dude you make , hands down the best cades. I mean from the size for 2players, to included trackball, peripherals , easiest constructables. IF/WHEN I build a cade it's going to be one like this.
Yeah, Ideally this would be an option. You certainly can't play at night or you would keep people up. I imagine you could take it apart and disable the clicker, but if this was an audio cue or had a switch to disengage a spring or whatever it is, that would be great.
Because guns should be silent, right? ;) If you don't want the recoil sound, just buy the Aimtrack version without recoil. Or just unclick the recoil option in software. You don't need to take anything apart.
Wow this video's 5 years old and I'm just now getting into arcade building. Got both the aimtrak and the sinden light gun. Think the sinden's built better to be honest.
I prefer the quality of the sinden light guns more than the Aimtrak also, I gave up my Aimtrak guns and switched to sinden, but I also recently got rid of my sinden guns and now use Gun4ir systems.
hi there, I hope you can answer this question. I have this gun but it's for the PlayStation. If I use a PlayStation to usb convertor and buy the aim trak sensor bar. Do you think the gun would recognise the sensor?
pinkspider28 I am not sure on that, I am doubting it though. Are you saying it does not come with a sensor bar for the playstation? Is it doesn't need a ir bar to work with the playstation then it's definitely a different technology in the gun and therefore wouldn't work by just adding a USB adapter and ir bar.
eldon226 ok the name of the gun is the real arcade light gun if that helps. I got it second hand it comes with a foot pedal and a plug but don't know if it came with a sensor bar
pinkspider28 got should get the usb adapter first, if you have a wii you can use that sensor bar to test, do not play with that sensor bar though, it's not good enough to play with just test. You can even just point the gun towards sunlight and move it around to test.

joe husosky What version of RetroPie are you currently using? For this video I'm using the most updated version (4.2) I think when I do the video I might do it on a older version of RetroPie. I didn't need to do anything special to get mine working. Just plug and play really.
Purchased a brand new light gun, I followed install instructions for "Gunconf" but when I run the configuration it shows my gun is detected but when I press trigger to start calibration it says "Gun Detected. Loading Configuration..." then nothing happens. I press quit and get this error. Don't know what it means or what to do.
This light gun will work with any monitor. It's not perfect but it works good enough for me to get two o them. Your experience and preference may be different than mine

Yes, it does work with other games. I’ve only used it with mame though. I know others have have it with other emulators. The pointer can be turned off. I edited my response because my sinden gun is the one I’ve personally used on other emulators, not the Aimtrak.

Evo RetroGame If you are using the latest version 4.2 for RetroPie you should only need to plug the gun to a USB port, add your rom (game) to the appropriate folder, and then start playing. I am using mame advance 1.4 which use rom set version 0.106 this emulator is not part of retroarch so you'll need to configure you controls the first time you use mame advance by pressing TAB on your keyboard to open the menu. You can find more info trackball, spinner, and light gun setup at this link github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Spinners-and-Trackballs they are really just computer mouses. If this doesn't help, or you may be more comfortable with a video let me know and I'll try to have a video up next week on this topic.

Do not change the gun IDs. Leave them default, when I changed my gun IDs I couldn't get them to play two player games simultaneously. Also, I have my games separated, the guns do NOT work with mame 2003 so I use mame 2003 for all my trackball games. I only use mame advance 1.4 for light gun games, nothing else.
I have a double USB plug to use controllers like a hand held Xbox controller, but after seeing the light guns I'd rather have them! I semi configured them on emulation station, how do get them so they aren't configured? Or do I have to? I'd rather just plug these guns in their respective place and follow your steps in the other videos. Anything I need to do special since I configured the hand held USB controllers? They don't work on games, but I can use them to toggle through emulation station. Hope I'm explaining myself right so you can understand...
nova396 you just need to configure the guns, the system separates all your different controls so they don't interfere with setting from a different controller type. You'll still need a controller with these guns connected for navigating the settings. The guns are setup to only work with games that support them.

nova396 when I say controller I'm talking about either a game pad, joystick, or keyboard (anything that can be used to navigate through emulationstation menus). You cannot use the guns to navigate menus, just play games that are compatible with with guns.

