    I have been a dividend focused investor for a long time. This does not mean I don't own growth stocks, I do. A well rounded portfolio should be a mixture of both categories. One way to minimize the anxiety out of stock market investing, is to make sure you keep a large cash cushion. I invest in the market, but never put all my money in market.

      Dividends are dope. Personally, I sometimes use my dividends to buy other dividend and growth stocks for diversification instead of reinvesting in the same stock. To each their own methods though. The good thing is that you’re investing in the first place and that’s what’s important. Salute for the content!

      When I started investing last year, I avoided significant mistakes. I've focused on investing modest sums in stable businesses for the long term. If stocks perform well, I hold onto them; otherwise, I reinvest losses into profits. Recently, I made $9.5k from a $4k investment in NVIDIA.

      Even with the right strategies and appropriate assets, investment returns can differ among investors. Recognizing the vital role of experience in investment success is crucial. Personally, I understood this significance and sought guidance from a market analyst, significantly growing my account to nearly a million. Strategically withdrawing profits just before the market correction, I'm now seizing buying opportunities once again.

    I lost over $80k when everything started to tank. Not because I was in an exchange that went belly up. I was just stupid to hold and because that's what everyone said. I'm still responsible. It just taught me to be a better investor now that I understand more of what could go wrong. It took me over two years of being in the market, I'm really grateful I found one source to recover my money, at least $10k profits weekly. Thanks Charlotte Grace Miller

But around age 60 I started shifting my equities positions out of high growth and into high Dividend, or at least solid Dividend stocks like the Aristocrats. Now? A 4 percent draw is roughly equal to simply scooping off the dividends each year. And I am not selling a single share in the process. Pay yourself FIRST. Start saving aggressively EARLY. Retire in comfort and with peace of mind. Maybe even early.

    John: Nice job on this sheet. Do you make available a template for this sheet? Or do you have a video on the sheet construction? I built this on my laptop using Excel (even though Google Sheets is also fine for this). And I get most of the numbers that you have on this sheet for the first company you reviewed (5.03% yield) EXCEPT for the Div YLD and Yield on Cost %'s. They are slightly off from yours for Years 2 onward. To calculate Div Income, did you base it off the Principal amount + Div Income addition of 10,503 or the Year end balance (which has capital apprec). Using calculator and on paper, these numbers are slightly different from what I get. Also, you did not exercise the Dividend Tax or the additional Contribs. Any video on these topics? Just found your channel and will check out more vids. Thanks for any response.

    Because of dividends, I first began investing in stocks. It's important, in my opinion, to be able to live off of dividends without selling if you invest and make other income in addition to payouts. It suggests that you may pass that down to your kids and give them a leg up in life. Over the years, I've invested over $600k in dividend stocks; I continue to buy more today and will keep doing so until the price drops even further.

    Great video and dividend stock suggestions, John. I am just wondering how the Dividend Yield % changes (increase or decrease) over the years. Take SBR in year 30 as an example, how did the Div YLD get to 24.36% per year when the dividend amount has been added to the principle, not the 10.25%? Maybe I am missing something but it will be really good to have something with 24+% return per year.

    • @Johnsmoneyadventures
      @Johnsmoneyadventures  4 месяца назад

      The Dividend Yield can change if the stock price goes up or down. When the stock price drops, the Dividend Yield looks higher, but it doesn't mean you're earning more money overall. It's important to look at both the Dividend Yield and the total return, which includes how much the stock price changes.

    • @Johnsmoneyadventures
      @Johnsmoneyadventures  Месяц назад +1

      If the stock price suddenly goes up, that's true. For instance, if a stock pays a 10% dividend on a stock priced at $50, i.e., $5 per share, and suddenly the stock price shoots up to $100 before the next dividend date, the dividend amount in dollars will still be $5. The dividend rate now will be 5/100 = 5%. So, it looks like the dividend rate decreases, but in reality, the dividend amounts stay the same.
      And that dividend amount paid in dollars usually increases over time. A company paying $5 per share in 2024 usually increases it to $6-7 per share in 2024, and this continues to stay competitive.

