I always enjoy listening in on you two! And I love ''grandma'' scents! Thank you, Dahlia for challenging that dismissive phrase! I still wear Estee Lauder's Azuree and Madame Rochas, just like my mum.
Definitely some big names here. I know it had to be tough to choose only one from each house when so many of the classic brands have released multiple powerhouse fragrances over the years. As far as others that I consider iconic, several come to mind: Opium, Poison, Miss Dior, Mitsouko, Vol de Nuit. I would even consider some of the Elizabeth Arden offerings such as Sunflowers and Red Door iconic because of their huge popularity back in the late 80s and eaarly 90s, even if you don't really hear anyone talk about them anymore. I can almost smell the JC Penney store just thinkiing about them. lol
Did you know that Madonna had her "Like A Prayer" album scented with Patchouli? The inside jacket of the vinyl album! Loved it!! Smelled like a Catholic church!
Tellin’ ya, that Shalimar EDT is for everyone. The cologne formulation too. The construction is perfection, and the smokey incense/vanilla combo is killah! Championship level fragrance for anyone who digs those notes.
Every version of Shalimar is different; the note breakdown is not the same. I wish that they would have gone over the differences, versus the brevity with which this was covered, but glad it was mentioned.
Wow this took me back! In the 80s I was all about Paloma Picasso and Obsession. Youth Dew is my mom in the 70s. She was the quintessential Breck Girl meets Mary Tyler Moore and men adored her. She wore YD along with Estee and later Cabochon (?). What a fun video and it makes me want to revisit some of these.
ANGEL by Thierry Mugler is my number one perfume in the whole world 🌎. ANGEL is distinctive, you can immediately recognize it, yet it smells differently on every person wearing it. ANGEL is unique, definitely ICONIC and it's My Signature fragrance ❤️❤️❤️.
When I was in junior high, my mother bought me a bottle of Chanel 19, which I wore for a few years. Although you don’t see it all that often now, it’s still a classic to me.
I was waiting for this! I hope one of my favorite is included! Diorismo is iconic it has a TBT for me my first perfume when it came out it was gifted to me by my mother when I was sixteen years old I carried two bottles when we came here in the USA until currently I still wear them from time to time and I received a lot of compliments on it! Thank you knowing that it was Iconic!👍👍👍
Another fantastic video. I work night shift and watching these videos you make is just so great and uplifting. You both have such a happy and positive energy and it really shows and inspires. I could listen for hours and never get tired of the stories and memories that can be shared here about all these classic fragrances. You both have a great friendship and that is wonderful. I have been collecting a lot of vintage fragrances for both men and women and I wear all of them. My grandmother wore Alyssa Ashley Musk for years growing up and it’s my greatest scent memory of her and it’s a classic. I wish she was still with us because she would love to have seen all the perfumes I have collected. Thanks and keep making great videos! Bless you both 🙏💜
glad feminite du bois got a mention 🧡 I wore it in shiseido days and have tested some side by side with serge lutens and think they are pretty much the same 😊 was my signature for quite a while
Oh wow !! Caleche is My mother in law’s signature scent . I’ve never heard anyone talking about it really , so glad you guys did ❤I noticed , at least on her , it Has this powdery dry down scent trail . Really beautiful and understated. I do see the similarity to Chanel no.5 - maybe it give off that same classic vibe . Anyway I do enjoy it on her . Thanks for sharing !!
It's always nice to see Dahlia in your videos. You should do a part two. It feels like so many oldies but goodies were left off your list from yesterday and today. ~ Jenn
Shalimar is just so good! It’s the only thing I wore from my early teens into my thirties-I still love it, but like to mix things up more these days. As you mentioned, Millesime Tonka is an incredible flanker, and I’m hoping it returns as part of the upcoming 100 year anniversary (along with all the other flankers).
Hopefully Guerlain doesn’t mess up the anniversary like Chanel did for No 5. That was just depressing that they didn’t do anything but an ugly repackage…
@@ThePerfumeGuy yas, please, we need part 2! And I hope you will include an iconic ‘80s fragrance that no one is talking about: Parfum de Peau by Montana 1986. Iconic enough to appear in “Basic Instinct” 🖤
I know limiting the list to only ten means some icons will be left off... So I'm just saying that I personally would add two more in the form of Obsession and Black Orchid. 💗
Also Samsara and Georgio. My mom always wore way too much Georgio, and smoked, and then chewed mint gum. Always turned my stomach! Apparently Georgio was banned in some restaurants!
