Umm... yes it did matter. That’s why the title is called “tree” because the old man kept on watering the stick, it wasn’t growing because the tree in the afterlife was the stick that the old man was watering. The more good you do on earth, the same thing you get in the afterlife.

To People here saying that it was pointless to water a stick.. It was also pointless to give the girl the water because she had no chance of surviving a fever in a desert. But humans live on hope.
And it wasn´t pointless. That stick didn´t grow in the desert. But - just like his daughter - it grew in the afterlife, where it marked the meeting point for his daughter to wait and for him to find her. Or at least that may have been his final thought, instead of: "This is too much sand.".

This might be me, but I had a feeling that yes- this short film could be perceived as how hard loved ones work to make you happy, and how selfless they can be, but I also had the impression of it being about failure as well. That no matter how hard you work at something, no matter how much soul and blood and sweat you pour into it, if the "soil" isn't furtile, nothing will grow. This can also be applied to the girl. The Father was trying his very best to keep her from dying, but she needs more than just water. Realistically, she needs medicine, food, and a safe place to live. The tree needs more than just water. It needs an environment that's capable of letting things grow. There's how you intend and hope things to be, and what they actually are. The Father's intentions was nothing but good, but his hard work didn't go anywhere. This isn't because he didn't work hard enough, rather that where he was is impossible to work in.

This may or may not be the idea behind the animation, but I have a thought. Perhaps the tree in the little girl's afterlife was only growing and blooming *because* the man kept the watering the "tree". It reminds me of the Pixar movie Coco, where as long as we remember someone, they're spirit literally lives on, but this adds a step to it by creating a bigger more beautiful afterlife for the departed by doing little things to remember them by.

I lost my grandfather almost 2 years ago now, and I’m still battling with the intense grief and loss that that entails. He was such an instrumental person in my childhood, and unlike my other grandparents, whose flaws become more and more apparent every passing year, he was just a genuinely good guy. As soon as she coughed, my heart broke. What a wonderful story that brought me to tears. So wholesome and reminds me to be thankful for who I have now.
I think what happened is that. Yeah the daughter is dead as well as the tree. Butt the promise he made for his daughter to keep watering the tree even though its dead. Butt in the after life while he keeps on watering the tree as he gets old he still waters the tree and it grows. Probably the spirit of his daughter saw the tree growing and she just sat there cuz she remembered that her father is still watering the tree. So she waited then when the sand storm arived and took the life or her father. The father also has entered the after life and saw the tree and his daughter grown up. Thats just my toughts :)

What a great film. Amazing how this animation provokes meaningful emotions with such simple characters and a simple story in a very short amount of time. I've watched countless live-action movies with much more time and budget to work with by comparison, but these bigger films can't manage to create characters or stories anyone actually cares about on the same level that this small animated short did. I also love that this was done using 2D. Still would have been great as 3D rendered, but the 2D art and animation gave it more charm in my opinion.
I showed this to my cousin and afterwards he straight up went "Just plant the stick under the tap thing-" Edit: stop liking my comment or my cousin will keep rubbing it in my face

SubhanAllah, this really is so heart touching! After I saw, I felt a deeper love for my father, and I thought about how hard our parents work for us. Parents are such a blessing that they would die for you if it meant your survival. Those of us who have parents, guys, I think it's time we show them how much they mean to us. One day, we (creations of God) are all meant to die, but those who do good in this life will in Sha Allah be rewarded. Authors and animators, what an amazing story and moral you've shown us all! Thank you so so much for this! I needed it! May Allah Almighty bless you all and guide us to the straight path, and make us all amongst those who show our utmost respect to our parents, Amen!

My own interpretation of this short film was that it tells us that it's better to try, to at least have something to hold on to. It's not pointless to hope for the stick to grow and become a tree, what's pointless is not trying. In real life, we tend to judge the outcome, even before we start to do it. We often jump into conclusions. We scare ourselves that's why we are afraid to try doing it. We tend to say to ourselves that "Nothing will happen, it's pointless". It seemed like he watered the stick in his world (nothing happened) and didn't grow but turned to a healthy tree in the place where his daughter is. Btw, anyone watching this during the pandemic ?
I know every time the Gobelins team uploads a piece, it's going to be stunning. The technical work and skill put into each work is nothing less than jaw dropping in every instance. But there's always the story to take into account. Sometimes, it's short and cute and fun, and then you get shorts like this. The ones that, while simple and wordless, speak volumes of not only the people behind the work, but the human condition. What we do as human beings and what our actions make of us, and how not every happy ending is happy in the way we hope. I cried watching this. I cried hard. But it was a good kind of crying. And I feel better for having done so. Because despite everything, he got to see her again, and they're happy together now. And that's what really matters.

