I think the new version is pretty nice up until the end. There is one change that I just can’t forgive. It’s just so awful. It’s about the final battle with Dark Bowser. As a long time fan of this game i gotta be honest: They did an awesome job with the graphics and made alot of improovements BUT they also changed some stuff like the battle transition screen when you enter a battle which is WAYYYY too long in my opinion. The animation lasts for almost 4 seconds comparing it to the original which lasted half as long. I know that is just a minor detail which doesnt affect the gameplay at all but i just find it mildly annoying.
Well, if you had to grind levels, it could be a problem. It's probably because everything looks a loot more detailed now. But the 3ds should be able to handle it... Weird.
@@drizzziit1 OH bOi let me tell you about grinding levels. not gonna lie but it took me ages to get to the final levels with all 3 characters in this game and with that transition screen it could take a little longer. the thing is that is only one of a couple minor details that can annoy people like me who played the original first. i have to clarify though that i dont find it that bad that they made changes and tweaks but some were in my opinion not neseccary, like the long battle transition.
I almost forgot to add that the one thing that really annoyed me at the end of the video was that, at the final boss fight with dark bowser the screen would shatter to "announce" that this is the final ballte with that cool transition, which for DS graphics was mind blowing to me..... they didnt do it in the new one. they didnt even make a custom transition texture for the final boss... that is what dissapointed me the most. If you wanna know what i mean exactly then compare 3:16:15 and 3:24:37
Am i the only one that thinks midbus is criminally underused? He could be to bowser what wario is to mario, he would even make an awesome semi-clone of bowser in smash!
dededelete this nope. He was an amazing rival for bowser (apart from mario, if you would consider him a rival for bowser) and I really hope we see him in another Mario rpg.
Big improvement from the original, minus the bunch of cutscenes added to the giant battles, except when bowser throws the train down a cliff so satisfying.
@@WaluigisWharadise its actual rly good that they nerfed magic mirror i hope i will atleast get now a challange and dont be bored to stomp bosses with it
@@Takato-ym2dk As seen in the video, even if the special moves are nerfed. Having a higher level against the X bosses still instantly kills them! But, there is more. Even though the player characters have been nerfed and the bosses buffed. They still made it easier to use your attacks and dodge enemy attacks. Between the original and this, the orginal is the better choice for a challenge and the remake is great for younger and inexperienced players! The only reasons for buying this game would be for the graphical update to Luigi's green.
Looking at the Remake... honestly the Original had it better. It's mostly the Giant battles that speak the loudest on the issue. Bowser in the original felt like he threw punches fired out of a cannon, but in the remake his animations have much less impact and look a lot more sluggish. Like, just look at the walking animations. The Original has Bowser powerstriding with purpose towards his target, whereas in the remake he slowly ambles towards them with his arms at his sides. In fact, the only real change his arms make between his walking and idle animation are his hands being angled slightly more downwards. Even moreso, during the Tower of Yikk fight, the remake has a cutscene where the Tower and Bowser charge towards each other, but Bowser's animation looks like he's just shambling towards the Tower while it dead sprints at him. But later on in the fight, when the Tower flies out of the lake to reset the fight to neutral, you can see that Bowser actually *has* a running animation, but they didn't use it for the scene where they the run at each other? The rest of the game looks great but the Giant fights in the remake felt really rushed and undercooked. Dream Team came out 5 years earlier and the Giant battles there not only were fun as hell, but had very deliberate weight to the animations that made them FEEL like you were bashing a giant creature with a hammer the size of a building. But Bowser in the Remake looks and feels like they just kind of threw in the Giant battles as an afterthought.
