The NBA Is Ruining Your Favorite Player But Won't Admit It

- The #NBA is ruining young players.
Scoot was in conversations to even be the number one overall pick. Certain people believed he was more ready for the NBA than Wemby. Scoot was able to score over Wemby and ended up winning that game, Victor blew everyone’s minds so when Scoot fell to third in the draft, everyone was shocked and there was outrage.
Scoot Henderson is averaging 12.2 points on 12.1 shots, shooting 36.4% from the field. I understand that the point guard position is the hardest to learn, but even giving leeway for a rookie figuring things out, a third overall pick is supposed to be pretty good right now, especially since he played in the g-league. And it’s not like he’s not getting opportunities. He’s playing 27 minutes per game with a x usage, in line with other rookies.
The NBA is ruining young players before they even get to the league. ****The story is becoming all to familiar and it’s something the NBA wants you to forget so I’m going to go through the 3 key pieces in this absurd story and what you need to pay attention to, to never fall in this trap again.
And that’s piece #1, the NBA made a new product that is failing, but won’t admit it.
These are all the pros that were drafted out of the g-league.
And even though it’s a really small sample size, all of them have been head scratchers.
The G league ignite is a developmental team in the g league that’s sole purpose is to develop talent. They only play exhibition games against mainly other g league teams. These games don’t really have meaning. It’s not like they are fighting for a championship, it’s more like AAU, players are just trying to show off and make a name for themselves. AAU has already been damaging US basketball, by developing bad habits, not winning basketball ****and ignite in theory is a higher level of that.
But instead of reevaluating what the results of this program, the NBA has doubled down, and that’s piece #2, the NBA trying to create hype even when it wasn’t there.
Scoot was also a negative net rating in the G-league, but again, that was his first season in the g league so we sweep that under the rug.
Scoot averaged 16.5 points on 42.5% from the field, 27% from 3. While all the mixtapes were showing some amazing finishes fighting through contact with really good body control, it wasn’t consistent.
In fact in every scouting report, there was one consistency. All mentioned his ability to score against older players.
And if we look at Scoot Henderson, it’s the same thing.
But if you ever watch the g league, it’s a completely different game than the NBA.
And perhaps an underrated missing component of the g league is the lack of environment. How many people are consistently watching the g league? How many sold out arenas are these players having to perform under? Not dealing with that pressure means when you get to the NBA, it’s a massive change and an important metric to know before getting into the league. Again, that’s not to say a player can’t adapt, but if you’re picking a lottery pick, you would want to know that the player can rise to the occasion and have some sample size of high pressure games with thousands of people watching. For all of you that disregard the bubble because there was no crowd, then you might also disregard the g-league.
So in fact, the G-league ignite doesn’t mean you’re the most ready prospect, it means you’re possibly the least ready. It is actually hurting the development of these players.
And that’s piece #3, the NBA has set up Scoot and other prospects from the G-League up for failure.
The concern doesn’t end because what about the next year of talent coming. You have Matas Buzelis and Ron Holland who both projected to be in the lottery along with several other late first rounders from the g league ignite. And that is scary because I don’t know exactly what to believe. I have to dodge the NBA propaganda and hope that these players can succeed in spite of the g league ignite.
So now when Henderson has been a bit awol, we didn’t hear that much. And I’m sure when Scoot does play well, hopefully, the NBA media will push him up. Because Scoot’s success is the NBA’s success.
The ignite program was supposed to be an alternative route to college. Especially after starting see bigger name athletes go abroad to play with professional teams, the NBA wanted a piece of the action, hoping to attract more eyes on the NBA.
The G-league has helped certain players get ready for the NBA, look at Khris Middleton, Pascal Siakam both who had to ball out in the G-league just to get a chance in the NBA.
And that’s the difference, even with the greatest facilities, if you’re not playing competitive basketball, then you’re missing on a key component of what makes a player successful in the NBA.
So let’s stop hurting talent and force the NBA to fix their program. ****Because I don’t know about you but I wanna see the game get better. - Спорт
College is better than g league.
College teams trying to win
G league players trying to pad stats not to win
GLI would be so much better if they just made it into 2 teams and added them to the actual G League roster. Make them compete in actual G League games with teams fighting for something.
Still will be playing in empty arenas and the style of play is way different
Exactly. People won't care about the G-League and it won't be actually competitive unless the NBA implements a system like the European Football league. The whole league would fight harder too because no one wants to get demoted.
