    I remember playing PES a long time ago, must have been 2011 or 2012. I was laughing at how the players moved, looked totally unrealistic to me.
    I kept on playing FIFA until FIFA18, but as every year, the AI was too easy to beat, and tactics just didn't translate on the pitch. I gave PES 2018 a try and was impressed. It made me realize that FIFA hasn't really improved since the first "next-gen" game in 2010/2011.
    I look at PES 2019 now, and from the gameplay that I've seen, it has to be the best football game ever made in terms of realism (graphics and overall gameplay + tactical aspects).

      Ole Gadda you have literally just described mine and a mates feelings and choice we are both going to pes this year after playing a lot of pes 2018 in the past 2 weeks. (Every night) Fifa is boring and just literally a money pit for teenagers on ultimate team. Pre scripted shocking gameplay you can literally see and feel Fifa cheat you pes is a breath of fresh air! If pes has the licenses Fifa would struggle against it gameplay wise.

      PES2018 is best footy game ever made (and the most difficult to master). PES2019 I think will be more fun but can't really judge till the full game is out.

      100% Agree. I have been a PES mega fan since my first pes which was Pro Evolution Soccer 4. I kept playing pes all the way up to PES 2013 Then stopped and changed to FIFA 14. I continued playing FIFA to FIFA 18 but which extremly dissapointed me with how FIFA 18 Become in terms of the defending and lack of improvement from the game in recent years. So I gave the PES 2019 demo a try and so far I have been so impressed with the graphics and realism from the game that i actually think it will be better than FIFA 19 this year by a distance!

      I've played PES since forever. I didnt have a console for earlier games but I went to gaming rooms to play it. I did play FIFA on my pc but i always dreamed about playing PES, so when it came out on PC , my marriage with FIFA was done. PES has always been the better game, always.

    Well I think pes 2019 is way better then 2018 but it’s just my opinion, in terms of gameplay and graphics it’s look more serious in a good way , it’s more like real life and what you watch on tv , and this is how it should be , if you want something more arcade so you have the other game , I think this game is the best football game made ever , I mean last year graphics was shame , a lot of ping pong passes , and I don’t no why but in this year the players movement seems more similar to the real life players maybe because of the pace and first touch , the only thing that they should change is the AI they have to be more smart , they doing mistakes sometimes, like running to the line and lose the ball...

      Well summarized. PES 2019 is a better football simulation with dumber AI on the defensive end. Because of that, Fifa fans will unfortunately stay away from the game which will probably impact PES sales

    • @Kuruzkuruz

      - Defenders don't "swim" around any more, controlling them is way better than in the previous game. AI can no longer pull your CB out to the middle of the field and than hoof the ball over his head for an easy goal;
      - the players don't look like they had a light heart-attack when you switch to them, I've been wanting for this to come to reality for a very long time;
      - the pace is almost identical as in real life;
      - passes are less precise than before, which makes them pretty real. No more first-touch pinball around the field, that's history now.
      For me, this is a lot better than 2018 and it's easily the best football game ever.

    Going from PES 18 to 19 is like going from FIFA 18 to PES 18 for me. Agree 100% that they've upped the "sim" aspect. Same feeling I had last year after switching games. Felt awful at first tbh, but after a week or 2 I never wanted to go back to FIFA.

      Yeap though I do totally understand curious FIFA players giving PES a go with all good unbiased intentions and thinking "man, this is shit!"
      Same goes the other way round. Depends what you are used to. FIFA can feel fast, floaty and arcadey, PES can feel slow, restrictive and unresponsive.

      I must have been playing 2018 at speed +1. When I change the demo to +1 it feels much more like 2018. That's a good thing! :) Combined with the game length hack I think it's now a better game than 2018.

      to me i think its another pes 2018 with bad kits graphics

  • @phil2877
    @phil2877 6 лет назад +3

    Main points of improvements:
    - Graphics, stunning. Looks like proper 4K now with the improved texture of the grass, and the lighting + HDR usage just makes everything look real. 2018 was a mile behind Fifa 18 graphics, now it seems to have leapt in front.
    - Ball physics. Just seems to move a lot more realistically.
    - Goalkeepers. Animations seem to have been improved, rather than being unrealistically slow and hanging, it's more of a late and quicker movement. Don't seem to have as many issue catching high balls and crosses, just punched it out a bit unnecessarily before.
    - Crosses. No longer feel helpless defending crosses, and they seem to have a more realistic flight when pressing once for a normal cross.
    Personally prefer more of the touches to make it feel more realistic as it makes you think twice about going for the more difficult pass. I think these things you'll probably get more used to after more time with the game.

