The location of the ice festival is so fascinating.
Typically, the event runs from late January to mid-February
The event also includes other fun events like ice skating, ice slides, fireworks, and food booths.
The event runs from 10 am until 8 pm daily, but the illumination starts from 4:30 pm.
It consists of outdoor ice sculptures and indoor cabins and ice tunnels.
With colourfully illuminated ice castles and a whole host of wintry activities, it’s a fantastic way to make the most of the season’s cold weather.
For making the ice sculptures, first base is made with the help of bamboos, then the lake’s water is used to create a huge range of stunning ice sculptures.
There’s a special tunnel made for the behind- the- scene, pictures of the step-by-step sculpture making, for the ice festival.
The statues glisten blue under the sunshine during the day.
    Music adds more fun
Lake Shikotsu (支笏湖, Shikotsu-ko) is a caldera lake in Chitose, Hokkaidō, Japan, and a part of the Shikotsu-Toya National Park.
A caldera lake is formed due to a volcanic crater by volcanic mountains.
Lake Shikotsuko is encircled by volcanic mountains, one of which is Mount Tarumae (樽前山, Tarumae-zan) Tarumae is a 1,041 metre
Like most of the caldera lakes, Lake Shikotsu is very deep and ice-free. The deepest spot on the lake is 363 meters (1,191 feet). This makes the lake the second deepest lake in Japan, while the deepest lake is Lake Tazawa (Tazawako) 423.4 meters.