I need help with the light gun config. I bought an Aimtrak Gun and it seemed to set up fine then when I select the gun config the screen comes up, it detects the gun and the screen stays on the configuring and nothing at all happens....

Nick Kilcoyne yes, the crossair can be hidden, however, you'll need to tweak your settings perfect to and do a good calibration to be able to aim for enough for playing.

Hmm, I just noticed you have white controllers under the cabinet. How do you have all of that hooked up when there are only so many USB ports on the pi? I have the trackball plugged in, the joystick/buttons plugged in to USB, and both controllers plugged in to USB. That would take up all the USB connections, do I'm not sure how you have these hooked up...
nova396 the controllers get connected via Bluetooth, and only when I play 3 or 4 player games. The second gun is connected to a switchable usb port I built, so the second gun and the trackball share a USB port, so I know I want to play a game with both guns I turn off the trackball because one one can be connected at a time. A simpler method you could use is to just use a powered USB hub. The reason I went the more complicated route is because the fuse in the power adapter is meant to support up to 10 amps and with all the stuff I was powering I was already close to that limit.
eldon226 I hate to be a nuisance, hope you don't mind all these questions... By switchable, is that what that wire is in the back? How does it know which one is plugged in? Or does it not matter since a trackball and light gun are operating the same way? I don't know what you mean by a powered usb hub. I have everything powered off my power strip.
nova396 I have a button on the back that when pressed gun number 2 gets activated, when depressed trackball is activated. The switch turns on and off relays and the relays are what control what device will be connected to the shared USB port. A powered USB hub will give you additional ports so you can have all your devices plugged in at the same time. It comes with its own power adapter that you'll need to plug in a outlet.
eldon226 But if I free up the two Xbox controllers using the usb connection on the pi, I should be able to use those two USB connections for the guns instead of the 2 handheld controllers, with no issues, correct?
Kris Kleinknecht the only other emulator I tried it with was mame 2003, it does not work with it. My trackball does though. I can only get my gun to work with mame advance, I prefer 1.4
It does work as a mouse, I did have trouble getting both to work simultaneously, I don't remember exactly what I needed to do for both to work. The device IDs can be changed using the software for the gun though.
ComandanteJ I'll test that later and let you know for sure. The games I play normally automatically reload. I do know if the gun is not pointed at the screen /ir sensor then it will NOT recoil when you squeeze the trigger.
ComandanteJ I tested it with area51, once you are out of ammo the recoil will continue to function if you squeeze the trigger while pointing at the screen.
Hey, thanks for testing it! That's a bit of a bummer, if my memory serves me correctly, in the Arcade games the recoil would stop when you ran out of bullets, making it a lot more useful and inmersing. Oh well, it's still a kick ass gun for a good price, i guess i'll order one from playasia.
I'm having an issue with my controllers working. I configure them fine and they work for menus, just not in games. If I unplug my joystick and buttons on the arcade in the USB port and switch the wireless USB dongle into that joystick port, the controller's work in the games. Is there a way to keep the configure for joystick and buttons and allow the wireless controllers to work too without unplugging USB ports?
nova396 plug in all the controllers that you want to use and configure each different type. For mame, depending which emulator you'll be using you'll need to configure each controller in the mame settings. Each controller will need to be assigned to a player. Also keep in mind that mame might have two places to configure your control, one for navigating the menu and the other playing the games.
eldon226 I've configured the controller's in emulation station, they just won't work in games, I'm any system of games unless I plug it in Port zero. What do you think about giving me an in depth instruction in email? I've spent over a month on these Controller's and am familiar with some things, I just am at my wit's end. IR bar is mounted above the monitor to track where the gun is being pointed. Doesn't matter what monitor is being used because the computer see the USB gun as a regular computer mouse.
trying to get aimtrak to work with some games and it moves all over the place but the mouse works fine.are their any suggestions you might have will fix this?
cam white you might need to disable the auto gain and manually set it to a lower number and see how that works out for you. This is most likely the issue if you're using the gun in a lit room.
nice work.. but i would have had wiring lead into the cabinet from the bottom so no plugs were visible outside. unless you leave the guns unplugged whilst not using them.. which in that case, i would have used two guitar lead male plugs at the front and had a sliding panel with the audio female on the fascia inside and then guns become detachable with ease and convenience... and... the ladies would have dug the smoothness of how you INSERT the plugs into the cabinet at the front, mouthing an o-face and biting down, finishing off with a tigers growl.. and leave a stool in front of the cabinet so you can lift one leg up and repeat the same steps above.. and add a hipthrust at the end..