    It's pretty hard to come back to PES 2018 after playing PES 2019's demo. Some very annoying issues of PES18 seem to have been fixed, particularly the robotic nature of the gameplay. It feels like you have more impact on the game than before, the players feel lighter and more agile in their movement.
    For exemple when an opponent take the ball from your feet, you are nor stuck in a "i lost the ball, ughhh, oh well..." slow animation anymore, you can take the ball back almost immediatly if you have quick reflexes ! Good positionning seem to be rewarded by more interceptions, i even deflected several passes with tackles, which was extremely rare in the previous game. You can make a pass more quickly if there's an opponent coming at you, which is very useful since the AI still fucks up your passes by directing them to the wrong players routinely...
    I've noticed the skills animations seem to have been modified a bit, some are more efficient than before, some less.

  • @EwokTemplarv1

    I think if the demo was a 10 min game vs the AI we would be able to get a much better feel for the game. Still think generally its a step up from last year, having to think about touch and a players weaker foot use, no more OP crosses, first time shots don't hit the target 90% of the time anymore which is also good. I think the tackling of forward players like Messi, Dembele etc needs to be toned down they shouldn't be tackling as successfully as like a Pique.

    As long as Ottamendi didn't catch you with ease I'd say that's fair enough. You can't compare sprint speed with the ball and sprint speed without the ball. Not saying there hasn't been an issue with catchups, just that it has been exaggerated and misdiagnosed by some people.
    What speedy players do on the counter that they can't do in PES is their first touch moves the ball out 15 yards ahead into space, allowing them to accelerate way ahead of any defender without having to take another touch on the ball. Then when they start dribbling normally the defender will always start to catch up. Every touch on the ball slows them down.
    I know there is the double tap on the sprint button, which helps, but it's not quite the same as Rashford knocking the ball 15 yards with his first touch and just sprinting effortlessly away from his marker.

    I felt a bit similar to how spoony felt. Not as gripping as pes 18. But, considering that we have but 5 minutes per game on the demo and from what I have seen in approximately 5 hours of game play is that master league is going to be sublime. I faced quite a few injuries in the 5 hour game play, which I believe was because of the gegenpress tactic which I tend to love. Some of the players almost gave up playing towards the end making the last 10 minutes of game time as exciting as it is in real life as all its going to take is determination, some stamina, skill and a moment of magic to turn things around (in full version with proper 12 minute games minimum).
    I remember playing a pes 18 Master League with 16 or 17 players in the squad and getting away with it. Now, I feel that it's going to be impossible to do the same. And couple that with potentially fixed transfer system according to Konami, it makes a rather 'peach of a game' rightly said by our beloved (and unfortunate) jim beglin and Peter drewry.

      So does it make a difference if you ran the entire first half in comparison to if you were to conserve energy by not running? I just don't want the energy to drop just because it is 80min mark then your players will get tired.

    • @AayushKumar-ql8vl
      @AayushKumar-ql8vl 6 лет назад +1

      nefarious k yes it does. You can use 'counter target' on a player for the first half to save energy for the second.

    I was only half-paying attention to the video, but what jumped out at me was 7:22 to 7:30, that sense of realistic movement, momentum, and AI reaction is something that'd never happen in FIFA. The way the players hesitated and you can feel the weight of their body shift was so realistic and refreshing, in FIFA, they'd just swarm you and you'd end up losing the ball.

  • @aathishbhagwandhin3465
    @aathishbhagwandhin3465 6 лет назад +1

    Spot on with the review! Every touch is much more deliberate than before, kills what's left of ping-pong passing so the speed feels amazing. The thing that most impressed me was the fantastic ball physics. The ball moves, curls and swerves exactly as a real ball would. I guess those of us who play football would really appreciate that.

