I loved this game when I was a kid. It's a little frustrating now, but back then, it was awesome. I'd never played anything like it! My brothers and i saved up our paper route money to buy the N64 and this game. Some people gonna hate. The nostalgia is real.

I think that DK64 is an example of way too many people saying "one flaw in the game = it's a terrible game". Like the game has a shitton of collectables and you can't pick up certain collectables unless you're the right character, that's pretty much the only sin this game committed. Other than that, the game had a phenomenal atmosphere for 1999, some of the best music on N64, and plenty of charm and personality to keep anyone (especially kids) playing.

This game was amazing when it came out. By modern standards, it's too large and there is too much backtracking. People don't remember what it was like back then as a kid. You'd get one or two games a year, and the longer and more epic the better. Nowadays everyone has an infinite backlog so game design favors a more dense and shorter play style. The game is a product of it's time and must be evaluated as such.

Oh boy was the rose tinted glasses effect in play 😅 it’s fair to say i regretted my decision 😂 many many hours of pain but i was able to put this game to rest knowing i finally overcome the collectathon from hell 😂

It’s so loud and it’s never funny. I just want to hear the streamer and the game. The alerts are too loud but forgivable, the text to speech is atrocious

DK64 was released when the N64 was mid-way through its lifespan. The game's texture and geometry are underwhelming. To improve performance, it was bundled with the N64 Expansion Pak, a costly add-on that provides no value to the game.