@HENRYPAN19 that would be insane..... and I'm personally here for it
Bruh Kuminga be averaging like 25 on 55% for the last 15 games
Exactly he’s actually the future of the Warriors once we start rebuilding
scoot was never ever going to be the #1 pick. ever. idk why ppl say this
ya it was always wembenyama #1 and then #2 was up for debate between scoot and miller
@@chadwellington2524 exactly. #2 was a debate. #1 was always wembanyama just like lebron. tbh i saw doncic as one of the great prospects in nba history along with lebron and wemby... i also saw mahomes out of texas tech as the best qb prospect i ever saw hands down. no clue how doncic and mahomes went #1 picks. tho myles garret was a rare prospect himself
@@mortystraphouse5077 i mean Myles Garrett is great tho, just the Browns ain't all that but they not bad, they were able to go to the playoffs even with the injuries problem I think. But yeah Mahomes and Doncic not being #1 is due, at least for Doncic, to xenophobia and US superiority complex, they were debating if Euroleague was as good as US college basketball, then proceed to lose in the next2 World Cup and barely winning Gold over French team.
Idk what was the narrative around Mahomes tho
@@paquinraino8180 i mean i agree doncic slipped partly because ppl viewed recent euro prospects and bust and soft. but i mean doncic was playing pro as a teenager and dominating like lebron ill never ge tit. as far as mahomes, i have no clue. in college he had the best arm in history of football and put on a show at the combine. he was doing what he doe snow at texas tech its on you tube. maybe like lamar slipping it was a racial element like black qbs arent worth a top pick idk, similar to doncic but reverse ironically
@@mortystraphouse5077 To be fair Mahomes had potential bust written all over his face when entering the draft. The Chiefs reached a bit with that pick, but in the end that turned out to be a pretty damn good draft day trade. Mahomes is pretty much the only elite QB who came from an air raid offense in college. I do though also believe that his first year behind Smith taught him a lot about discipline and how to manage a game. If he had started his first year for a badly coached team in the NFL like the Bears he would have looked a lot different and maybe developed some bad habits. Mahomes in college just threw that ball wherever the fuck he wanted which led to a lot of yards but also some boneheaded plays. That being said his talent was obvious, but there were still very important questions about his IQ. Luckily Mahomes is a hard working guy and he was drafted into literally the perfect situation alongside a solid consistent target(Kelce), an insane deep threat(Hill) and a GOAT offensive coach(Reid).
Damn, you laid out such a good argument. I'm now convinced that G League Ignite is ruining the young players
This is why Euros are taking over. If an organization has to spend 3 or 4 years breaking all those AAU bad habits, is it really worth it? You'll get a role player, 8th man. Maybe for the 20th pick, not 3rd. I don't understand why some scouts have yet to learn this. Scoot is a perfect example of hype with no substance. I'm not saying he's a bust, but his learning curve is a LOT steeper than other players in the lottery. I wish him the best, i do.
There’s a lot of bad scouts in the NBA nowadays
If you look at cooper flagg's game then you will understand why.
@@dreamcage1801 which is funny because theres already the internet. you can easily get a feel. then go to the game. unlike before when it was only a call from friend then the scout appears when thers enough hype
Kiminga is literally taking over he’s averaging 20 plus points on near 60 percent shooting percentage since Kerr started giving him minutes
26.7 from 3 his last 10 🤷♂️
@@oldhead2769i mean, he’s not projected to be shooter though. jk’s strength has always been his nuclear athleticism, which he uses to get to the rim and finish. problem i see with jk is he’s fundamentally bad at defense
@@jhdivina bad defense and no shooting in a league built for shooting doesn't really sound like a guy to build a team around. It is nice having a guy jump out the gym getting putbacks and dunks, builds momentum
@@oldhead2769 there are players who thrived in the modern nba despite not being a good 3pt shooter, and while i said he has bad fundamentals for defense, he makes up for it with his athleticism and strength so he’s about average on defense. he’s only 21 too so he’s likely going to improve on defense with draymond being there to mentor him. not saying he’s going to be giannis, but he is on a good trajectory if he keeps this up

Scoot is still young. I wouldn't be surprised if he turns into a solid "star" or even at least a starter.
He deff will be something special in a couple of years
@@bigbangbasketball You def don't know that
@@MelvinJ64 so many of his kind park baller style. that never panned out in th enba
Let the GL Ignite players play against top Euroleague teams too, I think that will be beneficial to them
And why would the euroleague allow that?
