Ah yes, Shalimar, mysterious and haunting, ghosts of past loves, a romantic, voluptuous fragrance for present love, a divine scent that brings to mind wonderful emotional sensations. It is rapture in a bottle. If you could hear and feel the scent of Shalimar, I would compare it to Beethovens Moonlight Sonata, Rachmaninovs Piano Concerto #2, and Liszts Liebestraum #3. Go have a listen and see what you think. Shalimar is without a doubt one of the worlds most heavenly aromas.
I hope you don't think me weird but I keep going back and watch this review for a couple time before I FINALLY bought my first bottle of Guerlain: Shalimar. It definitely has a character doesn't it? Not a crowd pleaser. It stung my nose at first try and kind of repulsed me but as I keep smelling it, it grew on me and when finally the vanilla shows itself, I was taken aback. Its soo beautiful! Like a comfortable cashmere sweater. Then again, the perfume smells really cozy and cuddly... Don't you think?
That's exactly how I described it, fluffy and cozy. Try le heure blue by Guerlain, it's really addictive, it was the Queens favourite go to fragrance. there's just something about it. came out in 1912, try it!😊
Just found the edt at TJMaxx! It's beautiful and reminds me of my mom! It took me years to appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship of this scent. It's a classic and isn't going anywhere.
Meaning of Shalimar: It is named after the favourite garden of Mahal, wife to Shahjahan. After her death he built the Taj Mahal in her honour. Shalimar EDP is a tribute to their love.
Love Shalimar, but not as much as I love Samsara. But Guerlain is one of my favourites perfume houses no matter if the scent was created for men or women. When is comes to classic perfume create around the same time as Shalimar ( mid 1920s) would be Arpege by Lanvin and it smells heavenly . Arpege is one of the reason I fell in love with perfume at a very young age. If you get a chance to buy it you must do a review. My Sin by Lanvin is also very much worth a try
Excellent review. Shalimar was my late grandmother's favorite perfume, and she gave me small samples of the perfume and the body veil back when I was in high school, and I still have them. Whenever I would visit her, she would spritz some Shalimar on me and she taught me about the differences between the perfume, EDP, EDT, and she had the eau de cologne. It will always remind me of her, and it's a gorgeous scent. It's one of my top favorites.
If i had to choose just one out of my stupidly huge collection, it would be Shalimar. The most perfect perfume. Comforting and yet incredibly sexy. Amazing juice! Edp for me too. ❤️
Well the note in this "Civet" comes from the Civet Cat! It is a smell that is very Animal like. It's deep, kinda weird and dirty smelling. Kind of feral and almost like..urine,. (sounds gross I know) It actually smells horrible in the wrong quantities. I have smelled it before in other things where it's way too much. But in this? It's perfect. It's used more in classic fragrances and is becoming less and less popular. Now mainly synthetic civet is used to stop the cruelty to animals. :)
@@Puddycat00 But ya know, It's synthetic now? Not real. Real Civet is not used in perfume anymore (apart from very few small brands). Perfumers use "Civetone" :)
First things very much first, this is an excellent review, which is what I've come to expect from your channel. You're doing good work. As to Shalimar, I wear it regularly. It's one of a handful in my collection that I have a backup bottle of. I'm a fellow who wears a lot of hyper masculine scents. I like bold. So Bois de Portugal, Je Suis un Femme, Le Mat, Eau Sauvage, Declaration, and others of that ilk get regular wears from me. Shalimar is as bold, but in a different way. In a purer way. I've never had anyone suggest I smelled grandma-ish while wearing this, to the contrary both women and men have given honest, general compliments. I also wear it to bed, or sometimes as soon as I wake up. It's amongst the most beautiful scents created ever, and I love being in it's presence. My wife loves the scent, yet doesn't wear it herself. I'd bought it for her a couple years ago, loved it on her, but it never got worn. I tried it one day, and never looked back. I'm on my 3rd bottle
Thanks for your very interesting review. I just read that Marlene Dietrich used Shalimar in the late 40's . That was enough for me to get interested and after watching your video I think, I have to experience it myself.
Thank you for the review! Shalimar was my first love in the 80's along with Poison, Loulou and Coco. I've lost count of how many Shalimar bottles I've used during these decades. Many new perfumes are very blah. It's funny that this old one is so unique after a century...
I'm kinda surprised to find that a few guys actually LoVe SHALIMAR. It's a very nice fragrance on both men and women. I love its oriental tone of scent, and the whole smell really soothes me and makes me feel good. Besides, it has been marketed since 1925. Soon I'm running out of my first bottle, and I'm definitely gonna get a new one right after that. Oh, there are also new fragrances out in August and September, called "Shalimar Souffle de Parfum" and "L'HOMME IDEAL" or "IDEALMAN". They will be included in my personal collection as well.