It's a very sad short, because what tries to show is the future we ar allowing to happen. The point of it is that without water, the only thing left Is faith... (... that there will be a better life after death...)
I miss my dad so much. Everynight he would massage this liquid herb tonik, ordered by my favorite pediatrician, everytime I was in horrible pain. I was in early elementary. My Dad would try to stay up to see if I was fine. This is my interpretation. Out of nowhere, I have the same aches all over my body and feel a feverish. I'll just ride it out. My mom has her kualities, too. My dad R. I P. I still have my Mom. I'm sorry I it's inkoherent, my hands ache. 💖
Miss my father too, he passed away in cancer some 10-11 years ago, when i was 12-13. Miss him dearly, but life moves on no matter if you want it to or not. Stay strong and know that your father will always be with you and one day you'll meet him again, just how i'll meet mine again.
For anyone still watching in 2020, the theme is love keeps an individual together even in tough situations. This is because the old man worked those hard hours pumping water for his girl, and also continued life after his girl died, he kept it together and kept growing that tree. OR The theme is love creates an unbreakable bond even in tough situations. Basically for the same reasons.
In a bit of a macabre twist, perhaps the old man's body will be able to provide enough sustenance for the tree to grow. Or maybe it's just a stick. Either way, I love this animation.
THIS MADE ME SO SAD! He does all this for the stick (it didn’t even grow) and barely anything for himself! Take better care of yourself man. Also I felt a bit happy when he saw his daughter at the end
Jade Raine he knew it wouldn’t grow a tree...that’s why he tied cloth to the limbs to make leaves. His actions were more in remembrance of his daughter who initially water the “tree”.
Jade Raine he knew it wouldn’t grow... it was just a legacy for his daughter. If you can’t interpret basic things then don’t watch animation videos with deeper meanings.
That was cute and sad... I like that girl, the way how she comes to her dad for a hug is the most adorable. ❤ The characters and their house reminds me of "LISA: the painful" 😊 I love it.
Грустная история. В ней столько тоски. Отец до самой смерти ухаживал за этим деревом, которое выдержало песчанную бурю, и наконец-то обрел покой, став счастливым.
I know I'm late, but just wanted to say that this is the best animated short film I have ever seen, and I love it, so much power and depth in just six minutes... I love it, thanks for making it and looking forward to see more of this.❤💯
wow. this animation is so amazing. this triggers so many emotions!! i love the art style how cuddly and cute it is.. and the characters that are so easily loveable.... thank you goblin for creating such great animations!!!! (you made me cry so much...... !!)
What I got from this story is that when that sandstorm came, it destroyed everything but that stick was there to let the old man hold on, but in the end he dies and goes to heaven where his daughter was already living a life that she wanted to. The moral that i found is that maybe there are some efforts that seem useless but God knows its real value and He rewards us for them which this world is unable to see..
Yes you can do a lot good things in life. Often you got no rewards for your good work but our God sees what we do and our souls will earn it after our material life has already ended. I wish you a nice day and lots of Love :-)
heart touching...green tree with leaves was happiness and a hope for poor sick girl...when the tree's reality unfolded on girl she broke and finished....Again hope stimulated the dejected father due to his love for his daughter , to give his daughter that lush green tree in heaven and to make her smile in heaven , he carried on his exercise and efforts to nuture the dried stick with selfless feelings and at last he achieved for what he was struggling hard.
I love it..... I always love those stories in which there is love more then saying... Meanswhile a love when the person is not even with you a care of your every dream... And no one can love and care that sooooo hard otherthen parents...❤ In that animation the old man endup his life not for himself but for his daughter that even not alive but he still do the things that her daughter wants too and love too... and thats the pure loyality and love💕
The ending was my favourite, as the father passed on to his daughter with the tree in the afterlife, and that is the lesson of watering the tree and enduring life's troubles.

This man is a true father. Not only did he give most of his water to his daughter, he even got her a false tree just to give her hope in the end. Even after her death, he spends his last days giving water to a stick. And, he even tries to save this false tree. I don’t know how he’s been able to service that long, but that just shows his dedication to his daughters wish and dream. 10/10
You're right. The water came out frim the hill, in the exact point where was the stick at the end. That means water = life, no water = death. The point in this short is that without water, the only thing left Is faith... (... that there will be a better life after death...)

I feel that this will have two situations happen: One is that very bad to wait and protect a tree that never grow up because it died already, It's just a dried branch. А он будет распространять её дальше.

@@SomeOne-eo7rw well if you put it that way even some of the most character developmental movies and films would look dumb it’s about execution a character might develop a lot but if the execution isn’t right it’s not gonna be good i think what he meant was the execution was a lot better than many movies and i’d say it is because it does what a lot of movies dont, build up think about it in a movie lets say a action movie when someone immediately gets game ended during the start you wont feel anything because you didnt know anything about the character or had any attachments to itbut this movie does do that it slowly shows what happened which is why i think it’s a great film

As soon as she coughed, my heart broke. What a wonderful story that brought me to tears. So wholesome and reminds me to be thankful for who I have now.
it's as if the old man also watered my eyes. This whole story just left me in tears.
Do you know what a butt is?
Hehehe

your 'butt' is distracting me
What a great film.
I showed this to my cousin and afterwards he straight up went
"Just plant the stick under the tap thing-"

Cette animation est la plus émouvante de toute ma vie ce qui rends la fin heureuse c'est que quand le vielle homme mort il rencontre sa fille au paradis et ils sont Unis pour l'éternité... Bravo.

yes this is a life story
Iman Khan ~Ahhh, so touching... just wondering... how many 12 year old brides you have and the number of first cousins in your ancestral line?

