Monster Crown Review - Is it actually good?

- I played Monster Crown before and during the holidays and had some thoughts I wanted to share. Definitely an interesting experience, but you'll have to watch to hear my full thoughts ;)

It's okay..
If it took the inspiration and actually added something new to the genre, I'd respect it.. but it never does at all. There's a lack of creativity and actual innovation that I find distasteful. There's a reason why these haven't broken through.
I got it for $10 using my GameStop reward points. Already had to restart from my last save, which was way at the beginning. So yeah that was a thing. Your right about the grinding a bad chore. I hope that they fix the bugs soon. They're not bad, they're noticeable and really bad. Like having to restart the game because the screen goes black out of no where.
Very well done with this video. I enjoyed your essay and the editing choices, audio, etc. all were impressive. Great job.
Honestly I like these random indy games its 20 dollars on Amazon I might just buy it for the collection I like having weird things in my switch collection

Like, the ideas are great but the bugs and even lack of features are infuriating!
Fo you know how many Rainbow Mons were stuck in places I couldn't reach, just for them to fade into the ether,!? Like 3, but it's still too much!
I have the Switch version and I might have to postpone my playthrough until some major quality of life changes come in.
Considering this is One guy developing this game, those changes might come anytime soon

A year and a hundred patches later, I'm trying it out, and if asked my opinion, I would echo this review almost word for word.
Waste can’t access mon box on ps4/5 yet asked to pay 19$ just add a laptop 💻 in main character bedroom for second access route great game yet sadly not loved enough to fix
The bugs ARE crap. The back and forth in the soundtrack between "nes like" and more modern-esq music felt cool to me because of how the art in the game was.
The dev is still fixing bugs to this day. Gonnna give it a try and hope for the best.
Buggy mess when it first came out but, has a different story for what you'd assume a game like this to have.
Played it on steam, and I can attest: it's STILL a buggy mess. Even Scarlet and Violet would laugh at this game's bugginess.

This is a game I want to like, but good lord almighty is this game sloppy. I've said that this is the SV of 8-Bit mon-tamers, but after playing for a bit, I'd even go as far as to say it's WORSE than Scarlet and Violet with the bugs.
Oh yeah, it's sad to say it but it is bad :/ I also really wanted to like it bc it really does have some stuff going for it, it's just, like you said, executed very sloppily. Maybe they'll make a second game in the future and it will be good, who knows!
@@Thiquid One really annoying glitch is that every time your monster learns a move and you go do something like try to fly somewhere or enter a shop, the move-learning screen pops up instead.
@@baalfgames5318that is annoying as hell, to top that off it's inconsistent to do if you breed often you got to do a lot of hassle to get the moves you want
$45 here in Australia for xbox for a 1gb game, mental, would deffs pick up for $10-$15 but approx 2-3 hours work for the average person here is a big ask for a glorified gameboy colour game, thanks for the vid!
Just picked it up at GameStop in the clearance bin for $4.99 then 5% off with the pro card. Let's see!
I came across a bug that won't let me progress in the game.
So now I have to start all over and I just don't feel like going through all that again.
With the chance of encountering it again..
Which is such a shame. This game had potential but the bugs kill it.
I've had this game on my wishlist for a while and finally got it through Humble Bundle. I want to like it so bad, it has good parts, but the bugs are really killing it for me. There are so many small quality of life improvements that could have been made as well. The lack of polish killed my excitement. I'm still playing but it's not as fun as it could have been. Honestly, it wouldn't have taken much to fix this game.
Just picked this up for $3 on xbox. Enjoying it so far & yeah the grind is real in this one lol
2024 and now we have Palworld as an alternative (well, tbf, Palworld is an alterrnative to more than just Pokemon)
Yeah, I'd say Palworld is more of an alternative to Ark than Pokémon. Some of the monsters have nice designs though for sure!!

Why you do mad about bugs. It's 2023, every game is nearly broken at launch.
The bugs are game breaking, the game is lacking in basically quality of life that Pokemon has had since the 1990's and even if it's like one guy making this leaving it buggy for almost 3 years to the point of soft lock is unacceptable even by triple A standard even by indie standards as well
It’s really sad because I grew up on Pokémon and I don’t think this genre can make a comeback. This game tries to but I just don’t have any desire to play this. Not trying to come off as negative but just saying I feel like being a 90s kid Pokémon was a one hit wonder
Dragon quest monsters. Has the proper breeding system and monster capture. Random battles. Best series hands down. Might enjoy it yourself
What do you mean exactly? The genre is in a pretty good place, new monster taming games constantly release like coromon lately, pokemon itself is a best seller whenever a new one comes around, the persona and shin megami tensei games are by now well received in the west especially persona could generate quite a large following and even spin offs like monster hunter stories 1 and 2 did great for spin offs of a larger franchise in a different genre. You can't make a comeback when you were never gone.
4/10? I think it's ONE GUY making this game soooo I think you're being WAY WAY too harsh giving it such a low score. I haven't even played it yet but it looks super cool. the reset bug thing sounds pretty scary though. Still 4??? for one guy NOT a full on company to build and make and market and think up like 2,000+ different monsters ect??? 4??? Common dude...
By that logic, every Pokémon game should get 0/10 because they're crap despite gamefreak having dozens of devs, decades of experience, and literally billions of dollars. Wait, maybe you have a point after all.