    Agree on the quality of PES 2018. However, I remember there was a lot of controversy over some gameplay features on the first week of release (e.g. distinct lack of fouls, defenders running away from the ball). PES 2019 seems to have rectified some of the issues with PES 2018, alongside a graphical overhaul, new animations and improved shooting. Having said that, I am very concerned with the way the AI attacks - if the AI in the release code is the same as the demo then playing against the CPU may become a dull and frustrating experience very quickly. Despite this, it seems to me that France and AC Milan do not always try and attack through wide positions and tend to play the ball inside when players are in space. Have you noticed this, or anything similar, when playing against France or AC Milan?

    • @SpoonyPizzas
      @SpoonyPizzas  6 лет назад

      Nathan Mathias I'll check that out mate. My biggest concern now is that tactics appear broken.

    • @CnathanM
      @CnathanM 6 лет назад

      I completely agree. In my opinion, if Konami don't at least release a patch that partially changes the way the AI play in the release code then PES 2019 won't be anywhere near the quality football simulation it should be.

      One of the most frustrating things I found about PES 2018 was (while playing on legendary) that even championship level defenders had the speed of bolt and the passing accuracy of Xabi Alonso.

      Thanks dude.
      I don't hate on FIFA for the sake of hating (like some do). I want both games to be amazing and I'm sure you're the same. I'm fed up with seeing FIFA 18 being exactly the same as FIFA 16 and FIFA 19 looks no different! EA are getting lazy mate and I'm fed up with it, not just this franchise but other franchises too. You can tell they've got the CL and thought that'll be enough for great sales instead of developing the gameplay. They've added in a gimmicky new shoot function and some modes people will never play - survival mode? Seriously. What next Battle Royale?
      I just tell it like it is.... or try to, obviously at the end of the day it's just an opinion... everyone is entitled to theirs and I'm not saying I'm right for everyone, I'm just sharing what I think and usually try and show/display what I'm talking about to back it up.

    Your point is right bout the gameplay feel slow coz of the extra touches, quite subtle but it makes a lot of differece. I like it when u no longer can spam thru pass and long ball like ping ponh playing as the ball trejectory seems so unpredictable. Even the ball that went into the net is not 'repeatative' in terms of the 'allowed' angle.

    I think the demo is fantastic.
    My two gripes are...
    5 minute games when everyone and their dog knows PES is a 10min game minimum.
    The AI only.play towards the wings...and won't try the more killer ball through the middle.
    I am not too sure I have seen all the new roles in action to their fullest like Orchestrator.. But Salahs role roaming winger is fantastic.

    Absolutely ripping review!!
    Agreed with the vast majority of what you said. I’m very excited actually.
    1 small point I’ve experienced slightly differently - I’ve had some keepers pull off some absolute worldies as I’m about to celebrate a goal, but to be fair they’ve all been by world class keepers, which is all good.
    In 2018 every keeper pulled off multiple worldies every game.
    You almost lost me when you went with the comparison to 2018 at the end, as in, “oh no c’mon man don’t say that” Lol - but that bit where you said you understand the reasons others would put 2019 above and it comes down to personal choice as to what you’re looking for..... extremely well said!!!!!!
    (I’m in the latter category obviously. Lol).
    And I qualify all that by saying....... SO FAR.
    (It is a demo after all. Lol)
    Keep up the good work Spoondogg!! :)

    I’ve tried so hard to enjoy the demo but just can’t get into it enough. Seems to be plagued by the same issues like playing a one two to always create an opportunity (AI doesn’t track the run), slow motion dive animations from the goalkeepers which don’t feel like they’ve been updated for a good few years, and players with a turning circles and reactions of a JCB.

