Very nice review. What can I say as a massive Springsteen-fan myself: Definitely his best album. For me even one of the greatest albums ever released by any artist. This really made me a Bruce-fan. Before I got Nebrasca I only know the Born In The USA-Album and the Greatest Hits so this was really unexpected and got me a totally different impression of the artist Bruce Springsteen. Funny that these rather dark and sad songs remind me of a very special time in my life, actually the best time of my life which gives the album an extra bonus. One of the most beautiful songs on hre I think is Mansion on the hill. Bruce basicly wrote Born in the USA for this album and even recorded an acoustic version of it but he refused to put it on the record in the end. Same goes for I´m On Fire.
Two of two: I never even knew that the song 'Nebraska' was about a killing spree. Wow, Highway Patrolman has a serious story behind it too. I think I did hear someone talking about the song State Trooper once. But you just put it into perspective. Geez Tony, how did you find out all of this by just listening to the lyrics? You are talking me into buying this album. This was another awesome review Tony. Such a great idea doing one album reviews. I'm looking forward to the next random pick~ Rob
Hi Tony, I was just watching the first couple of innings of the World Series and I know you are probably watching it too. Actually Mike, Marty and Lj are most likely doing so as well. OK, I started to see Bruce live in 1977 at the Boston Music Hall. He had the horn section with him on this tour. If you grew up in the 70's you listened to Bruce. Plain and simple. I have to admit, I do not know this album at all. So hearing this review is going to be fresh and welcome. One of two: Rob/Boston
Was curious, do you see Springsteen as a songwriter in the same light as Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Phil Ochs, Tim Hardin, etc. I know those are big names, but the more I've gotten into Springsteen and his body of work the more I've associated him as amongst the all-time songwriting greats. Curious about your thoughts given your musical tastes, cheers!
I think Springsteen is not as poetic as Dylan (although no artists out there are), but his raw and relatable lyrics can be poetic in a different way, without the elaborate lyrics seen in Dylan songs such as Desolation Row.
Great review, its always been my favourite springsteen. Really good songwriting, which is the case for many of his albums but I appreciate the sparseness more than that big sound of the E-street band; although i was an original sound that set the band apart from other rock acts
yeah state troopers my favorite track off this record as well, straight suicide influence without a doubt. I showed my buddy who's a springsteen fan frankie teardrop one time and lets just say he wasn't digging it lol. But i'll have to show him that track to see if i can convince how awesome suicide was. I have a record by martin rev that i think is just self titled, check it out if you haven't heard it. I dont think its better than suicides debut like some people say but its pretty good.

My Barnes and Nobles has a few of his albums half off. I picked up Innocent and The River.