Commander Osis No, I'm not using a hub, but if you attempt this you should use a powered hub or a separate power adapter for the ir led bar. Mine is being powered by a separate power adapter. The ir led bar does not need to plug in a USB port, it only needs power to turn on the leds. All my ports on the pi3 are now being used though. P1, P2, trackball, and gun.

buffalo716 No, it's not hard to calibrate, you can do it on your raspberry pi setup. The mouse pointer must be visible for you to do it though. I used a desktop (PIXEL) to set mine up only because it used my entire screen area, then I switched back to RetroPie.
You ever get house of the dead to run for Dreamcast on this? I have seen the pi 3 run many Dreamcast games just fine yet haven't seen a video where some one is running house of the dead on raspberry pi 3. I can't see why people would be able to run say crazy taxi for Dreamcast but not house of the dead.

Are these guns gyroscopic or optical? or in other words, does it actually *see* the part of the screen you're shooting or use a gyroscope to keep track of where it was, has been and is now as you move?
Inorite I know it has a infrared light bar, similar to the Nintendo wii light bar. I have might light bar mounted between the speakers on the top panel.

BaradaNels yes, see the link below. I used a 36v power supply, I don't remember how much amps (I think 4 though). I used the same power supply for both guns. The feedback use to fail after about 4 to 5 minutes of normal game play but I no longer have that issue. I solved that by using the configuration tool for the gun to lower the amount of power being sent to it. While you're at the main screen where all the emulators and games are listed press F4 and let me know if that takes you to the terminal, it'll be a black screen with some texts.
i think the aimtrack are well over priced and have poor aim and detection so ill be going a different route - ill be putting a light gun together myself , the gun is non other from Operation wolf , ( i was lucky enough to pick up one in the uk , and italy over the years which are rare here, not sure about the US) with be using a wii remote and a dolphin bar , the insides of the wii will be gutted and placed inside the operation wolf gun, the gun already has a grenade button on the gun, gun sight and hook up the 5volts for the recoil and trigger, the OP gun has an industrial solenoid recoil which feels like a real Uzi machine gun, pretty cool and just the best recoil( check out operation wolf arcade and see the gun) i was able to pick up the parts of an original Operation wolf arcade from italy , the original Marquee , coin door, the gun base with the instruction layout , and of course the Gun with its base and coin start button. great video dude, love operation wolf and thunderbolt !
I just got this several days ago. Now, they're not pixel-perfect light guns, so I'd probably recommend using a crosshair in most games, but the aiming is definitely there. The bigger the monitor, the more accurate it will be. It's still way better than using a Wiimote and a USB sensor bar to play shooters. If you plan playing SEGA Model 2 shooters, I would suggest downloading the "M2 Borderless Program" and forcing the emulator's resolution at 640 x 480. It freezes at fullscreen, otherwise. Also important is the way I align the sensor bar. If I lean the bar more towards the bottom, from up top the monitor, calibration will work most of the time.
I don't fully understand what you're trying to ask me. You can plug the ir bar into your raspberry pi usb port for power, but I recommend you use a separate 5v power adapter for it instead. If you have a good power source you can enable 1200mah instead of the 600mah default on the pi.
Sorry, I did not explain myself correctly. The IR bar is connected to 5v, but does the gun need any additional power? Or only plug into USB port? Thanks for answer
endlessbeast The gun does not need any additional power to work, however, if you have the recoil module in your gun, you'll need additional power for the recoil portion to work.