Terry Chiu Hi Terry, I recently smelled the Ideal Man one. It was OK. Not something I would rush out to buy but...not really as good as Gurlain should be in my opinion. The souffle one sounds amazing!! :)
ouch110 Fragrance Reviews I see. Well, I think Idealman is still in my consideration, since it's from Guerlain, and they mainly provide beauty products for women. As for men's perfume, what do you think of "Gentlemen Only" by Givenchy and "L'homme Libre" by YSL?
Tom, for years I’ve not liked Shalimar. I tried it every time I was in a department store. I wondered what all the fuss was about. I realized I had only smelled it on blotters. I recently purchased it for myself and I’ve been wearing it this week amidst heavy snow fall and freezing temperatures. I Have Become Obsessed With It!!! I walk around the house respraying all day. It is magical. Now I’m hunting down vintages on eBay. 😂 I’m so happy I’ve come around and seen the light!!!
Lol..I am at the 5:30 mark in this video...and you are still cradling the box..and here I am dying to see the bottle. Shows how much you are in love with Shalimar...and how much you love fragrances in general (well..you do vlog on them!!) I love you channel. I wish there were more people who enjoyed watching perfume reviews as much as I do (Katie Puckrik & you being my favourites). I have bought 3 perfumes as a blind buy...simply by listening your opinions on them... (Samsara, L'Agent and Fancy "sexed up lemons" Nights) and am loving them...Thanks for you awesome reviews... love!!
Aw thanks so much for your nice comments. It means alot! You've bought 3 based on my reviews? That's so cool. I'm glad you're enjoying them that's awesome. Well, I still have SO many more reviews to do so...gotta keep going. :) Thanks for subscribing.
Purchased a quarter ounce Parfume for my Mother years ago... After her passing, I find myself thinking of her every time I pass a perfume counter. Might buy ME a bottle, wear it keeping her memory alive in my heart. Good to know I won't be the _Only Male wearing Shalimar. {shh} .
It took me literally YEARS to appreciate this fragrance. I hated it at first, I didn't get it at all, and I felt she was too mature for me. However, fast forward 10 years, and I would happily bathe in the stuff ^_^ Tom, would you ever do a comparison between the latest EDP and EDT?
I own both...The EdP and the EdT and I can tell you that the EdP is more delicate since you won't feel the alcohol as strong and when the vanilla comes at the end, it is dreamy... I spray the EdT on my fan blades when I want my room to smell like Shalimar for a couple of hours.
I love shalimar :-) for me I do get a hugging your mum as a child wearing a cashmere sweater (perhaps where people confuse with a mature scent) and the powderyness reminds me of expensive make up. It's a very cosy scent for me. Great video!
I received my Shalimar edt and I’m in adoration 💞 Drys down soft and powdery vanilla. I wear this with the body shops vanilla (light floral vanilla) sprayed in a non scented lotion since they don’t make the body butter anymore or VS vanilla lace.
I'm a shalimar wearer since I discovered it from my late grandmother when I was young. Just a tip: shalimar parfum/edp for fall and winter. Eau de cologne for spring and parfum initial l'eau si sensuelle for summer. I'm only 32 and shalimar is nostalgic and timeless.
It is so nostalgic. Its the fist perfume that I was ever really entranced by and I love having it in my collection. Wonderful! Parfum Initial is amazing also. :)
Animalic lemon tone; bedtime and grown up baby powder .. So on point there! I really find your reviews interesting. Shalimar sort of wakes up the beast within. Its almost scary what it does, like no other.
Your Review, among other glowing reviews, led to my seeking it out and dousing myself in it at my local perfume retailer. It's amazing! At the start I thought... Hmm I don't know... Then it went through so many beautiful changes. Hours later it's still with me... So soft and comforting.
Very nice classic perfume that smells so much better on then skin than smelt from the bottle. Still, they reformulated it. It was so much better many years ago
Seems like that necklace part you spoke of at the top of the box, may be a jewelry piece worn on the head of women in India? - the charm falls down on the top of the forehead in the middle - and I believe it's a status symbol and if you look at pictures of Indian weddingsyou can see it so interesting! Love your reviews
+Da Pra Hello sweetheart. You haven't got to thank me you know haha, but I appreciate it very much. :) I do this to share my passion and hopefully inform people about smelly things. As always, your comments are appreciated. HAPPY SNIFFING!
I'm 42 and I've worn Samsara since I was 16 and it used to be so gorgeous!! It lacks the sandalwood/spiciness now :( My mom's signature scent was Shalimar and now I'm not sure if I should wear it haha!!
I’m fairly new to perfume working at Sephora. I work as a MUA, but was completely washed by a passion for perfume in the last months. So Shalimar has been one of those I hear a lot about, but never tried on my skin. I’m all about fougères, fresh, aquatic, gourmand-like fragrances. Do you think this would be a good choice to add to my collection?