NBA wouldn’t do that cus the Ignite team would get killed
Agreed g league is overrated not to mention the ignite in specific are basically just a team of teenage prospect sending them to the Euro League would be unfair to them not to mention a very different game of basketball@@thestdemon20
G League teams are probably as good as midtier Eurocup teams. Which is lower tier tournament in Europe. Winner of Eurocup is allowed to join Euroleague each year. Top Europe teams are not interested in playing with some kids with no team basketball understanding. It would be waste of time.
agree and scouts
Well said. They play in games that don't matter against competition that isn't even competitive. As the saying goes, steel sharpens steel. It's like playing in an unranked online game. You don't just care cause it doesn't affect your rating and you don't get any better.
Imagine you are a Euroleague MVP and a bench warmer in the NBA.
Vezenkov hasn’t been able to adjust to the league’s speed and athleticism. I do think he’ll get there with time but him not being a capable driver/dribbler on strong close outs and being very heavy footed on defense sets him back. He’s a tactical system player. He has an elite skill in shooting, knowing when to cut, and iq but his foot speed and wingspan doesn’t help him one bit.. Micic on the other hand is playable in the nba but he’s just not a great defender. Micic looks like a new man in Charlotte..
Great breakdown 💯
Great content & insight 💪🏾
NBA 's problem is they only care about stars stars stars
There is no problem with being a 6th man or solid starter for years in the NBA.
Also I agree with G league being all about young players trying to show off they're amazing too get the call up
The issues is about ignite not overall g league
Potential💯 perfect word a lot of the these young guys show that but the nba is so quick to push the next star and they gotta avg 20 immediately
GLI is like a sponsored AD on Facebook
Just let them play in the actual g league
When everyone is a star, nobody is a star. Same fallacy, just like all babies are beautiful. Awesome video bro.❤
Amazing video man.
GLeague would actually be a great product if they invested in it properly.
These young players are definitely talented, but they’re not breaking their bad AAU & HS star habits on the Ignite. That was one of the biggest pluses about college.
US Men’s basketball has become a run & dunk (& 3 if you can get it) game due & the nba co-sign it, while all their international operations work significantly differently.
Great video, another reason why this new generation of players are not more skilled than past. You gotta be put in high pressure situations while you young in order to deal with the nerves and be able to perform under those circumstances. Part of the reason college and March Madness is still needed. If you never play in any meaningful games as a kid, when you get to the NBA and you find yourself in the playoffs you won’t know how to deal with the added on the court and off the court pressure
American players are just corny nowadays
@@dreamcage1801 facts, all flash and no heart smh
@@michaelbarnes2126 no pride n not playing like lions. They are not real men and they play like women.
adam silver is horrible
Totally agree
This is why teams need to have reeducation for new players, warriors, heat, Celtic and few others have done this well for up coming players to workout the kinks in a players play style...
If the ignite were run like an actual g league team with structure they'd be better. Its just throw money at top HS player and let him take all the shots...
Jalen Green doesn't seem to care if the Rockets are not winning as long as he's in the highlight reel.
9:10 in 2017-2018 the nba had 1 billion unique viewers and has been broadcasted to over 200 countries for several years. However, I could find any stats from more recent years
Pls does somebody know tha jazz intsrumental music.I SEARCH it for years 😢😢
You mean the Classical at the beginning? Vivaldi Winter (Four Seasons)
Idk if you’re talking about the actual jazz piece in the middle of the video or the classical piece he always uses at the beginning and end- but the second is called winter by antonio vivaldi
@@GoodKarma11 yes yes the actual jazz piece in the middle of the video ❤🙏🏾
Outside of US nobody watch G League. Half of 250 milion??🤣🤣
I think the G-League is okay but going to college having different atmosphere like March Madness vibe and all that would help them big pressure moments to succeed
I disagree with your premise in your essay entirely. The issue is young players in general not understanding the NBA game and having to learn it on the fly as teenagers. This issue preceded the G league and goes back to when they allowed players in the league right after high school. Their growth in their games need to be measured after at least their 3rd year to get an accurate assessment rather than cherry picking stats to try to prove your point so early on. I do appreciate your hard work in producing this video. Keep doing your thing 💪🏿
tbf its portland. the only thing you heard from them last year was the dame trade rumours and the 71 game. they didnt tell you that the blazers struggled through injury or that dame became the alltime leading scorer. if you want a good idea of what a team has going on you gotta watch the games and not make opinions based off of your fyp.