@@iriemars8125 I can't say about knock off dolphin bars but the real ones are pretty good I use it a lot. I gave my aimtrack away. It's sensor is frustratingly picky, it's aim is almost always a little off no matter what you try and do, you have constant trouble shooting problem after trouble shooting problem with the damn thing, often it will just not work because "Reasons" and you have to stop your game and just you will spend more time troubleshooting problems with it than you will actually playing any games with it a lot of the time. It was just a wasted bit of money for me so I wouldn't suggest it to anyone; but some people don't seem to have any issues with it. For me though I hate it.

Eldon226 How were you able to get that track ball and gun to work . i have basically the same setup but i can only get the track ball to work properly. i assigned the gun to device 3 trying to get it to not conflict but i just can get it to work. i followed your other video on Mame 1.4 rc settings and thats all correct. my cab sees it just can get it to be fluid like yours
Do not change the gun IDs. Leave them default, when I changed my gun IDs I couldn't get them to play two player games simultaneously. Also, I have my games separated, the guns do NOT work with mame 2003 so I use mame 2003 for all my trackball games. I only use mame advance 1.4 for light gun games, nothing else.

I have a double USB plug to use controllers like a hand held Xbox controller, but after seeing the light guns I'd rather have them! I semi configured them on emulation station, how do get them so they aren't configured? Or do I have to? I'd rather just plug these guns in their respective place and follow your steps in the other videos. Anything I need to do special since I configured the hand held USB controllers? They don't work on games, but I can use them to toggle through emulation station. Hope I'm explaining myself right so you can understand...
nova396 you just need to configure the guns, the system separates all your different controls so they don't interfere with setting from a different controller type. You'll still need a controller with these guns connected for navigating the settings. The guns are setup to only work with games that support them.
eldon226 When you say controller, i can just use the joystick and buttons on my box, right? Or are you talking about something else? What I wanted to change was the controller's that looked like Xbox controllers (gamesir) and just plug those guns in instead in the dual USB ports?
nova396 when I say controller I'm talking about either a game pad, joystick, or keyboard (anything that can be used to navigate through emulationstation menus). You cannot use the guns to navigate menus, just play games that are compatible with with guns.

jny78 If you are using the latest version 4.2 for RetroPie you should only need to plug the gun to a USB port, add your rom (game) to the appropriate folder, and then start playing. I am using mame advance 1.4 which use rom set version 0.106 this emulator is not part of retroarch so you'll need to configure you controls the first time you use mame advance by pressing TAB on your keyboard to open the menu. You can find more info trackball, spinner, and light gun setup at this link github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Spinners-and-Trackballs they are really just computer mouses. If this doesn't help, or you may be more comfortable with a video let me know and I'll try to have a video up next week on this topic.

Nick Kilcoyne yes, the crossair can be hidden, however, you'll need to tweak your settings perfect to and do a good calibration to be able to aim for enough for playing.