    I've been researching and studying the stock market for two years now and in my experience, if one pays close attention to everyday high cost stocks with an extreme volume, they will fluctuate enough dialy to make good trade profits. If you wish to go even safer than that then just purchase dividend stocks during their payout times and you can go between 3 or 4 of then per month and collect up to 7k in just dividends with 50k investment. 7k monthly doubles your investment the first year and obviously compounds monthly, so the longer you keep it up then the more you will have to share or spend later.

    If you are using high dividend stocks for income (not reinvesting the dividends) this may not achieve the best results. You may want to compare the higher dividend stocks to ones with lower or no dividends. To get the same dollar dividend amount at the end of each year sell some shares. I chose to compare CTAS to O (both are SP500 Aristocrats) and CTAS to ABR for the last 10 years. The current backward dividend at the end of 2023 was 9.1 %, ABR was 5.3%, & CTAS was .08%. I used a $10,000 initial investment. For CTAS vs O both total dividends were $7,500+/- while O capital gain was $5,900 and CTAS was $79,500+/-. For CTAS vs ABR both total dividends were $15,600+/- while CTAS capital gain was $78,100 and ABR was $22,500+/-. Past results are no indications of future performance.

    • @JosephineKenney

      The tax burden is about as fair as male patterned baldness, but there are strategies to minimize the impact. If you maximize your contributions to retirement accounts like IRAs or 401(k)s reduces your taxable income. Additionally, exploring tax-deductible business expenses, if applicable, can further lower your tax bill.

If the dividends are used to supplement income, then these results would be less than presented. In addition, there may be other stock (with or without dividends) that are better for growth.

    I was raised that the stock market was a rich man’s game (yep, grandparents lost it all back in the day and preached that forever) but I’ve been around long enough to truly taste just how profitable it can be, with inflation at 9.2% surely these are desperate times, but in my opinion there’s no market condition a proper financial advisor can’t scale through, especially ones that’s been around since the crisis of ’08 and before.

      It's okay if they don't agree with this type of investing, many of us do agree. I have 20 positions in high growth stocks. I'm getting 15 dividend pay checks, however I'm up 125 % this year. About $650k this yr, good dividend paying portfolio, although I use an F.A so buy as much as you can and wait for the rebound. Only the brave gets rewarded in these times.

      The financial market is a reliable choice. Diversify your portfolio with I-bonds, stocks (ETFs, REITs, dividend-paying stocks), and bitcoin. Given your budget, I recommend hiring a fiduciary to ensure you receive professional insights for a fee.

      Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.

    If you need income dividend stocks may be the way to invest. If you want higher total returns this may not be necessary. To cover both bases, I reviewed all 67 SP500 Aristocrat stocks for total returns with the dividends reinvested for the last 15 years. Most stocks with the highest average total return had below average dividends. There were only 3 stocks that were above the group average and the they were around 3%+/-. I also look for constancy (number of down years) over time. You may want to look at these 3 stocks, AOS, CTAS & WST. I do not recommend these nor do I own them.

    dude, did you project a constant increase in Div Yield % over the next 30 years and you truly consider it to be realistic to end up with yields of 20-30% ? :|
    e.g. check Column D, row 41:
    - 13:35 -> 30.33% yield
    - 17:44 -> 24.36% yield

  • @user-zi6sb3ci2o
    @user-zi6sb3ci2o 5 месяцев назад

    Why is the dividend yield decreasing every year?

    • @Johnsmoneyadventures
      @Johnsmoneyadventures  5 месяцев назад +1

      It's because dividend yield and share price are inversely proportional. When a company pays a dividend, its stock price loses value by the amount of the dividend paid (%).
      And vice versa, if the annual stock price appreciation is higher than the dividend yield, even though the dividend amount in $ remains the same, the yield decreases.
      For example, if a share that pays a 7.8% dividend when it was $16.5 suddenly doubles in value from $16.55 to $33.10, the yield would be cut in half to 3.9%, while the dollar amount of dividends stays the same.

      What I would do, if I were in your shoes, is to find ETFs that have high yields and put like 10% of whatever you make into those. Buy them at their mid points (so you may have to wait). This way when the ETF bounces back, you get the growth buffer and it pays out the high yields. When I started investing, I always did that. First, I looked for the highest yielding stocks, ETFs, etc and then I bought at their mid points. Once you get that buffer in place and it starts paying out, now you have a weapon against expenses and possibly long term (if you so choose to keep it for the long term).