    Yo! you fucking nailed it Spoony!! some people are blaming the game's mechanics about "input lag, the game is not responsive enough, passing accuracy toned down, dribbling much harder because they can no longer drible past the defence with a simple change of direction + r1 ( even tho you can still do that as it is shown in the video) and tbh its making me mad because the game as it is now with some minor changes is absolute brilliant, and im a afraid they'd try to "fix" those chnages in the final build. 10/10 review.
    PD: i still think the chase mechanic needs to have a lil bit of risk/reward in terms that if you go towards someone holding the A+R1 button like a madman your player should be easier to drible past him as it was in pes 2018 same when holding the X/square button for the second player, that way people would play more safety and think about position first and then steal the ball at the right moment.
    PD2: I was afraid of the catch up bug being fixed, but now seeing how the dribbling mechanic is implemented, im totally pleased on how the game is being played.

    Good review although I beg to differ (probably because I don't mind playing master league) . I've just played online games so far and pes 2019 is by far superior imo. Graphic, movements, lighting, sense of simulation, shots, goalkeepers and responsiveness. Having said this, there are a some changes I wish Konami made.
    1. Headbutts seem to lack of proper strength. Sometimes your player is alone right in front of the goal and instead of smashing the ball in he comes out with a weak ridiculous lob.
    2. Fast players don't look so fast in open spaces. Salah has to outrun slower defender.
    3. Music and menus are bloody dull.

    • @SpoonyPizzas
      @SpoonyPizzas  6 лет назад

      Haha, some great points... then I was like headbutts? LOL! Headbutts is when you ram your head into someone elses head on purpose lol ;) but it's cool, you just made me laugh with that one. I assume you meant "heading" seems to lack proper strength.
      I agree with all your points apart from the heading as it's usually calculated on cross speed, timing, player direction etc... they can smash headers in but so many factors have to be perfect. Tutorial coming on heading when full game drops :)

    Spoony pizzas you absolutely pointed out the cons,brilliantly . I have been following all your videos since pes 18.Especially the AI attacking on the wings in pes 19 demo is very stupid . And 2)the pace of pacy players like salah, etc is negligible. Theres no much difference between a slow defender and pacy winger.

      Spoony Pizzas I haven’t played PES since Pro Evo 4/5/6 days, I just think the last few FIFA’s have been lazy, I’m not against FIFA, just don’t see the appeal this year. Not going to buy it for the sake of it, rather put my money to PES, if they can get more people playing their game, it should kick Fifa to actually put some real effort to change their servers and constant gameplay issues, would be great to have two great football simulator games!

    Spoony - That MAJOR flaw you talked about - being keen to attack wide too often - would annoy me very much. It is indeed a major flaw. Konami may or may not provide a patch to correct this, however going by their past record for being lazy, I don't think they will.
    But do Konami even KNOW about this tendency yet ? If they don't, and it looks as though they don't - otherwise they wouldn't have put the demo out as it is - then we need to tell them before the actual release. Will you be kind enough to inform them on our behalf ? I don't know the developer / programmer's email address , or Adam Bhatti's or whoever is in charge of marketing the game. If this isn't corrected, I will stick with my trusty PES 2017 - which I believe is the best of the series on the PS4.

    Only thing that has to change is the AI. It has to be smarter. It has been improved a bit but it still needs more improvement. Not in terms of making it stronger, but smarter. The AI should at least read the player better, but it shouldn't be too strong. Also for some reasons the AI attacks only on the wings with a lot low driven crosses Apart from that, probably one of the best football simulations.

Although I did enjoy being be able to put n a good though ball and leave the defence for dead. This for me only happened 1 ever 50 games cause the AI defence was so good. PES 2019 seems a little to easy, could be easier than 2017. Which will be a shame. Still those graphics are best yet. Good review. Thanks Spoony

      Give manual ( unassisted ) passing a try. It takes getting used to, but as you become familiar with it, you can do some great passing moves, especially weighted through balls, and passes into space - which I love doing. Stick with it, and your pass completion ratio will improve. Like everything else - practice makes perfect - and it is worth the effort.