Anthony Persichini You don't need that, you only need the area51.Zip and the area51 folder with the area51.chd file in it.
Hmm, I just noticed you have white controllers under the cabinet. How do you have all of that hooked up when there are only so many USB ports on the pi? I have the trackball plugged in, the joystick/buttons plugged in to USB, and both controllers plugged in to USB. That would take up all the USB connections, do I'm not sure how you have these hooked up...
nova396 the controllers get connected via Bluetooth, and only when I play 3 or 4 player games. The second gun is connected to a switchable usb port I built, so the second gun and the trackball share a USB port, so I know I want to play a game with both guns I turn off the trackball because one one can be connected at a time. A simpler method you could use is to just use a powered USB hub. The reason I went the more complicated route is because the fuse in the power adapter is meant to support up to 10 amps and with all the stuff I was powering I was already close to that limit.
eldon226 I hate to be a nuisance, hope you don't mind all these questions... By switchable, is that what that wire is in the back? How does it know which one is plugged in? Or does it not matter since a trackball and light gun are operating the same way? I don't know what you mean by a powered usb hub. I have everything powered off my power strip.
nova396 I have a button on the back that when pressed gun number 2 gets activated, when depressed trackball is activated. The switch turns on and off relays and the relays are what control what device will be connected to the shared USB port. A powered USB hub will give you additional ports so you can have all your devices plugged in at the same time. It comes with its own power adapter that you'll need to plug in a outlet.
eldon226 But if I free up the two Xbox controllers using the usb connection on the pi, I should be able to use those two USB connections for the guns instead of the 2 handheld controllers, with no issues, correct?

Kris Kleinknecht the only other emulator I tried it with was mame 2003, it does not work with it. My trackball does though. I can only get my gun to work with mame advance, I prefer 1.4

It does work as a mouse, I did have trouble getting both to work simultaneously, I don't remember exactly what I needed to do for both to work. The device IDs can be changed using the software for the gun though.

Does MAME tel the pistol when to recoil? I mean, if you run out of ammo, does it still recoil when you pull the trigger?
ComandanteJ I'll test that later and let you know for sure. The games I play normally automatically reload. I do know if the gun is not pointed at the screen /ir sensor then it will NOT recoil when you squeeze the trigger.

Hey, thanks for testing it! That's a bit of a bummer, if my memory serves me correctly, in the Arcade games the recoil would stop when you ran out of bullets, making it a lot more useful and inmersing. Oh well, it's still a kick ass gun for a good price, i guess i'll order one from playasia.
I'm having an issue with my controllers working. I configure them fine and they work for menus, just not in games. If I unplug my joystick and buttons on the arcade in the USB port and switch the wireless USB dongle into that joystick port, the controller's work in the games. Is there a way to keep the configure for joystick and buttons and allow the wireless controllers to work too without unplugging USB ports?
nova396 plug in all the controllers that you want to use and configure each different type. For mame, depending which emulator you'll be using you'll need to configure each controller in the mame settings. Each controller will need to be assigned to a player. Also keep in mind that mame might have two places to configure your control, one for navigating the menu and the other playing the games.
eldon226 I've configured the controller's in emulation station, they just won't work in games, I'm any system of games unless I plug it in Port zero. What do you think about giving me an in depth instruction in email? I've spent over a month on these Controller's and am familiar with some things, I just am at my wit's end. IR bar is mounted above the monitor to track where the gun is being pointed. Doesn't matter what monitor is being used because the computer see the USB gun as a regular computer mouse.

cam white you might need to disable the auto gain and manually set it to a lower number and see how that works out for you. This is most likely the issue if you're using the gun in a lit room.

nice work.. but i would have had wiring lead into the cabinet from the bottom so no plugs were visible outside.
unless you leave the guns unplugged whilst not using them.. which in that case, i would have used two guitar lead male plugs at the front and had a sliding panel with the audio female on the fascia inside and then guns become detachable with ease and convenience... and...
the ladies would have dug the smoothness of how you INSERT the plugs into the cabinet at the front, mouthing an o-face and biting down, finishing off with a tigers growl.. and leave a stool in front of the cabinet so you can lift one leg up and repeat the same steps above.. and add a hipthrust at the end..