Out side see i fell nothing but inside grew the hate and sadness im fell good becaues the father meet her but when he die that dream to make that tree grow is possie (note:my english still not good in this part) and the rage part i blame the human who did this and somehow my mind fill with thing that make me want to destroy this world and make the human gone even me it seft
🙏🙏🙏
My dad would always do the same to me. I lost him nearly 3 years ago.
God bless you.
I miss my dad too😢♥️🌷🌷🌷
Miss my father too, he passed away in cancer some 10-11 years ago, when i was 12-13.
OR
The theme is love creates an unbreakable bond even in tough situations. Basically for the same reasons.
Why these short animations are always so sad and depressing..
Theyre french
Fuc I dropped My Spaghetti lol your surname iiii
Just like our lives. Short, sad and depressing
In a bit of a macabre twist, perhaps the old man's body will be able to provide enough sustenance for the tree to grow. Or maybe it's just a stick. Either way, I love this animation.
JustTooEasy98 some trees have the ability to grow from their sticks
I like the way you think
he waters the stick every day and his daughter grown up too
How?
It's not often you get a soundtrack all on the bass clarinet love it. Also how the tree stopped growing because she did too really simple but powerful
Sarah Oakes I agree, but the tree never grew.... at least the guy was happy in the end.
THIS MADE ME SO SAD! He does all this for the stick (it didn’t even grow) and barely anything for himself! Take better care of yourself man. Also I felt a bit happy when he saw his daughter at the end
Somehow that give him a purpose.
"The stick" HAHAHAHA
I like how u just destroyed his + his daughter's dream and the title of this video 😂
You didn`t get it
Jade Raine he knew it wouldn’t grow a tree...that’s why he tied cloth to the limbs to make leaves. His actions were more in remembrance of his daughter who initially water the “tree”.
Jade Raine he knew it wouldn’t grow... it was just a legacy for his daughter. If you can’t interpret basic things then don’t watch animation videos with deeper meanings.
OK, I've watched this short countless times whenever it shows in my recommended videos list. I still end up crying.

Грустная история. В ней столько тоски. Отец до самой смерти ухаживал за этим деревом, которое выдержало песчанную бурю, и наконец-то обрел покой, став счастливым.
Didn't expect the ending, but made me understand why after all those years, he kept watering "the tree". Beautiful. 👍
This was beautiful and cathartic! I’m so glad he got to be with his child again!
At the end, the tree was the symbol of reunion between the father and his kid. Because the Love is beyond the space, life, and hardship

wow. this animation is so amazing. this triggers so many emotions!! i love the art style how cuddly and cute it is.. and the characters that are so easily loveable.... thank you goblin for creating such great animations!!!!

Yes, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a gracious God.
heart touching...green tree with leaves was happiness and a hope for poor sick girl...when the tree's reality unfolded on girl she broke and finished....Again hope stimulated the dejected father due to his love for his daughter , to give his daughter that lush green tree in heaven and to make her smile in heaven , he carried on his exercise and efforts to nuture the dried stick with selfless feelings and at last he achieved for what he was struggling hard.
He's in the heaven now with his daughter 😭💖💖💖
I love it.....
I always love those stories in which there is love more then saying...
Meanswhile a love when the person is not even with you a care of your every dream...
And no one can love and care that sooooo hard otherthen parents...❤
In that animation the old man endup his life not for himself but for his daughter that even not alive but he still do the things that her daughter wants too and love too... and thats the pure loyality and love💕
The ending was my favourite, as the father passed on to his daughter with the tree in the afterlife, and that is the lesson of watering the tree and enduring life's troubles.
It made me cry... This story has soul in it. Lovely
A father who wanna do his daughter wish full fill no matter what happened how much time it will take....this is true love

The hill where he got water from a pump from was the same shape as what he made near the stick when he was covered in sand during the sandstorm.
Vecthur both were the same shape as the house
^Yeah also probably because of the wind blowing in the same direction all the time :O
maybe some giant died trying to save that pump during a sandstorm
You're right. The water came out frim the hill, in the exact point where was the stick at the end. That means water = life, no water = death.
The point in this short is that without water, the only thing left Is faith... (... that there will be a better life after death...)

Trees Are Very Important In Our Life Broo
I feel that this will have two situations happen: One is that very bad to wait and protect a tree that never grow up because it died already, It's just a dried branch. Two is the courage and love of father and his daughter for the tree with a hope that one day it will grow up to shade for next generation, I think the second one is the meaning of this story, I really love the visuals and content of this film! Hope to see something like this more in the future! Thank u for this incredible film!🙏😍💖💖💖💖💖
