Not OP, but i have some tips for you, as i had problems with alt picking. I asked my guitar master how to improve. He gave me this song to learn. So basically you have to strike the strings from your wrist. Take your picking hand "glue" your bottom wrist whre you should palm mute and try to alt pick only moving your hand up down, not rotating, not playing with your elbow, only wrist. It will seem hard at first, but once you get it, its really easy. The harder part is synchronizing your both hands. Try different approaches, try fast, try slow, try iron maiden style gallop. Take note, that you should hear every note loud and clear. (depending on your guitar and pickups) I can almost alt pick perfectly at fast tempo now after 3 months, but i dont practice enough :) only an hour a day. Good luck, mate, you will get it. This song rocks! Also try tremolo picking this way. For example take this simple a minor pentatonic and strike every note 4 times, slow at first and go faster and faster. Tremolo + alt picking training. These two techniques complete one another and contribute to your skill very much. Now go and butcher some fast riffs!