The comparison of the final battle is that the original (DS/DSI) version has given more details like for this example: in the DS version, Dark Bowser unleash the dark power Dark Hurricane and has a cutscene that it can be spreaded on the village and the entire land and both M&L and Memory people are trapped inside the bubble. So it has a 6 or 7 page Dark Hurricane sequence. Second: when Chippy said: "DON'T FORGOT!" And Bowser said: "THE KINGDOM IS ALL MINE!" "SO YOU VANISH!" in a high-pitched voice it that said like the definition of true determination, if that manage to save the world before eternal disaster. Extra: I really like that glass shatter effect when beginning the final battle instead with a Bowser Icon. Third: The music was cut off as Dark Bowser was massively weaken as the Dark Star was Massively weaken first and Bowser delivering the final blow was really satisfying and when Fawful (Dark Form) blow up, I actually like the muiti-bubble-like dark tornado that M&L and Chippy has to ride for last time to get out of Bowser's inside body. And has the sound effect for that final inside moment.
Bowser's talksound doesn't sound quite as... natural. Back in BiS, his talksound was a low growling noise. Now, it feels like parts of his roar have been chopped up to play for each letter he says. EDIT: Jesus christ, Dark Bowser's talksound is grating to hear.
Bowser had that talk sound effect since Dream Team And it’s probably going to stay that way. So get used to it. I do admit, Dark Bowser’s is weird but they did their best to make it sound creepy and distorted.
@@garrettfish8471You think just because a game is ~10 years old means it doesn't matter if it gets spoiled? And I've played through the game multiple times, so I don't care about the spoiler, but other people might want to play it! But your right, complaining won't change a thing. I'm wasting my own time.
From our childhood we all know what the final boss is, but for those who don't, thanks for putting the final boss once again in the thumbnail. Really does the people who've never played the game a big favor. They don't even have to play the game themselves! Who liked surprises anyway?
Guys, It's a *REMAKE* Aka the chance for new players to actually play the darn thing. That "Duh, everyone already saw the final boss" is just plain wrong.
4:12, 5:46 To me, a perfect example as to why the original feels better. In the remake, when you get an Excellent punch, it just sends them a foot or two away to the side of the screen. In the original, it sends them a lot further and the camera follows them. Might seem simple and small, but it can definitely make anyone feel a difference in power.
I can definitely say that giant battles havd definitely improved. 3D makes it look a ton better, the music was improved, and some of the backgrounds as well.
@@robocu4 lol yeah it’s just opinions, as a long time fan of the Mario and Luigi games I can honestly say the 3ds remakes are very good and do better in certain areas than the gameboy and ds versions of superstar saga and bowsers inside story, but at the same time the originals do better in others and it’s all up to interpretation. Long story short, I love of them equally and personally think bowser looks more like bowser in the 3ds version than in the originals and that’s just my opinion, I do like is cartoony look too don’t get me wrong, but for me the 3ds version shows why bowser is so cool looking and menacing
It'd be sick if there were X forms for all Bowser bosses, including Dark Bowser. You'd think a remake would add stuff like that, oh well. At least it looks nice.
17:40 one of Bowser's idle animations I really loved because he looked so badass doing it in the original... the remake looks like he's just lazy... man that sucks
Actually yeah seeing as in the original you needed to be much higher leveled to get the final rankings where as here they made that a lot easier. Then there was the fawful express that was made a lot easier in the remake seeing as the original you needed the mic vs here you don't.
I think the original one is harder because most of the enemy’s attacks are faster and more unpredictable, while the remake version gives you too much time to prepare. They also removed some annoying attacks like Dark Star’s invisible rolling attack.
The remake doesn't give you too much time to prepare at all, it strikes a fair balance of giving you time to react to whatever attack they're doing. And they didn't remove any attacks, what're you talking about? The Dark Star invisible roll attack is very much still there.
Except for Fawful's ball spin attack. This one is nearly impossible to counter because of the fact the energy balls moves much faster and an extra one is trying to block goombas thrown by Bowser.
@@chrange9714But the Remake has is good things to Like i love what they do to the Final Castle, Deep Castle and the Cutscenes of the Final battle. Also the Background of the Dark star Core battle. Without mention the Soundtrack and the Rage stage of the Bosses. But this have many red flags.