    I like your videos and also watch you stream sometimes. One thing I find interesting is that you said it's simulation while the gameplay video showing here is pretty arcady to watch. I don't play FIFA and have been playing PES since early J-League Winning Eleven days(before WE reached western market) and yet I would never call PES sim. I think part of the fun many people find in PES is the smooth and fast gameplay. A lot of people who play PES don't play football in real life or even follow real life football and yet they love the game because it's fun. Many of they mistake that for realism, especially compared to FIFA which is also arcady. All those tiki-taka one touch 1-2 attacks and running around(with super cancel sometimes) to block pass route is nothing like playing football in real life. If it's sim, you'd see probably only around 60% pass completion rate and less than 25% crossing completion rate. But that would make the game less fun and responsive. So yeah the game is fun for sure but calling it sim is a bit misleading. The only football simulation I see that's close to real life is probably the match engine in Football Manager but that's another totally different genre. In fact, action based football game probably will never be sim because of the condensed and shortened game time. 10min a match basically means you are just playing the highlight of a football game which is 90min in real life. You'd probably see ridiculous goal count if you play the game for 90min real time.

  • @trza49er
    @trza49er 6 лет назад +1

    It's a marginal step forward in terms of gameplay. The graphics and presentation do look quite a bit better though. There's still not enough midfield action for my liking. The back four just drop back and leave sooooooooo much space.
    Better than FIFA, but I'll probably pass this year since I played so much PES last year.

    There is input lag in passes and skills online and offline.

    This is the start of a pes full football sim,all u said is in place. Considering the demo and lenght of a game. every thing in 2019 is prefect for what thay are trying to create but the defending(coz of that retarded ai must attacks on the wing) killed all the good stuff this pes has(for me). Soo good to move,pass,shoot,the nets as u said,god its such a little thing but gives so much. And after 3 mins of enjoying and now playing to win(against ai) all forgoten... Every attack predictable and got bored... So 2018 for the joy,for the play,for the tactic,for football and as for 2019 its a very very promising start and it will be in the future next lvl of realism and simulation. Once again spoony,thank you,ur insight is objective and very helpfull. All the best mate!

      Spoony - have you ever played with manual passing ? I always used assisted 1 or 2, until I read a post on one of the forums stating that this guy recommends to everyone to use manual. He said it was more realistic, and you have to play with more skill and concentration, as in real life. He said it takes a while to master it, and at first passes will go astray a lot, but with experience your successful pass ratio improves.
      So I gave it a go, and found that he's right ! Now I ALWAYS play on manual passing, and wouldn't think of going back to assisted. One of the things I like most about manual, is that you can play gorgeous weighted passes into space, and watch the player(s) run after it. Really realistic.

    I haven't played PES since 2016 and to me it hasn't felt that good to me since Konami changed the engine to Fox in 2014 it just doesn't seem like the game I once loved. I've played FIFA since the PS4 released due to PES 2014 not being released on it and since I've not seen anything from PES this generation to make me want to go back to it. The gameplay just doesn't feel the same to me and I don't know whether it's because I haven't played it for so long but I just can't go back to it.

      Fair enough mate :) I'd recommend giving it a good 2 or 3 hours worth of play - reason being, as humans we don't like change :) it's about breaking that resistance. I respect your opinion though dude and whatever you play, enjoy! :)

      That's correct, it's fixed in full game but before you launch demo there is a statement that some players are no longer there (same applies for Malcom). Cheers

    Hi I was a fifa player. I got fed up with fifas game play and decided to buy pes. But I am struggling in online mode. I find it so hard because of the first touch mechanic. I don't want to go back to fifa again also I don't want to lose interest in pes 19 either. Can you make some tutorials because it is hard to find a pes video in you tube.

    and really the AI and difficulty levels are frustrating, at this rate pes 19 will be a big flop if the above things are not rectified in the main version. Guys whats your opinion about changes for the main version, will konami bring many changes or some changes to rectify the faults? Is it possible i have no idea can we expect those changes?

    2019 is incredible! First touch is perfect! More strategic, better jostling, more physical, more animations.. great! Great! Great! I was having so much fun! The grass isn't better than FIFA's! I'm still waiting. I was going to skip this game because I'm really sick of Konami's Adam saying they've rehauled the menus every year. He's so full of it. They need someone to replace him and the team making the menus. I'd rather the addictive PS2 WE8 menus. I loved pressing those buttons!! Bring those nostalgic button sound effects back!!

