      The problem is, where do you stop? Some people call science packs beakers, others flasks, I just call them science. Some people call the utility science pack yellow, others call it gold. Some people call inserters "grabbers". There's a lot of alternate names. They could do a system where you could put your own alternate names in, but then how would that work in multiplayer?
      But they did say they'd look at maybe doing something like that at the event.

    re: new map gen - I think this is the first mention I've come across of there being bodies of water akin to seas now in the base map gen!
    I love the Cargo Ships mod, but I never did a proper game with it. Fiddling with 1.0's (and previous) map gen, I seem to only get it to place enough water for long shipping lines if I give up on also having enough land for long train lines. Hopefully 2.0 Nauvis will give me seas *and* continents, and stop forcing me to choose between them.

    One thing about fulgora that concerns me is the lightning flash VFX mostly at night time. In all the clips i've seen of nighttime fulgora some have left me feeling a bit discomforted due to how random it is, not that it's bad it just makes me feel a bit nauseated. I'd hope there's some method to tone down the flashing or off entirely. Otherwise REALLY excited to try the planet out

    I expect one of Gleba's techs will be the super landfill useable on the other planets, but ..even so, that doesn't make it a compelling 1st or 2nd option. In order to achieve a relative balance between the planets, the reward must make the mechanics/difficulties worthwhile, and must also be as desirable as the rewards the other planets provide. otherwise the situation becomes: do vulcanus & fulgora 1st and 2nd (probably in that order, but the opposite order is probaably fine, too), and only go to gleba when either a) you need the super landfill i expect is unlocked there, or: it's necessary to get the science/tech path unlocked to reach the final planet.

    So I have one question on my mind, maybe you can touch on that. I'm wondering if Nauvis as your "main, big production hub" is a given, or whether other planets, say Vulcanus could take that place?
    As I see it, Vulcanus sounds like an interesting option for ramping up the big production due to the infinite resources; but Vulcanus also sounds like it will be difficult to secure a significantly large area to do just that.
    Fulgora has the big advantage of swimming in higher tech (and I suspect recycling with quality modules from top-down rather than building with quality modules from the bottom-up is going to be much more effective?), lending itself to a great hub for quality item production, but then you have all those somewhat isolated "islands" that don't lend themselves well to big production (perhaps a bit of a city-block approach works, minus the "block" part of city block -- city islands?).
    Nauvis has none of that, but reliable resources, a familiar enemy that is easy to drive away and very easy to claim land. You can go HUGE on nauvis, have all the space you ever need, but none of the fancy bonuses like lava or scrap.
    So I wonder if in the end, Nauvis will remain the essential anchor for your playthroughs by virtue of having virtually infinite and easy to use space, or if the other planets are realistic alternatives to it?
    Can you say something in that regard, what is your impression? Could you quickly transition in making Vulcanus your "main" planet, or will the worms just say "nuh-uh" to such an ambition?

    • @trismugistus
      @trismugistus  Месяц назад +1

      I'll do my best to give some thoughts but it's a pretty complex thing to discuss. I suspect also that it'll be like the main game where people will try things and there'll be different strategies that are viable. A bit like main bus was something that developed over time and city blocks later still.

    • @theral056
      @theral056 Месяц назад +1

      @@trismugistus Looking forward to the video!
      Earlier I was also mulling something else over: different starting planets. I wonder how feasible it would be to make each of the 3 first planets a starting location, assuming you do unlock the core techs to get started on each. Probably going to be a mod for that at some point. Say starting on Gleba would be a straightforward deal, as it uses "coal power" and water pumps, so power is early tech, you just need to enable the fruit growing early on. Or Fulgora, if you had the scrap recycler available early. Might be something fun to experience.

  • @mx2000
    @mx2000 Месяц назад +1

    Somehow, it seems like no one is actually *excited* about quality. At least none of the early access players I saw.

    • @trismugistus
      @trismugistus  Месяц назад

      I thought about this - I haven't really seen anyone be excited about it as such, no. I think it's because it's a "modifier" system, rather than a specific new building or thing. So it's less tangible than something like a new building or belt tier.
      But the reaction has been favourable, I'd say - people like it, but yeah, perhaps not properly excited.
      It's also something that we were kinda encouraged not to dive too deep into early on - it can be a bit of a trap sinking lots of resources into it early on, especially without the recycler. And because most teams in the lan didn't really get to end game, I don't know that many of us played with it too much.

    As someone who usually plays on Peaceful and generally doesn't interact with biters unless absolutely necessary, I was thinking of turning off Peaceful for Space Age in favour of heavily neutered biters (namely lowered effect from pollution and removing time-based evolution) so as to make a large chunk of the tech tree not a complete waste of science.
    With that in mind, hearing that Nauvis combat became more challenging was very concerning to me and is making me reconsider my previous idea. How bad did the combat actually become and how would you suggest approaching it for a player who generally avoids the combat and defence mechanics of the game?

    • @trismugistus
      @trismugistus  Месяц назад

      I can't really fully answer your question pre-embargo as there's a bit more to it. I will try and pick up these other questions, but I have a Q&A blog post where I'm asking people to put their questions and I can answer them in a video and livestream on the 14th (final planet and end-game excepted).
      I can say that neutering the biters is still a pretty viable approach for customising your play experience.

      @trismugistus  Месяц назад +1

      375 was quality :)
      It sort of explains it - it's based on modules, where, if you have a module in a machine then it has a chance of increasing the quality level.
      If you have questions, you're probably best asking them in the Q&A blog post and I'll pick them up there for the video / Livestream.
      In terms of mods, not sure if they've been explicit in the FFF, but any mod that involves one of the devs should be compatible (assuming it's not made its way into the core game :)) and they've given key mod makers access to the v2 modding api documentation, and quite a few were at the lan party / are beta testers. Wube loves its modders as I believe that's where some of the devs (maybe even kovarex?) got started :).
      I think it's likely big mods will be compatible very quickly, but smaller stuff depends on if its maintained.

    If it’s very easy to get rockets going from fulgora, why do you think you need a big nauvis base first? Why not just rush to fulgora and use stuff from there to make your rockets?

    • @trismugistus
      @trismugistus  Месяц назад +1

      I kinda explained in the video - I'm not necessarily saying big, I am saying productive and efficient. I'm pretty sure bootstrapping each planet will (for me) be both tedious and difficult on some planets, so I think it's better that Nauvis can build platforms and provide you with stuff via platforms.
      But for others that may be fun and I'm sure other strategies are viable - depends on if grinding out the same stuff on each planet is your cup of tea, or if you'd just rather have Nauvis build things and platforms ship them in.
      Plus, as I said, Fulgora has space and power challenges, so building there has its own issues (which you can alleviate by delivering stuff from Nauvis...).
      If you want more detail you're best off asking in the Q&A thread, because I can't give detail until the embargo lifts.