JK Take isn’t valid imo
he's only gotten better recently
like he just completely neglects to mention the stretch he’s been on for the past month after finally getting the playing time he deserved
College teaches them teamwork and basketball
The G league needs to give free tickets out to highschoolers so there can be somewhat of a crowd and maybe middle school
Nothings guaranteed…but I believe Scoot will be playing a lot better after All-Star break and breakout next year.Incredible speed and power…way way better on turnovers and fouls lately.Had missed 2 free throws in the last 2 months making 39 in a row…as well as 3 point shooting is definitely not looking bad.He seems to take pride in defense 👍
potential upside
I was listening to hear who should have been pushed instead of scoot, is in who did the scouts miss
Potential, cuz u da real one 😄😃
nba just needs to bite the bullet and turn the g into an actual minor league where winning is the focus, give the two g-league finals teams a chance to play in the IST.
big wiggy always with the 1st comment snipe 😂
1:05 why did #2 stop running tho he was ahead of his man?!?!?!
Hornets really did get good draft pick this time huh
The last draft pick from MJ, him against the world. He was right...this time.
yea brandon is a beast. wasn’t a fan at first but as i watched him more he’s really good. Great pick
Great analysis. The NBA is suffering from self-inflicted wounds in general cuz it's trying to straight up CREATE the narrative, and this extends to Lebron being the "GOAT" (not to make this a Lebron post, but same mentality). Just let them play and back the winningest player, too many fans are not buying the BS.
us basketball is failing hard, you need to stop complaining bout this stuff and change it instead. only those iso players that cannot box out properly, no defense, just fkn hero ball again and again and again. always hyping players to the roof without any substance. and after all you start coplaining bout euopes takin over.
When green got drafted I convinced one of my homies he would be averaging 30 by his 5th year… I don’t think I’m gonna give up hope yet but tick tick Jalen
g league plays absolutely ZERO D -- even the nba plays some D. so these guys are shocked how hard efficiency is bc theyve never practiced it
Kuminga is a star level player
all 3 of them have borderline all star potential but they dont have superstar potential. They were marketed as superstar potential especially Scoot Henderson
@@user-bw6pt9dy6fhe’s not showing flashes he’s actually been consistent and ever since like December he’s scored double digits every single time
It be better if the gleague had a draft for highschoolers wanting to go that route instead of having them all on one team, have the talent scattered with other dudes who are more experienced so these kids can learn and gain experience
My favorite player is Michael Jordan Poole, I don’t think anything can save him 😂
more views on a pre season game than the finals tells everything u need to know about the state of basketball rn
Nah potential hitting ur funny bone on the backboard is unimaginable 😭
College or G league, what’s better or who has the better talent pool. It doesn’t matter. Talents trump all. To get into a NBA you have to be a special type of player so in my opinion it doesn’t matter where a player comes from. If he has what it takes he will get into the NBA.
Having said that, I do agree that some prospects seems to be manufactured like Scoot or Jalen. Ignite should be more of a developmental team but are they? College develops players in a system but I don’t think the G league or Ignite does that.
Dyson Daniels is also a lottery
NBA needs to learn a thing or two from the Euro Football league. It'll change the whole dynamic.
Make the 1st team from the league qualify for next season NBA and watch em hustle hard.
Bro, you gotta put the outro back to the way it was before. It used to run for like 10-15 seconds. That 2 second sht ain’t it. 😮💨
Tbh in the current era drafting 6”3 pg like scoot and suggs is just good or bad no in between… thats why team like to draft 6”9 huge potential guy coz even if he dont do good he can be a good deffender😂
The old Continental Basketball Association was much more competitive and a better environment for preparing guys for the NBA than today's G-League. Successful coaches like Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan cut their teeth coaching in the CBA, and stars like Anthony Mason and John Starks developed their competitive edge and skills as players in that league. It was the unofficial feeder league through most of NBA history. Then Isiah Thomas bought the whole league. He then refused to sell it to the NBA for a profit. The NBA pivoted to the D-League, and Isiah left the CBA in a sorry state, leading to its collapse. The NBA should take some cues from the old CBA and give teams a more competitive environment, both for the older players and for the "chosen ones" on the Ignite.