I see this perfume as a staple in anyone who collects perfume's collection. A true masterpiece from 1928. So beautiful and comforting. There's a reason it's still around today.
Great review! This is a very complex fragrance...but you did explain it very nicely! I didn't like this version...but adore my Ode a la vanille (Madagascara).as it has less citrus in the opening. You are doing a great job! keep up the Great Work!!
Thanks a lot for this review. I want to buy my first fragrance and I want it to be special, different, something I could use as my signature scent. I am 26 years old, and I don't really see me wearing those super sweet and popular gourmand scents, despite being nice and all, I don't think any of them has something truly special or has anything to do with me lol Shalimar seems to be a good one to try and see what I think.
You're welcome! And whoa, if you start your fragrance journey with Shalmiar? You've got off on the right foot! Sorry if that's a weird British saying haha. Shalimar is LEGENDARY! It has a vintage fluffy feel and was the benchmark for so many fragrances that followed so, you are choosing a good one to start with. If you like it? and need other amber recommendations just let me know. :)
@@ouch110 Not weird at all! I can see why there is so much enthusiasm surrounding it!I still have to go to my local Guerlain counter and see if I can test the fragrance though. I live in Portugal and, sometimes, brands won't sell some stuff here for some reason. As a last resort, I'd order from an online retailer. I see you link fragrances from Notino website, can I trust it? There is a localized version for Portugal, and I found Shalimar there. Sadly, I am also interested in Samsara, because you say so many good things about it, but if I don't find them in store, I won't be able to decide lol!
@@ouch110 just an update: I got to smell both Shalimar and Samsara (eau de parfum concentration). I am completely blown away. I love Shalimar. Samsara, on the other hand, started like a very aromatic soap (which is not necessarily bad) on my skin - after an hour, it changed almost dramatically, My mind still gets a little of the soap thing, but it's become something else and I don't have the expertise to describe it. I am falling in love with it as well.
Jennifer Boardman Hi Jennifer! :) Thank you I'm glad you like them! Obsession...personally it's not a favorite of mine. I've been around it too much I think. A flatmate of mine used to wear it all the time and I think it just put me off. I can appreciate the spiciness of it though and it does "fit" right into the 90's!! :)
Hello!!!! They are similar but they are not the same. They are both resins but Opoponax is sweeter than Myrrh. Both are very dark thick smells as they are gums that come from plants. But Opoponax is meant to be inferior or..not as good quality.
When the drydown started, a strange sweet almost plasticy note started developing which was the benzoin..the notes started to clash and made me slightly giddy. Something in here isn't meshing with the rest of what would have been a winner! I'm always looking to add to my Tuberose collection. Continued below...
Enjoy these reviews so much, thank you!Keep your bottle and cherish it,i got my bottle today in the "new" packaging, and the parfum smells truly awful,it is very similar to the face cream called Noxcema ,so i am guessing they reformulated it,so those of you lucky enough to have the bottle before this current rendition2016/2017,use sparingly!:-)
I'm not sure if it's been tweaked. I hope not. There is "vintage" Shalimar which makes me think that it may have been changed. But..I really don't know.
great review! maybe it's strange but I can smell a little carpentry. special ancient smell...if you know what I mean. what do you think about the Shalimar initial (with the blue bow)? the shalimars have the most beautiful bottles ever!!!! thank you!
Intrigued by its popularity, i bought shalimar as a gift for my mother. This perfume is definitely suited more for mature woman, woman at age 30 or older, and definitely not something you want to wear during hot daytime. In south east asia, the smell reminds me of arometherapy incense + babypowder, a really smooth one. i wish i could explain abt it better, but that's what i can relate the most (aka im not good at explaining smells). Me and my mom didnt really like its first impression, but it's becoming so much better over time. Its cousin, samsara is much easier to wear, but shalimar is more elegant
long time ago , my piano teacher brought Shalimar from Paris / her siblings all were settled there / for my mother. I was 18 that time, but i swear, I loved it. )) It's finished after some years, but then I forgot about it. Last year I desperately wanted to remember the scent , ))) I bought two bottles, Initail EDP and This one in your video. What to say , I am in love with Guarlain creations and happy that I have Shalimar. Love it . JUST so much nostalgic )) and I wonder, how could I forget about it for so many years ))) I am planning to get also Samsara . It's very feminine , mature scent also. cheers! Thanks for the video !
You're welcome. Shalimar is so so important to me as it holds a lot of memories and it's one that is responsible for me loving fragrance period. It's the most beautiful classic amber with a fluffy vanilla and animalic edge, a true masterpiece of perfumery.