I was thinking about doing this but didnt want to spend the money to find out it didnt work. Thank you for taking the risk and showing it working. Did you use a usb powered hub to connect it to the pi? I imagine youre running out of native ports on the pi itself.
Commander Osis No, I'm not using a hub, but if you attempt this you should use a powered hub or a separate power adapter for the ir led bar. Mine is being powered by a separate power adapter. The ir led bar does not need to plug in a USB port, it only needs power to turn on the leds. All my ports on the pi3 are now being used though. P1, P2, trackball, and gun.

buffalo716 No, it's not hard to calibrate, you can do it on your raspberry pi setup. The mouse pointer must be visible for you to do it though. I used a desktop (PIXEL) to set mine up only because it used my entire screen area, then I switched back to RetroPie.
You ever get house of the dead to run for Dreamcast on this? I have seen the pi 3 run many Dreamcast games just fine yet haven't seen a video where some one is running house of the dead on raspberry pi 3. I can't see why people would be able to run say crazy taxi for Dreamcast but not house of the dead.

Are these guns gyroscopic or optical? or in other words, does it actually *see* the part of the screen you're shooting or use a gyroscope to keep track of where it was, has been and is now as you move?
Inorite I know it has a infrared light bar, similar to the Nintendo wii light bar. I have might light bar mounted between the speakers on the top panel.

BaradaNels yes, see the link below. I used a 36v power supply, I don't remember how much amps (I think 4 though). I used the same power supply for both guns. The feedback use to fail after about 4 to 5 minutes of normal game play but I no longer have that issue. I solved that by using the configuration tool for the gun to lower the amount of power being sent to it. I think it just use to get hot and needed to cool down to work again.

While you're at the main screen where all the emulators and games are listed press F4 and let me know if that takes you to the terminal, it'll be a black screen with some texts.
i think the aimtrack are well over priced and have poor aim and detection so ill be going a different route - ill be putting a light gun together myself , the gun is non other from Operation wolf , ( i was lucky enough to pick up one in the uk , and italy over the years which are rare here, not sure about the US) with be using a wii remote and a dolphin bar , the insides of the wii will be gutted and placed inside the operation wolf gun, the gun already has a grenade button on the gun, gun sight and hook up the 5volts for the recoil and trigger, the OP gun has an industrial solenoid recoil which feels like a real Uzi machine gun, pretty cool and just the best recoil( check out operation wolf arcade and see the gun) i was able to pick up the parts of an original Operation wolf arcade from italy , the original Marquee , coin door, the gun base with the instruction layout , and of course the Gun with its base and coin start button. great video dude, love operation wolf and thunderbolt !
I just got this several days ago. Now, they're not pixel-perfect light guns, so I'd probably recommend using a crosshair in most games, but the aiming is definitely there. The bigger the monitor, the more accurate it will be. It's still way better than using a Wiimote and a USB sensor bar to play shooters.
If you plan playing SEGA Model 2 shooters, I would suggest downloading the "M2 Borderless Program" and forcing the emulator's resolution at 640 x 480. It freezes at fullscreen, otherwise.
Also important is the way I align the sensor bar. If I lean the bar more towards the bottom, from up top the monitor, calibration will work most of the time.

I don't fully understand what you're trying to ask me. You can plug the ir bar into your raspberry pi usb port for power, but I recommend you use a separate 5v power adapter for it instead. If you have a good power source you can enable 1200mah instead of the 600mah default on the pi.

endlessbeast The gun does not need any additional power to work, however, if you have the recoil module in your gun, you'll need additional power for the recoil portion to work.

@@iriemars8125 I can't say about knock off dolphin bars but the real ones are pretty good I use it a lot. I gave my aimtrack away.
It's sensor is frustratingly picky, it's aim is almost always a little off no matter what you try and do, you have constant trouble shooting problem after trouble shooting problem with the damn thing, often it will just not work because "Reasons" and you have to stop your game and just you will spend more time troubleshooting problems with it than you will actually playing any games with it a lot of the time.
It was just a wasted bit of money for me so I wouldn't suggest it to anyone; but some people don't seem to have any issues with it. For me though I hate it.