The Bowser RUclipsr yeah dont know why they changed that, it was actually fun to try to catch the food but now is so slow and there is a glowing one for no reason too
After playing the remake, I can say I like alot of things about it, but one of my biggest gripes is how boring special attacks are now. Magic mirror is super slow and it used to be fun to press buttons super fast and go for an almost infinite amount of time. Falling star is also very slow, barely changes resulting in less need to switch between the a and b buttons, snack basket now is slow and requires you to jump and move. Bros attacks have been turned into chores.
Dishwater That’s unfortunate, because I find the attacks to be improved in many regards. For instance, magic window cannot be abused now which makes fights more challenging. Snack basket is now harder because of the way the food falls.
LMAO the Blue Bowser alternate skin in Smash was so popular that they made it into a real character 😂😂😂 This comment is a joke I played the original in 2009 for hours on end when I was little and plan on buying the remake day 1 when it drops in the states Jan.11 please don’t hate me
Jose Lopez I love the old sprite more then the newer one, maybe it’s just nostalgia. Also when bowser is talking it was more better in 2009 then 2019 tbh
While the sound, music, and graphics have been greatly improved, I can't help but feel that the original had a better style to it. In the original, the colors were more vivid, and it had more of a cartoony feel. I mean I'll get it maybe just for the Bowser Jr side but I prefer the original
3ds version has not only bad sounds effects, but it's also too slow and too easy, DS one is genuinely challanging and has better sound effects. Let alone the 3ds doesn't have the lowering cage in the Midbus fight.
@@garrethizer and the graphics, harder difficulty, better animations, faster gameplay, more of a personality, more difficulty, and a bunch of other things that make the ds version more fun to play
@@chugiron4698 okay, I get what you're trying to say, but graphically you're wrong bud, music is hit and miss, having more of a range makes the 3ds better, bud I get it, I have nostalgia for the DS version but the Remake is better
Bosses were buffed in how much damage they can take, but their attacks were slowed down and nerfed and now they're really easy to dodge. Also I miss Goomba Storm being a lot harder to get an excellent on.
Dj Jose yeah. Miss the skill reaction time it took to dodge attacks. Also by slowing down battles like that the benefit of mental and physical reflex playing video games diminishes
Funny how it's the little things that stick out to me the most. Like the removal of Fawful's cackle during the final boss or Bowser not shouting "I rule!" after beating his doppelganger.
All the giant battles are PERFECT! The giant Bowser design should look the same as Normal size bowser. The normal battles...well...they are making the characters weaker. I mean remember when bowser can hit a 45 on midbus? No? Course not! And plus making an angry form doesnt change their attacks or anything. Still the same with or without.
Kinda nice how they made it in the 3DS version after killing Dark Bowser he turns into the Dark Star itself and not some sort of purple star. That was never explained and the 3DS version just makes more sense.
And if they did make a remake of this game I am willing to bet that both the red shells and the copy flower specials will receive unwarranted nerfed just like the magic mirrors did in this one, as well as the the second advanced bros's super in the remake of Mario and luigi superstar saga.
@Timschges23 When I picked up the game a week ago and played it part of the fun for me with the original was getting the magic mirrors due to how powerful it was. Then when I finally get the item and used it ban I saw how they nerfed it into the ground which really took a lot of the joy out of it. While I understand why they did this just like they did with the other move I mentioned In superstar saga small changes like that and the others people mentioned ruin the game for them.
The original one looks better, not because of my nostalgia. Too many instruments in dark bowser's theme, slow battle tempo, unwanted cutscenes in giant battles, nerfed special attacks, and piss yellow dark star X. BTW, why does a blocky cat deal same damage with the doggy? Weird.
The dark star theme is the same. You dont have a single music knowledge to say "they added instruments" when the instruments are the same but much better rendered, to the point when you objectivelly can hear parts that originaly were harder to hear in the theme, like the chromatic scale with the volins. When you just have nostalgia and not a single fucking notion of what you are talking about, just shut up and swallow your pride, would ya?
I like the 3DS version's giant battles, but I like the DS version's boss battles. And I love the DS version's final boss too! The 3DS version changed Dark Bowser's battle to the point where I think the DS's version is better. You know, like the theme, his look, and the end of the battle where Bowser charges up four punches, and then punches Dark Bowser in the most epic way possible. And they removed the epic explosion from when Dark Bowser gets defeated. Now in the Remake, they are just little explosions instead of those huge cool looking dark energy balls that explode out of Dark Bowser. (Phew...)