I love how you incorporate life experiences and your expressiveness and knowledge...Your going to excel in Perfumery no doubt whatsoever!! Your awesome my friend!! ♥.♥.♥. Ooh yeah I want to add this to my collection just because its legendary and you reviewed it oooh so wonderfully, as always! ;)
Could you please review L' air du temps by Nina Ricci and Arpege by Lanvin I have both these frags and they are the 2 best classic frags ever made still being sold today. I have a friend who wants a review by another person before purchasing L'air and Arpege. Please please review both perfumes! Thanks
This was my first ever love and purchase at 16. My best friend said it was her grandmothers favourite. I love the history that surrounds the fragrance. Old lady perfume - no way. Gorgeous stuff. The eau de Shalimar version is also lovely. A touch more lemon with the same heart. ❤️😘🌈
Deffo! It's only "old lady" to much younger people that aren't used to amber, and only fruit and syrup. It scares me that scents like this will eventually dissappear because of buying trends. Millenials barely have an interest in fragrance at all!!
Hi Emilio! Thanks so muhc for subscribing. Unfortunatley I don't own either of those fragrances. To be honest I didn't reall care for Madge's fragrance. Here is my written review of "Truth Or Dare". When I first sprayed I thought..YESS!! Another Tuberose perfume. Being that tuberose is my favourite note in a perfume I had high hopes. It smelled similar to my beloved Michael Kors "Michael". Neroli is another favourite note of mine so all was going well.. This did not last long. Continued
Eliora Rod :) Masterpeice! Did you know it was made by accident? Guerlain had a bottle of "Jicky" at his work station and just for fun dumped an entire load of vanilla into it...the result was Shalimar! :)
Do you notice a big difference between the eau de parfum and the eau de toilette versions? I love your reviews by the way. Someone at work was wearing Shalimar and I asked her what it was not knowing there were different formulations. Thank you, Bekah
I went into a room at work and the smell was so amazing from the previous person in that room - it seemed familiar and perhaps a classic scent - I tried to to find her to ask what she was wearing - wonder if it was a classic like Shalimar - I'm just frantic to know what it was
Hi loving your vids do you think a man could wear shalimar I love strong perfumes, or should I go for samsara? I love cinnabar, youthdew, eden, clinique aromatics, angel ect. Would appreciate your help many thanks Gary
Cheryl CheungBig sigh! I cannot get Shalimar EDP in my country.. I want to use the original Shalimar in place of my Samsara on weekdays... I love both, but, to be very honest, Shalimar EDP is more versatile than Samsara coz Samsara can be to overpowering when used during the day .. Tq so much for this fantastic review dear ouch110
I just got the pure parfum this week. I already knew, deep in my gut, that this perfume would have that Guerlain smell that all of their older perfumes have, and I was right. Since I already knew, I can't be too disappointed. I now have Lheure Bleue, Insolence and now Shalimar. They all have that same smell underneath...Is it Civet or something else? Not sure, but it is off putting to me. I wanted to buy Mitsouko and Jicky, but I feel like I already know how they will smell. Why do all of these perfumes smell the same? Insolence is actually intolerable because the Civet along with the loud violet top notes are just a mess. I wanted to love all of these, but my nose won't let me. So,, I will wear Lheure Bleue and Shalimar at home because they are interesting and iconic, but not out there where the masses live.
Funny, my Mom wore this for years, I think I thought it was nice at the time, now I don't care for it. My Mom and I have always had a challenging relationship. Maybe as a kid when I hoped to get her approval I liked it, now that I have realized I will never get it ,the scent reminds me of hope deferred. Not a problem I am over it. Choosing my own perfume. Maybe I'll stop in the shop and give it a sniff again, time heals wounds and changes our perception.
I'm not too sure to be honest. I know the bottle deffo have. I think this one is relatively untouched. That could all change though when the new laws are passed next year. :(
Hi. Fairly new subscriber here and fellow fraghead. I love Shalimar - and love how much you love Samsara - though I haven't been able to afford one of those red bottles yet which cost ever so much now - but someday, someday! I don't know if you read comments on posts from nine years ago but all of you please ignore that comment under Kat's delightful comment below. The Taj Mahal was in no way ever originally a Hindu Temple. That's utter nonsense. Just like the narrow, conservative, provincial politics of today lend themselves, in the West, to holocaust deniers, climate change deniers, Slavery and Native American genocide deniers (in the United States) - etc etc - in India now and especially under Modi - it lends itself to Muslim haters and deniers of the contributions to humankind of the ancient Mogul Empire in South Asia/India/Pakistan. Besides - comments here are supposed to be for appreciations of your videos - by fellow lovers of perfumes. This is not a forum for heinous, fake news, bogus politics! BTW - and moving on to happier things - since you do mention the origins of the name "Shalimar" in your video above - Kat - below - pretty much got the essence of the Shalimar story right - minus a few small details. "Shalimar" the word (or name) means numbers of things - "a master of buildings" in the original Arabic - "the abode of moonlight", I imagine in Urdu, given the name of "the Shalimar Gardens" in Lahore, Pakistan - and it means "the abode of love" in Sanskrit. Subsequently, Shalimar the perfume was named by Guerlain after a great human love story. The Shalimar Gardens (in Lahore, Pakistan as I said) were the favored gardens of Queen Mumtaj, the beloved first wife of the multiple wives of the great Mogul King, Shah Jahan, whose empire stretched over the whole of the north of what is now the Indian Subcontinent or South Asia. When Mumtaj died, Shah Jahan mourned her so deeply that he had one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal, (in Agra, India) - commissioned and built - as her tombstone - to memorialize her forever and ever! So Shalimar is an iconic perfume named after an ancient and iconic love affair. Somehow, at least for me, the love story behind the scent lends itself greatly to the total experience and enjoyment of it! Thanks so much! Congrats for now a decade of success here on RUclips!
