  • This is a video outlining my recovery from rotator cuff surgery. I plan to post a new video every week until my recovery is complete, so that others can see what it is like to go through this process. If you have any questions feel free to post and I will do my best to answer them all. Thank you.

    Had my repair 2 weeks ago today. First 3 days were pretty bad. Stopped oxy aftef 6 days. Had my 1st check up yesterday and things look good. Four more weeks in the sling. Had 4 anchors placed and hopefully they will hold.

    Just had my surgery yesterday. I didn’t get any nerve block. They gave me a horrendous sling which absolutely useless, so I bought the same you have. Next day Met the hospital physiotherapist who made me to do all the exercises. I can’t even describe the pain I was feeling.

    According to the orthopedic surgeon I was sent to, I have a FULL tear rotator cuff and require immediate surgery. I did NOT follow his advice but instead did my own at-home therapy. That was 6 months ago. I have had NO pain, full range of motion, back to exercising and playing tennis. I can do ALL 3 of these tests and PASS with ease. If I had followed the surgeon's diagnosis and treatment, there was an 80% change of a good outcome (his own words). BEWARE people! SOME of the medical professionals today are either completely dishonest or totally incompetent!

      Nice to hear that you healed on your own. Please can you tell me more about your own at-home therapy. Thank you. I fucked up my shoulder playing tennis. I have constant dull pain in the front of shoulder, range of motion is full but pain becomes stronger when I use the arm. Waiting for mri.

      If an MRI showed a full complete tear then it will never heal without surgery, having no pain is not a sign you are ok, a cancer patient for example could have no pain but be very ill,the problem here is you will lose function in that arm for sure at some stage. It will not heal and will come back to haunt you, thinking you know better then a consultant is delusional and the fact you believe yours was dishonest seems to confirm that. Good luck with everything.

    Had one done 7 years ago, needed a second a few months later as I developed frozen shoulder and then needed a third, a bicep tendonesis and that was followed by carpal tunnel surgery. It's a long recovery process, I could only sleep on the couch because I needed my shoulder to be propped so it couldn't move because the pain was excruciating. Following release from my first surgery I was given lyrica as the painkiller, I literally though I was a balloon and ha no legs for 24 hours so never took that again. 7 years on, the shoulder is still painful, at times severe, and I've lost some movement. And in 3 days time I'm having the other shoulder done after tearing that lol

      I am sorry for the slow reply. As for taking a shower, I tried not to get my sling wet and would only use a wet tea towel to hand wash that area. I don't know about walking a dog, that might be difficult for the first couple weeks. You might want to get a dog walking service for a couple weeks.

      @STEPHANIE MOORE
      I seriously suggest you get help for the first few days if not for the entire first week. I could not have done it if my husband hadn’t been a rock to lean on. He’s been my medication dispenser, my cook, my pillow proper, my bathroom helper, my hairdresser, and my ice pack retriever, and my chauffeur. I might as well of been a “newborn baby”, cause I really felt helpless. I couldn’t put on or take off clothes for at least 2 weeks by myself. I have never had to rely on another human for anything since I was a child, and this experience has been humbling. I’m on week 4 post op and I’m just now dressing myself, and starting PT which is really rough. All this would have been a lot easier if it was not my dominate arm/hand. And I think men have it easier too, since they’re perfectly fine going “shirtless”. Us women don’t get that luxury. And make sure you have several ice packs that you can rotate out! My PT guy used a fabulous ice pack on me called ElastoGel. I immediately went home and ordered one off Amazon for about $50. Worth every penny.

    Not looking forward to my surgery on Aug 24. I picked up my grandson and felt and heard “3 pops” 7 weeks ago. Since then I’ve had less than 3 hours of solid sleep at any one time. I have a feeling it will be several more weeks of pain until this is resolved.

      hi, im scheduled for repair on my dominate arm and would like to know how your surgery went, what to expect and if they give you something to help you relax before the nerve block ( i dont like needles) and since yours was three weeks ago i just felt you would be the perfect person to ask. hope you are healing good and feeling better. thank you

      @@helennunnelly7674 Yes not long after my IV was started I received some nice relaxing drugs and drifted off to sleep. I only remember a few bits and pieces until I woke up after surgery. The nerve block lasted a few days and I wasn’t terribly uncomfortable. TAKE the pain meds for a few days, then switch to regular Tylenol during the day, and stronger stuff at night. I have slept in my recliner several nights, but mostly in my own bed, propped with a pillow under my shoulder. My right hand did stay cold the first week, so I sometimes wore a sock/glove. As soon as I started moving more it was fine. My husband has been a saint, cause I wasn’t able to dress myself (at all). Pulling up your undies one handed is tough! I know if it had been my left shoulder, it would have been a thousand times easier, since I’m right handed. But I start PT Thursday!

      Oh honey, 13yo! I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this terrible surgery. It will get better but it’s going to take time. I hope you’re being given appropriate pain meds. I definitely needed narcotics every 4hours for the first week and then just regular Advil/Tylenol during the day with stronger stuff at night. Saying prayers for you! If you’d like for me to speak with your parents I definitely can and will give them and you some survival tips and tricks.

      Hi Wyatt how are you doing now.? I had full rotator cuff operation ,a while ago ,yes it was tough to manage after the operation especially trying to sleep.I do hope youare feeling you are over the worst now,and things seem to be getting a little easier. I know its very hard ,especially for someone so young ,but the best advice I can give is rest it as much as possible.Yes do the exercrises you were given ,they are really important ,for a good recovery.Remember you have had quite a big operation,and you need to rest as much as you need,it all helps towards your healing.Hope you are doing well and hopefully the pain is easing now.You are doing really well ,and you will look back in time and realise it was well worth having the operation. Good luck
