The real struggle as a ‘90s kid was staying up late on a Saturday night to watch Apollo only to find out the special guests were wack. You had to be there😂
This was the best theme song opening for a show. I'm 37 years old, I grew up watching this show every Saturday night. Stayed up late just to watch it. The dancers are beautiful, and the song is awesome
As much as I fawn over Late Night programming...like to an obsession, I always forget how black people just do it better. This is all the pomp and circumstance of Big Time Sho Biz that I was missing. I happy to have remembered how good this was.
Your mom tells you to go to bed but she secretly hears this at night time so she lets you stay up for a while longer before saying. "Boy you better be asleep"
AS A KID GROWING UP IN THE 80'S & 90'S SATURDAY MORNINGS WERE FOR SOUL TRAIN, BUT SATURDAY NIGHTS WERE FOR SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO. FOR ME THIS BRINGS ME BACK TO MY YOUTH. WHAT TIME TO BE ALIVE.
Tonight, from the village of Harlem in New York City. The world-famous Apollo theater, where dreams are born and legends are made, is proud to present "It's Showtime at the Apollo!"
"Soul Train" 🚋 and "Showtime at the Apollo" was a Saturday ritual back in the 90's/early 00's for us millennial people under 40. I used to watch "Walker, Texas Ranger" 🥋🤠🔫🛻 at 10pm on CBS 👁 and then leave it on the channel to wait until 11:35 for this to come on locally right after the 11pm 🕚 news. My childhood memories, a much simpler time!!! ❤
I use to be scared of sand man when I was a little boy smh I even had a few nightmares about him 😂 but I use to love watching this on Saturday nights as a kid
Best intro to a show ever!!!!!! I loved those dancers, so glamorous!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!! Remember that lady who use to sit in the front and fall all over the artist who performed!!!!????? Awe, the memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a 97' baby and a Harlem girl myself, I used to stay up late to watch Showtime At The Apollo as a child. It used to come on right after Saturday Night Live on WNBC Channel 4 here in NYC. That show and Soul Train were the best to enjoy my Saturdays as a child!
I feel like I’m 4 years old & I’m watching this with my daddy😌😌❤️ my whole face lit up watching this!!! I remember those dancers with the feathers!!! “Tear the roof right off!” 👏🏾👏🏾
I was ok with them brongging it back this 2016, but I needed this intro to stay part of the show. Without this intro, I didn't feel set for an exciting show.
This was the Saturday night lineup for me and my family: it started with a show called touched by an angel, walker Texas ranger, early edition, showtime at the Apollo, and tales from the crypt
I used to watch this and Soul Train every Saturday nights. Oh, greater memories. Both of them are my favorites. What I really enjoyed about this show, is not only booing them bad amateur acts off that legendary stage, is that curly-haired lady by the name of Ms. Eva Isaac who be jumpin, screamin, gyrating her hips and rubbing on the R&B male balladeers such as Keith Washington, Keith Sweat, Full Force and many others. She was very fun to watch.
On Sept 12, 1987 It's Showtime at the Apollo broadcasted on CBS 42 WBMG in Birmingham Alabama As I'm just starting the second grade, I started watching this show every nights on Saturdays and still to this day, I remember the theme song and those lyrics I always came for the performances of artists and of course the laughable Amateur Night segment with the late Sandman Sims to get rid of the ones with bad talent everytime you heard that siren 🚨 then afterwards KiKi Shepard comes out and pick who's the best or worst Then by around I think 1994 or 95, they started adding the segment for kids and at the end of the day, they'll pick either one or two or even a tie This is why Showtime at the Apollo has always been my favorite.
I went to the Apollo Theater while on a school trip in 2011, and I got to rub the tree of hope, it was such a surreal experience to be in a place that many legends have performed at...
I remember this theme song as a kid, and Everytime I heard this song and saw the dancers my body would get chills all over....I never knew who the man was that sung the song when the dancers came out, but all I knew that every thing and everyone was all so coordinated so well and it made me feel alive....Good memories!!!!
This was where real talent was found, now you have people signed off Instagram and RUclips. They will never duplicate our black talent show. American idol and Xfactor and all them wannabes can have several seats. Pure garbage!! If you couldn’t survive the Apollo crowd, you weren’t worthy of a record deal PERIOD!
Saturday evenings or late Saturday nights early Sunday mornings if I couldn't sleep or fell asleep with the TV on, I'd watch this. And Steve Harvey is who introduced me to this program. Weekends in the mid 90s, I miss it
7 o'clock on Saturday nights was when my mom would pop popcorn and she, my dad, my sister, and I would jump in front of the tv and flip to our local ABC affiliate to watch Apollo. We'd laugh, talk, and just plain have a fun time watching the show! It was the one of the few times during the week where we'd watch something together. Even as an adult I still remember those times together. I miss those days!
This was the show you had to watch on a Friday night. The moment 9:00 rolled around you stopped whatever it was you were doing & called your friends & let them know that "Showtime At The Apollo" was on. Sometimes you'd have to race home from where ever it was you were at.
Loved this when I was younger. Have to admit, I never noticed the male dancers til the end and I always wondered, do they just come out and put their hands in the air? lol. I realize now it was probably because of the camera shots.
I remember watching it too every Saturday evening with my parents. This was part of my childhood growing up. So many memories with my loved ones. I wish shows like this still came on so I could make lasting memories with my little one.
Yes man war eagle. I watched this on WBMG 42 as well, I from Jasper this was my Sunday night thing before I went to bed and get ready for school. I still love this on better than the new one, but I still watch the new Apollo.
We never missed Soul Train. Had to laugh at the way ppl were dancing. & in Florida, we had a show called On The Set. It also came on, on Saturday night. It was centered around FAMU. A place on the campus where the college kids hung out. I remember when I went to Fam's campus, I thought I was so grown b/c I was on the set lol. #goodmemories
Well, it was hard to stay awake as a child watching this on Saturday nights because it was past my normal bedtime and we had to be up by 7am to get ready and out the door for Sunday school and church but it was worth it!
I miss the 90s, best time to be a child

Intro still gets me hype to this day! Currently all seasons are available on Tubi in their entirety 😁 36 yrs old
Just hearing this theme takes me back to childhood when staying awake past 11 P.M. or until midnight was a challenge haha
