I think the point of these devices isn't to make it impossible to steal but to make it inconvenient for the thieves that pull the quick cut and steal method. There were 2 Prius cars on my block where a camera caught thieves pull up next to the car hop out, jack the car up, cut them, and drive off as fast as a Nascar pit stop. Something like this would just make them drop the car and move onto the next one unless they figure out a way to get around it in a few seconds.

I've installed this system 5 times for customers and I personally don't think it's worth the money. Quality is questionable with the clamps. I've had the threads strip out while tightening it the bit they give you can break. Plus it's extremely easy to bypass by simply cutting between the cable.

Toyota just LOVE their multiple catalytic converters,,,,, they even built the first catalytic converters for the 4Runner into the exhaust manifolds!! Hard to steal, but expensive as h*ll to replace!! Did do on two of my nephews 4Runners. Toyota quoted both of them just over $7,000.00 Canadian (CAD)!!! Each vehicle!! We shopped around for the parts and Toyota branded converters were expensive!!! In the end we spent about $2700 CAD on each vehicle for all the parts. We bought a few more parts than needed, but when you are doing it yourself and it the exhaust, better too many new parts than not enough. The trucks were each out of commission for a weekend, but none of us are Toyota mechanics!!! 😂😂. Ultimately the using internet on the 75” tv in the ManCave made it much easier with a video on RUclips. We could follow one video along as the installation was explained somewhat. How did we get along without the internet before??? Haha.
It further soured me on Toyota as both trucks only have around 220,000 km (137,500 miles). It’s a more common repair than we thought when we asked around at the muffler shops for prices. Then again, the 4Runners are very popular here. Might explain why many are for sale in the 200,000 - 250,000 km range!!😮😮. I have never had to change a catalytic converter on any of my personal vehicles, but I generally don’t keep them that long, or it’s one of mu classic vehicles, most of which are pre catalytic converter days,,.
Vehicles of the more classic era, pre 1987 (ish) for me, were much simpler, but more polluting, and you could work on them very easily yourself!!

In addition, my greatest fear would be snagging one a thousand things laying in a roadway and it start tumbling or dragging under the car causing all kinds of damage.

As someone who has had theirs stolen, and wanted to prevent it happening again, be very careful about what aftermarket parts you install if your car still has a manufacturer warranty. The manufacturer of my vehicle told me that any aftermarket part that bolts on (including this and those shields) would void the warranty.
My advice would be to get good insurance that covers accidental theft/loss, and also covers a rental car up to $40 a day. Essentially it wouldve cost over $5500 for me (including the rental) but I only had to pay my $500 deductible, which the business where it happened decided to compensate me for thankfully.

Why not just cut outside the flanges?

Like "The Club" supposed to lock the steering wheel from turning and was hardened steel to avoid cutting. So thieves just cut the steering wheel and popped off The Club.

For a car channel is think you know what the catalytic converter looked like. Also look it up on RUclips first so you appear to know. 🤷

Maybe it might be a deterrent... But it's simple to defeat. May take a few extra minutes but easy to do. Your probably just wasting money that you should just have saved for a new catalytic converter if your unlucky enough to be a victim.