Change the 1 and done rule
Players can be drafted out of hs but have to spend 1 yr in G-League
That way they can play competitive basketball and potentially train with NBA teams
Yess get rid of the one and rule and make it 2 and double or 3 and some
These are nba globetrotters
I still think that good scouts can see and read between the lines and don't make the mistake, but yes, overhyped is the name of the game
I guess you can say that NBA teams look beyond the hype and look at the whole picture since they didn't draft Scooter #1 or #2 overall. But the NBA shouldn't setup their talents for failure. Also "potential"
Take g-league ignite and make it an official team in the g-league.
the two teams that make it to g-league finals gets to play some of the teams that didn't make playoffs in summer league, while reducing some of the games the nba finals teams plays in summer league to make up for the time.
🔥🔥🔥
That scouting bias is crazy
Eye opening
You'd think they'd learn their lesson that these super athletes with no skill don't do well. How many more Kumingas, scoots, kj Martin's, jalen greens, and Thompson twins do we need?
potential babbbbbbbbbyyyyyyyy
The NBA might as well let high school players get drafted again 😂
Maybe blame the team that drafted those players?, But it is still Impossible to know for sure. Even the best franchises have the occasional bust, even the worst franchises have the occasional steal, there's obviously a pretty high number of unknowns involved with scouting, and even a fair bit of luck, but the teams that have a good history of developing players seem to do a good job of controlling what they can.
Meanwhile mcclung is a bucket in the gleague and no one gives him a chance 🤷🏻♂️😮💨
The 250 million is referring to the audience of Daily Motion. They are trying to say there will be available 250 million people who could potentially watch the G League...so the deal is supposed to give the G League a greater audience. It's not saying all these people are fans of the G League. Hope that helps! Lol
potential
250 million fans is OUTRAGEOUS lmao
Never belive hype. Never think rookies are good untill they actually show it on the court. All rookies and draft picks are hyped way too much. Also draft picks are way too overrated.
Potential
Potential.. Went to Richmond Hill High.. #QGTM
Scoot will aatleast come a solid role player/starter. Its his first year.
I think people are Overreacting to the G-league Ignite thing the same way they were over reacting to Euroleague Prospects before Luka. Because of the Small sample size there hasn't been an All star prospect yet. But they're being compared to College prospects while there's 1-5 G-league prospects in a draft vs 50-55 College prospects. It's not like there hasn't been College Prospects that have been struggling. In fact 95% of them may have been doing worse than G-league prospects. But the 5% that is doing better will stand out.
I don't see anyone blaming College for Jabari Smith Jr, Marvin Bagley, Josh Jackson or Anthony Black struggling
McClung has better g league stats than scoot
POV: MJ2K right before his baby shower
Hornets finally made good decision with Brandon Miller instead of Scoot. I still like Scoot tho
Scoot is turning out to be the biggest bust in recent history and and massive L for the NBA in their effort to make the G League a more appealing alternative to college ball. Dame saw through the BS Adam Silver was offering and got the f out of Portland the first chance he got
Kuminga is having a breakout year and looking like the next Giannis. You might be right but you can't use him as an example, he's evidence against your point if anything.

The nba is making too much pressure? Lol idk there’s plenty of picks that fold in the nba. The nba trying to sell the product if the player don’t blossom in the nba then they folded under the pressure and get payed to play basketball.
NBA is obsessed with the European players because they have better fundamentals skills than the American players nowadays
Brandon miller was always better than scoot and anybody that didn’t see that doesn’t really know basketball. They just play too much 2k and think PG is just better than any other position.

What are you saying JK is an all star
wym jalen green playing pretty good like 15 games with 30 points and triple double vr the rapters 26 points 14 rebounds 10 assist and the win but struggling with 3 pointers young players do that so but they have a lot of talent like cam Whitmore amen Thompson and Tarri Esson alphren Sugun and Jabarri smith jr plus Jalen green a lot of young talent so don't call him a bust the rockets give everyone on the team a chance
Only g league players that playin good rn are jk and Jalen green
I feel like this is a bad faith take, because everything you described in your reasoning can be applied to college players, with the exception of the "plays against grown men" take. If you think that the college game is preparing players better for the NBA, this lets me know you do not watch college ball either. Scouts are always messing up, that is what their JOB is lol there have been far more examples of those college players playing "meaningful" (which on its face is a bold-face lie unless you're in a power school for the most part) games and having meaningful impact in those games, only to get to the NBA and flame out hard. TLDR: GLI is not worse or better than taking the college route, at least so far.