no worries about civet, it has been banned, there a man made substitute now. and shalimar edp? PURE heaven. It has a VERY special place when to wear it. not everyday but in wonderful gatherings.
Oh, thank you so much for doing this review! It`s touching) I appreciate your opinion on all the perfumes! This one is particularly amazing! The powderiness of this divine fragrance is so magical and mysterious, dark and warming at the same time You`re so dedicated and enthusiastic about perfume which makes you different to most of other perfume reviewers ( don`t really fancy the word `guru`) Keep up with it!
Smells like furniture polish at first , kinda off-putting but then suddenly about 10 mins in it becomes BEAUTIFUL ! I love to spray a bit then watch the mini film , the shalimar mini film is amazing , you get lost in the magical world of the Taj Mahal palace :)
Lisa do you ? wow, well my bottle is a few years old so is before 2014 /15 when new rules ment perfumes were reformulated, many since that date dont last on skin much any more. The pure parfum in vintage or new should last ages and you should get the creme brulee and powdery notes, its lovely , but i have to wait ages for burnt rubber top notes to go first :)
@@Puddycat00 hi Lisa , really ? Is your bottle new ? Older bottles before 2014 are much better , longer lasting etc all perfume houses had to reformulate in 2014 and now Chanel and Dior and guerlain are just a few of those affected. There is a limiit on oakmoss etc that is a good fixative but now hardly any can be used, so have a check on evil bay ( eBay lol) see if you can find an older batch code bottle .
+ouch110 Fragrance Reviews , then you have two truly masterpieces. Every time I use L'Heure Bleue, everybody ask me what I'm wearing. I guess is a too dimensional fragrance compared with the so mainstream perfumes everybody is wearing today... People are no longer used to such delicacies. But I only use perfume extract, the EdP and EdT are not so deep and rounded as the extracts are. Which is quite extreme with these two ones.
Great review. Don't mean to sound ignorant but isn't that a woman's fragrance? How does it work with males? If this works then I will me changing my selections. Please give me some other suggestions that are unique in scent and long lasting that can cross over to the male side.
Hi there, yes it is a fragrance that's marketed towards women. I do hear of a lot of guys that wear it though. It's really just about personal preference. I wear all sorts of stuff and tend not to look at who it's marketed towards. You find with niche brands also, that they do not even have pour femme or pour homme on the packaging. A smell is a smell at the end of the day. If it smells good? I'm wearing it! haha. :)
Alien edp is by far the best women fragrance. It smells heavenly. Many of today's men's fragrances smell very female. Sweet, powdery and so on. There are many women wear the men's fragrances. Why should we not allowed to wear women's fragrances? Another great review from you..
I tried Shalimar at a store and frankly didn't like it at all. Now I'm afraid I'll have to try it again! I really love Mitsouko. Vol de Nuit is very beautiful too but alas not long lasting.
Thanks very much for the answer & so glad that shalimar is different than CN5, I would gladly buy this shalimar soon. I was asking the question 'couse personally I don't like CH5 at all.
I got my Shalimar Parfum today, my first impression was kind of weird. once I sprayed on my hand it smelled very beautiful & citrusy, then once it dried down I didn't like, it smells like on old leather. I hope by the time I will like the scent, ..
beavisbonce Why be so evil? haha. It's a really difficult choice. I'm inclined to say CQ but it might just be because it's a new love. As I said before I DO think it's a more modern version of shalimar and I'm all for modernt twists. I also much prefer the packaging so...I'm gonna say CITIZEN QUEEN has over taken it. I'm in love.
Shalimar are beautiful. They smell like a lover that you miss, so when you put them on you coat yourself with a hug of that person...
Your passion is infectious....
Hehe thanks!

+Mpompadour Such a beauty! :) And such a beautiful way to describe it. :)
Yes!!! You "get it", it's so cozy. The opneing is weird with the lemony civet etc going on but once it gets into it's stride? Stunning.
You must wrote my thoughts ! Lol :)
That's exactly how I described it, fluffy and cozy. Try le heure blue by Guerlain, it's really addictive, it was the Queens favourite go to fragrance. there's just something about it. came out in 1912, try it!😊
Shalimar is my grandmother's signature scent. It will forever be a luxuriously comforting scent to me, and most likely began my obsession with scent.