I don't know how i feel about the final beatdown in the remake honestly.. I much prefer the music stopping, hearing dark bowser absolutely writhing in pain from what's happening to him, and also being launched 50 km/h from every punch. It's a shame the studio shutdown though :(
I actually don't mind it, the atmosphere is still much better to me in the remake, and I much prefer the KO punches getting more power with each punch, and dark Bowser still screams in pain with the final punch
While I found the remake of this game to be way more challenging since the bosses got a good buffing (especially the final one seeing as I could destroy him with just one inhaling of Fawful in the old vs this one where I couldn't) I still liked the original more than this one. One of the things I just couldn't forgive besides some of the old sound effects being removed (spin pipes for example had them when you landed a correct hit) was what they did to the magic mirror special in this one. This was my favorite bros special in the game and they just went and nerfed it into the ground. As for the extra game content while I am glad it does exist and it was nice to see the behind the scene's story with Boswer Jr. It not only wasn't my thing but it opened up the old wounds of having to swallow that the koopalings weren't boswers actual kids but rather high ranking minions instead.
I honestly like the look of the original better. A large part of it is just that Bowser’s more pleasant to look at in that game. The remake also dumbed down the goombas and the mushroom window thing

Og final boss fight is the coolest thing gaming has ever seen
@@WaluigisWharadise meh im rather the person that waits for the partners in time remake if they make one
I loved the original when i was younger, and i think this is a fantastic remake
What mic you use? It sounds great!
Mario: 2:13:39
6:22 Come on Bowser, are you seriously saying you can’t win? That did 4 damage!
he said it’s that weird mushroom that made him not win
And yet, when those same "chopped up roar" sounds were used in Dream Team, Paper Jam, and Superstar Saga DX, nobody complained.
Bowser’s sound effect doesn’t sound too bad. Dark Bowser’s speech is pretty horrendous, though.
That's because you didn't hear it everytime your trying to attack an enemy as Bowser.
Bowser had that talk sound effect since Dream Team And it’s probably going to stay that way. So get used to it. I do admit, Dark Bowser’s is weird but they did their best to make it sound creepy and distorted.

To me, a perfect example as to why the original feels better. In the remake, when you get an Excellent punch, it just sends them a foot or two away to the side of the screen. In the original, it sends them a lot further and the camera follows them.
Might seem simple and small, but it can definitely make anyone feel a difference in power.

Actually yeah seeing as in the original you needed to be much higher leveled to get the final rankings where as here they made that a lot easier. Then there was the fawful express that was made a lot easier in the remake seeing as the original you needed the mic vs here you don't.
The original is nostalgic
The new version is (mainly) QoL upgrades. All types of beans, no annoying attack details everywhere are definitely better.

Snack Basket is terrible now. Instead of coming in a fast but continuous line, it's all over the place.
The Bowser RUclipsr yeah dont know why they changed that, it was actually fun to try to catch the food but now is so slow and there is a glowing one for no reason too
At least it’s actually harder to do now.
Dishwater
That’s unfortunate, because I find the attacks to be improved in many regards. For instance, magic window cannot be abused now which makes fights more challenging. Snack basket is now harder because of the way the food falls.
I'd say that the way you get magic window seems like a fair enough trade for how good it is. And if it's too easy, then don't use it.
LMAO the Blue Bowser alternate skin in Smash was so popular that they made it into a real character 😂😂😂

Bosses were buffed in how much damage they can take, but their attacks were slowed down and nerfed and now they're really easy to dodge. Also I miss Goomba Storm being a lot harder to get an excellent on.
Basically everything is slower

The dark star theme is the same. You dont have a single music knowledge to say "they added instruments" when the instruments are the same but much better rendered, to the point when you objectivelly can hear parts that originaly were harder to hear in the theme, like the chromatic scale with the volins. (Phew...)
