done!!!!!!
I never thought I'd see a rendition of this song to rival that of Leontyne Price and William Warfield, but Audra and Norm give me chills they are so powerful, emotional, and together with and for each other.
Robert Guillaume was the first African American man ever to play the role, wasn't he? Norm Lewis is the first to play it on Broadway, which is still a really big deal.
***** I wasn't referring to Porgy and Bess. Norm Lewis was in the revival. I may be behind the times, but I am we'll aware of the fact that Norm Lewis wasn't the original Porgy. What I was saying was that Norm is the first African American actor to get the role of the Phantom on Broadway and that Robert Guillaume was the first ever African American to play the role period.
What great singers! I love the singing of both Audra McDonald and Norm Lewis. Congratulations to Audra McDonald on her 5th Tony Award for Best Actress In A Musical. I published a blog post that features this video & four other videos of Audra McDonald singing. Google Pancocojams Videos Of Vocal Performances By Audra McDonald Thanks again!
What the hell has happened with Gershwin music, what an awfull arrangement ... Second thing, it has been written to sing with pharase, line, like belcanto not as recativo with shouting like on these video ...
@@maestromuffin1 sorry buddy, this is not music written by Gershwin, strange arrangement with weird acceleration on the "morning time and evening time ..." etc. Take a look how it should be singing ruclips.net/video/apiq3VN2Ra8/видео.html
Norm Lewis is one gorgeous man.....whew!

Oh, my God. Everything Audra touches is gold, and Norm ... just, oh my God.

Wow, to have been in the room where this happened is such a privilege ❤
My God.... Now that was tasteful. These two voices are just mind-blowing.

Can't wait until I attend a show on Broadway and bring my 8 yr old granddaughter!!
What a great interpretation! So beautifully acted yesssir!!
I don't know how many times I've watched this video, but I'll love it as much as I did the first time
YES!
SAME! I’m like thousands of these views are me LMAO
@@musictheatersix244 omg I always forget that I wrote this comment that was four years ago. Just spectacular performance
Just listened to a few different versions of this on RUclips. This is my favourite.

Simply fantastic! Brilliant convergence of song, singing and deeply felt acting. Thank you Ms. McDonald, Mr. Lewis, and the poster.
Glorious, thank you both.❤❤❤
OMG what a performance.....
This performance is possible the best i have ever heard of this song. And I love the reduced piano accompaniment. Love every detail of it!
Now this is real singing. A real voice. I love these two. And Norm is such a gentleman kissing her hand at the end :)
I never thought I'd see a rendition of this song to rival that of Leontyne Price and William Warfield, but Audra and Norm give me chills they are so powerful, emotional, and together with and for each other.
This woman is an absolute class act. Luv her so! This number will never be outdated! Don't care what political and times we are in.
They could rule the world.
goosebumps. beautiful.
This brings me to tear
Norm is my cousin who I just met last night---what a beautiful person and fantastic talent!
OMG, yes! That would be incredible
Wonderful!!!! Thank you.
I wish that they would do a revival of "Raisin" on Broadway!
Isn't he going to play the Phantom on Broadway starting in May? He has a great voice for the role.
I'll miss Hugh Panaro, he has such an amazing voice and he was my first Broadway Phantom. But Norm Lewis is amazing! He will be a great Phantom.
Robert Guillaume was the first African American man ever to play the role, wasn't he? Norm Lewis is the first to play it on Broadway, which is still a really big deal.
He replaced Michael Crawford as the Phantom in the National Tour.

***** Yes. Norm Lewis definitely makes my top 3 list of great Phantoms.
Beautiful
love it
Really heartwarming!
This is sublime!
Heaven ♥️
Divine.
BEAUTIFUL
Beautiful!
Precioso
Awesome.
They would sound wonderful as Christine and Erik (Phantom)! :)
❤❤❤
Yeaaaaaah!!!
Thank you so much for that. Just lovely. Different, no doubt, but simply lovely.
i can't stop watching this video
Superb
AMAZING!
Belíssimo!
perfection!
Awesome!
stunning
wonderful talent--wow! I think Ms. McDonald was on a tv sleuth series when younger--but can't remember the name of it.
It was called Private Practice. 2007-2013
The accompanist was dynamic!
wow
Edison Davis!! Love Norm

*Standing applause*
@JohnnyOpera1 Because they wanted to, I suppose.
I actually like this version better than the studio version they did for the album.
Am I the only one that thinks Norm would make a good Collins in RENT?
Who is the pianist?
Zoe is my friend!!!!!!! -Her Daughter
Who is playing piano?
Paul Masse, associate conductor for the show.
Why is he changing the melody so much? And why did they transpose the first section so high!?
gee .. IN MY OPIE TAYLOR VOICE!
This was my favorite scene. In other songs her voice overpowered his a little, but they are perfect here.
I hate her... Because she's absolutely perfect and makes me look like shit...
😂😂
still in my chair- barely.
Love the voices, piano is a bit too intrusive, imo.
Norm is too tenor for this rendition. Porgy is bass baritone all the way.
What the hell has happened with Gershwin music, what an awfull arrangement ... Second thing, it has been written to sing with pharase, line, like belcanto not as recativo with shouting like on these video ...
sorry buddy, I'm a purist but this rocks as did the entire production. Finally some real emotion!

He's 20 years too old, but vocally yes.