Just found the edt at TJMaxx! It's beautiful and reminds me of my mom! It took me years to appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship of this scent. It's a classic and isn't going anywhere.
The EDP is better in my opinion. The EDT is kit as rich. I love both though. Give the EDP a try
Amazing review! I love how you gush over Shalimar! It deserves all of your delight and praise. And it just happens to be my all time favourite perfume
Meaning of Shalimar: It is named after the favourite garden of Mahal, wife to Shahjahan. After her death he built the Taj Mahal in her honour. Shalimar EDP is a tribute to their love.
Lovely!
That gave me goosebumps ✨✨
Praveen Mohan...the real origin of the Taj Mahal. Not built the Shajahan. It's actually much older, and was a Hindu temple.
I love how you describe these classic scents. I will have to smell Shalimar again.
I really think it should be a staple in anyone's perfume collection that likes Amber and vintage. It's legendary. :)
Love Shalimar, but not as much as I love Samsara. But Guerlain is one of my favourites perfume houses no matter if the scent was created for men or women. Arpege is one of the reason I fell in love with perfume at a very young age. If you get a chance to buy it you must do a review. My Sin by Lanvin is also very much worth a try
Samsara is for black women.
If you know what I mean

ouch110 Fragrance Reviews it’s disgusting is what it is. Anyone who adds civet in a perfume is just insane And ppl stupidly buy into it.

Shalimar was also a signature scent for Frida Kahlo.
I agree, this stuff smells amazing
ouch110 Fragrance Reviews
I see.
Well, I think Idealman is still in my consideration, since it's from Guerlain, and they mainly provide beauty products for women.
As for men's perfume, what do you think of "Gentlemen Only" by Givenchy and "L'homme Libre" by YSL?
Yes! Guerlain = loveliness most of the time. :) I haven't smelled either of the fragrances you mention. I'll have to look them up!
As a 60 y/o _Male, I must confess to wearing Shalimar... it makes me feel "Pretty"..
Hehe Well that's great BBQNBLUES! :)
I love Shalimar! Im watching lots of your videos today and loving your channel
Yay, welcome to the shalimar world. The new flanker "philtre" is probably even more beautiful ya know!
@@ouch110 I bought Philtre for my birthday and it arrived this week. I can’t stop wearing it. It is absolutely addictive ❤️😍!
Lol..I am at the 5:30 mark in this video...and you are still cradling the box..and
here I am dying to see the bottle.
Shows how much you are in love with Shalimar...and how much you love fragrances in general (well..you do vlog on them!!)
I love you channel.
Lovely! The perfume is gorgeous. Thank you for reviewing this!
{shh} .
That's a great idea. :) She can live on as a beautiful scent memory. :)
Whoa! The pure perfume one? How cool is that? GET IT!
It took me literally YEARS to appreciate this fragrance. I hated it at first, I didn't get it at all, and I felt she was too mature for me. However, fast forward 10 years, and I would happily bathe in the stuff ^_^
Tom, would you ever do a comparison between the latest EDP and EDT?
Hiya! :D I never see the EDT in high street stores, but I'm sure it's still available? It's more citrus, less animalic if that makes sense).
I own both...The EdP and the EdT and I can tell you that the EdP is more delicate since you won't feel the alcohol as strong and when the vanilla comes at the end, it is dreamy... I spray the EdT on my fan blades when I want my room to smell like Shalimar for a couple of hours.
Thanks y'all..I was wondering about the edp-edt difference too before deciding on a purchase.
I love shalimar :-) for me I do get a hugging your mum as a child wearing a cashmere sweater (perhaps where people confuse with a mature scent) and the powderyness reminds me of expensive make up. It's a very cosy scent for me. Great video!
I love Guerlain and Shalimar is my absolute favourite. How can I live without this!! Love your videos :-o)
Thanks! Yes Shalimar is an outstanding perfume! I feel like it's timeless and stunning. Let's hope it is around forever! :)
I received my Shalimar edt and I’m in adoration 💞 Drys down soft and powdery vanilla. I wear this with the body shops vanilla (light floral vanilla) sprayed in a non scented lotion since they don’t make the body butter anymore or VS vanilla lace.
Nice combo!
is that true, that shalimar smells like chanel5?
It’s beautiful and I shall always own it...Thankyou for the wonderful review. I would also like Jicky perhaps.
Animalic lemon tone; bedtime and grown up baby powder .. So on point there! I really find your reviews interesting. Shalimar sort of wakes up the beast within. Its almost scary what it does, like no other.
Thanks! Shalimar is a classic that has stood the test of time!
My absolute long-term favourite. Probably always will be.
Your Review, among other glowing reviews, led to my seeking it out and dousing myself in it at my local perfume retailer. It's amazing! At the start I thought... Hmm I don't know... Then it went through so many beautiful changes. Hours later it's still with me... So soft and comforting.