    Well, opinions are different but pes6 was the masterpiece of the series and since then it went constantly downwards. The jump to next Gen was more than terrible for pes and last year it felt like the first time it was scratching on that legacy of pes6. For me it felt nonetheless too repetitive in gameplay to say it was the best title of the series. Looking forward to play the 19 demo. It's time for a good football game again. Lost interest since ea and Konami couldn't pull a decent game in years.

      Corega _Tabs Totally agree mate, everyone has their favourites. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by Konami effort this year. Let me know what you think. PES 6 was great but a bit too easy, I remember finesse shots being OP from edge of box.

    You are not reviewing the full game, you are just reviewing the demo, where gameplay may not be final. You also haven't seen Master League and My Club, where again, gameplay might be different than in an exhibition match.
    Thus, to me the title is a bit click-baity and misleading. Why don't you just call it "demo review" and then do a full review once the game is out?

    • @SpoonyPizzas
      @SpoonyPizzas  6 лет назад +1

      Apologies mate - I've amended it. I thought I put demo into the title. Thanks for pointing that out and a full review will come after game releases.

      capo - Experience shows us that the demo is pretty close to the final product. They don't change it much. If this A.I. preference for attacking wide too frequently, isn't removed, then I won't be buying the game. And the toned down goalies is another turn off, too. I will wait for the reviews of the official release to see if these factors have been addressed. If not, then PES 2017 is still the king for me.

      Great stuff, really looking forward to it!
      @Graham Taylor: true...let's hope for the best that they will listen to community feedback and tweak the AI. One positive thing I have noticed however, is that the AI isn't scoring the same OP goals every time anymore.

    Very good review, pal.
    Personally, I prefer simulation, so for me, as it is, even with all the flaws - I can say that pes2019 is already better than 2018.
    I just hope they will fix and ballance few little things before release. And those few little things are:
    - visible fatigue HAS to be more visible. Injuries are a MUST for this to be a proper football simulation.
    - AI has to have more ideas and imagination when attacking. Attacks from flanks are sometimes so obvious that its ridiculous. Your previous video captured it perfectly
    - through balls occasionally pick different target for me than I picked. Holding direction one way - passing somewhere else. That was happrning to me in FIFA quite often but never used to happen in PES
    - crowds are...very average..
    - advantage after fouls sometimes are ridiculous. Referee gives advantage, team plays out whole action, they miss at the end, and referee gives them previous foul. WTF?! If they were able to perform the attack thats their chance gone. Refereez shouldnt go back that far!
    Apart of those little things, everything feels smashing! Shooting, dribbling, feeling of the ball, tempo, animations, defending, AI aggression - all stepped up.
    Looking forward to full game!
    Hope they wont change much of the coding before release!

    I find 2018 better. The new gameplay is sluggish i feel like i dont have control over the players very unresponsive, unlike 2018

    • @SpoonyPizzas

      SIETIZ I'm in agreement now, but this is by design. 2018 is fun and 2019 is serious but still enjoyable.

      Spoony Pizzas played it couple hours ago.. feels kinda like they force you to learn manual pass and shoot, level 1 passing assist is way more unaccurate than it was, shooting on advance is harder... or i just need to get use to new mechanics

    • @RyanX1899
      @RyanX1899 6 лет назад

      It felt like this when switching from PES 4 to PES 5 back in the day. PES 4 was pretty arcade like and PES 5 was so damn realistic, control the players and passing was harder. It scoring goals was more rewarding. It's something similar here though PES 2018was on the right track and looks like 2019 will have a steeper learning curve but I'm sure we are going to like it the more we play.

    • @SIETETIZ
      @SIETETIZ 6 лет назад

      t1000v20 its not about it being harder or having a deep learning curve. I would like it if it were that way but NO. Its about it being random and sluggish which takes away control of your player the opposite of what you are talking about

    • @RyanX1899
      @RyanX1899 6 лет назад

      SIETIZ I tried the demo I don't find it random and sluggish, you have to learn to get the ball under control there is more emphasis on physics in this game. You just have to learn how to play it.