+Brian Gouchie Yes it's certainly one that has to at least be sniffed if you haven't smelled it before. It's so cozy and beautiful.
Oh wow....that's so cool!! I'm already obsessed with India so this just made shalimar even better!!!
Warm, soft, seductive, sophisticated and amenably mysterious. I always said Givenchy's Pi was the perfect men's accompaniment.
Thank you again for such a wonderful review I'm definitely going to buy this I love love love samsara and this smells wonderful too thank you 😃
+Da Pra Hello sweetheart.
Horses do smell nice, I love your perfume reviews I'd love to hear your thoughts on obsession which I wore all through the nineties
My wife and I love your reviews. Thank You keep up the work.
Jules X Hi Jules! Well thanks! And thanks for Subscribing! :)
I love your reviews im gonna buy this fragrance
Hope you enjoy it!
Hi Pauline. :( I'm sorry I don't have that one. I had a sample a while ago but it only had a few drops in. It's gone now unfortunately.
When the drydown started, a strange sweet almost plasticy note started developing which was the benzoin..the notes started to clash and made me slightly giddy. Something in here isn't meshing with the rest of what would have been a winner! I'm always looking to add to my Tuberose collection.

Oh gosh really? New packaging? What is that like? I need to go and have a look!
trewthe So they DID reformulate it!! Oh I'm mad now. But I can always hunt the original scent down on Ebay!!😊
I wonder if this Shalimar was from before the IFRA regulations of 2014 which ruined most of my favorite fragrances.
I'm not sure if it's been tweaked. I hope not. There is "vintage" Shalimar which makes me think that it may have been changed. But..I really don't know.
Beautiful perfume, i imagine myself in Morocco or Turkey..eating exotic food..
great review! maybe it's strange but I can smell a little carpentry. special ancient smell...if you know what I mean. what do you think about the Shalimar initial (with the blue bow)? the shalimars have the most beautiful bottles ever!!!! thank you!
I like ur vision of perfumes .And the one u said about adult baby powder .BINGO! Thank u
I’ll subscribe
Intrigued by its popularity, i bought shalimar as a gift for my mother. This perfume is definitely suited more for mature woman, woman at age 30 or older, and definitely not something you want to wear during hot daytime. In south east asia, the smell reminds me of arometherapy incense + babypowder, a really smooth one. i wish i could explain abt it better, but that's what i can relate the most (aka im not good at explaining smells). Me and my mom didnt really like its first impression, but it's becoming so much better over time. Its cousin, samsara is much easier to wear, but shalimar is more elegant
+Centrioless They are both absolutely beautiful i think. Very different but, beautiful nonetheless. Samsara will always be my favourite though. :)
This was Princess Di's signature.
Majestic Angel was it really?? I just bought it at Ulta for $22. Was marked down!!
Love it!!
Rita Hayworth also wore it :)
No Lady Dianas perfume was Faubourg 24 by Hermès
long time ago , my piano teacher brought Shalimar from Paris / her siblings all were settled there / for my mother.
I enjoyed your review. Needless to say Shalimar smells amazing on an elegant man.
:) Thanks. I think if you have the confidence to pull it off then..why not ay? :)
Scott G it’s a WOMAN’S perfume. You could wear it if u wanna smell like a woman.
You mean a fairy.
Thanks
+Rachel Paray Hi Rachel. :) I'm sorry but I do not haven samples of either of these perfumes. :( I cannot review them until I do.
+Rachel Paray Hello!!! I now have a sample of L'Air Du Temps so..I can review it soon. :)
great review! I love Shalimar too
This was my first ever love and purchase at 16.
Just suscribed. You do a rare and really good review. I wish you the strength and persistence to carry on. Very pleasant to watch.
Thanks Scott! And welcome! :) You started with an OLD review!! But I still stand by what I said, Shalimar is legendary. ;)
Continued
It is the ONE for ever. My favorite since the 70's!
Eliora Rod :) Masterpeice! Did you know it was made by accident? Guerlain had a bottle of "Jicky" at his work station and just for fun dumped an entire load of vanilla into it...the result was Shalimar! :)
loved your review of my favorite scent ....thank you Danielle
You're welcome!
Do you notice a big difference between the eau de parfum and the eau de toilette versions? I love your reviews by the way. Someone at work was wearing Shalimar and I asked her what it was not knowing there were different formulations. Thank you, Bekah
Great review! Merry Christmas.
To you too!
I went into a room at work and the smell was so amazing from the previous person in that room - it seemed familiar and perhaps a classic scent - I tried to to find her to ask what she was wearing - wonder if it was a classic like Shalimar - I'm just frantic to know what it was
Please find her!! And tell me what it is. haha
Did you find out?
Yeah Its pure class in a bottle I don't think you could go wrong with any guerlain perfume at all 😘, I think you should introduce us to bird lol xxx
Jennifer Boardman Hah I think I may do when I upload my questions and answers responses. :)
I want to buy it just have, mostly. But I’d like to wear it some. I’m scared, though. Thoughts on Philtre vs. EDP? Or EDP vs. EDT?
It smells incredible it puts me in the early 1900s
Hi loving your vids do you think a man could wear shalimar I love strong perfumes, or should I go for samsara? I love cinnabar, youthdew, eden, clinique aromatics, angel ect. Would appreciate your help many thanks Gary
Hi Gary, if you already wear those amazing powerhouse classics you can absolutely rock shalimar! Go for it.
@@ouch110 thank you so much for your response really appreciate it
It reminds me of my mother's über stylish BFF. Didn't they recently tweak the scent as well?
Cheryl CheungBig sigh! I cannot get Shalimar EDP in my country.. I want to use the original Shalimar in place of my Samsara on weekdays... I love both, but, to be very honest, Shalimar EDP is more versatile than Samsara coz Samsara can be to overpowering when used during the day .. Tq so much for this fantastic review dear ouch110
You're very welcome! :) That's so strange that you can't get Shalimar in your country. What country do you live in?
I live in Malaysia :(
I just got the pure parfum this week.
Hallow, there .. shalimar is similer to diva by ungaro .. also to pompeia cologne
Hello, I haven't tried those I'm afraid.
I'm not too sure to be honest. I know the bottle deffo have. I think this one is relatively untouched. That could all change though when the new laws are passed next year. :(
My favorite perfume amongst others but my number one and it is not an all ladies perfume by no means
Estas deacuerdo es que este perfume es unisex y queda muy bien en la piel de un hombre un ahumado oriental
This was such a good review!
:) Thanks Pancakes! hehe
Yeah it's definitely a perfume people either love or hate I still love it 😏
Jennifer Boardman I struggle to think how anyone could actually hate this perfume though don't you? :(
Shalimar was the name of the favourite gardens of the woman whom the Taj Mahal was built as a mausoleum for.
This is Barbara Windsor’s favourite. Given a choice between parfum and eau de parfum, which would you go for?
I haven't tried the EDT. :( Yay for Babs though haha.
is this the one martin freeman smells before he dies to remind him of his wife at the last moment in netflix's film charge?
Please do a review on Coco by Chanel
Oh i was wearing Shalimar in my playboy photoshoot at age 23🤗
ooh lala!
Hello! Fellow fragrantican here. Is myrrh the same notes with oppoponax? What are the differences?
It is very beautiful! I need to get a back up of mine I think. :)
Hi dear . Is it really that fancy green by jessica simpson is a good dupe for shalimar ?
Like sitting on a pink fluffy cloud, it's so comforting
no worries about civet, it has been banned, there a man made substitute now. and shalimar edp? PURE heaven. It has a VERY special place when to wear it. not everyday but in wonderful gatherings.
It is gorgeous for sure!!
Oh, thank you so much for doing this review! It`s touching)
I appreciate your opinion on all the perfumes! This one is particularly amazing! The powderiness of this divine fragrance is so magical and mysterious, dark and warming at the same time
You`re so dedicated and enthusiastic about perfume which makes you different to most of other perfume reviewers ( don`t really fancy the word `guru`)
Keep up with it!
Smells like furniture polish at first , kinda off-putting but then suddenly about 10 mins in it becomes BEAUTIFUL ! I love to spray a bit then watch the mini film , the shalimar mini film is amazing , you get lost in the magical world of the Taj Mahal palace :)
Gina2190 I get baby powder and then half hour later it’s mostly gone..
There is a limiit on oakmoss etc that is a good fixative but now hardly any can be used, so have a check on evil bay ( eBay lol) see if you can find an older batch code bottle .
you should try L'Heure Bleue (1912) and Mitsouko ( 1919).
+j ule I have!!! :) hehe.
Vol de Nuit is very beautiful too but alas not long lasting.
gatabella3 I was the same for the longest time! And then I put it on my skin and I hated it...until about an hour later and then I was addicted.
very nice review, I would like to buy it, but I am concerned about the scent, is it smell like chanel5?
Thanks! No, it's nothing like CN5. This one is a classic amber, vanilla and citrus animalic. Chanel is an aldehyde classic wayyy different.
Such a great review ❤️
I've come back to your review of this in the light of citizen queen. Given the choice of the two which would you choose?
beavisbonce Why be so evil?
+ouch110 Fragrance Reviews Does that mean I can have the Shalimar? *cheekywink!* lol!
Haha absolutely not Nyssa Ainley SHE'S MINE...alll mine!
Ny fave along with sa.sara..but hiw do you spell civic..svivic?? /(the animal stuff) thanks
It's Civet. :)
No problem at all. :) Thanks again for subscribing.