Rive Guache? Coco Chanel… have all of the list but not Clinique Araomatix … just never really tried it. Montale Blue Amber has kinda stolen my heart -it’s like the best of Shalimar and none of the shower curtain 🤣. But the EDT’s lemony goodness cannot be replaced❤. My family calls that one “lemon baby head” 😂. I have to concur! Obsession could also go on the listy.❤❤❤
Never liked LouLou or Anais Anais, call me weird. A Few of my Yesteryear Iconics ... Must de Cartier, Misha (Mikhail Baryshnikov) one of thee finest celebscents ever done.), Ysatis by Givenchy, Diva by Ungaro, Sung, Fendi, Chanel Nº19, Calvin Klein (the OG carnation beauty!), Masumi by City, Babe by Faberge, Aviance Night Musk (wore it the other day and it is so gorgeous!), Calandre by Paco Rabanne, Quelques Fleurs by Houbigant, EL Cinnabar, EL Tuscany pour Donna, EL Aliage, Coco, Coty's Wild Musk Oil, Fidji by Guy Laroche, One Perfect Rose by La Prairie, Mystere by Rochas. I could go on & on ... & on. Quality was not a problem for us back then.
Like I said many times before, I'm an Angel girl, that'll always be my scent. But as a teenager, I loved Loulou. Now my mom has told me she still has an unopened bottle from the 90's. And I'm getting my hands on that one! Now to add for future video's two more iconic fragrances I loved when I was younger : Rive Gauche from YSL and Opium from YSL. In that day and age I also loved Rochas' Alchemy and Ralph Lauren's Lauren. But I don't know if I would consider those iconic.
I'm so here for this! Thank you! I love, love, love Guerlain's Shalimar and own a full bottle. I love everything about it including the gorgeous bottle. I agree that it's quite unisex. I tried Halston's Halston in my twenties and due to my under developed nose, couldn't appreciate it.
Two fragrances that I really enjoyed wearing in my student days in the 1990s were Lace by Yardley and Amerige by Givenchy. Later on in the 2000s I got into Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf.
Oh Amarige. Man I have a great scent memory with Amarige. Because of that I gave a bottle of it to my mom. Loved the smell. Later almost 20 years later I gave my mom the original Michael Kors for Women because it reminded me of Amarige.
I’m digging these videos about iconic fragrances. I feel like hypnotic poison by Dior and opium by ysl are definitely iconic. Ohh & jean Paul gaultier classique edt. Too many great ones.
I used to wear JPG Classique before I fell in love with the Dior Poisons years later. I have also loved a Chanel one, which smells a lot like Classique but forgot the name. The classics were so much better from the past. Nothing interests me lately.
Why Noone mentioned Lancome Miracle ( it is always out if stock, because of high demand), Dior Addict ( the sales associatevwas also saying people were addicted to it), Chanel Chance ( very balanced every day perfume), Burberry Weekend?
I would also add Eau de Rochas, it was quite emblematic in the 80's (at least in France), designed for women who didn't go along with opulent 80's scents. It was the fresh alternative. I also remember Montana's Parfum de Peau, I don't know it it was very popular but the bottle was emblematic when it came out. I bought it when I was around 15 years old and loved it, my friends though not so much, probably too "mature", lol...About Cacharel, I think that every French little girl got "Anais Anaïs" gifted at some point. Even the name Anaïs became a super popular name then.
"Good girls don't smoke, dance the tango, or wear Shalimar". I really didn't know what aldehydes smell like until I smelled Picovaya Dama by Xerjoff, where aldehydes are amped up and the most dominant accord. I didn't get fizzy, zesty, effervescent champagne bubbles. That's what I almost get in the opening of Dior Eau Sauvage EDT. What I got was a strong, industrial strength cleaner irrigating my nostrils. Not good. I suppose aldehydes used in much smaller levels can do a lot for a composition. They're OK to my nose in Chanel No. 5. Hermés Equipage has an aldehyde note and it's great. I believe Penhaligon Sartorial has an aldehyde note. Great. I'm a dude, but I have a decant of Diorella coming, because I'm an Eau Sauvage fan. Never smelled Diorella but Edmond Roudnitska said it was "Eau Sauvage perfected". I bought Youth Dew for my girlfriend this winter. Also bought her the EDT of L'Interdit by Givenchy. Much different than the 1957 original I hear. But L'Interdit OG should be on this list. And Mitsouko and L'Heure Bleu, and Joy, and Vol de Nuit and maybe Arpege. But I guess not all can fit on a list of only 10.
❤hey you guys! I’ve been wearing Aromatics Elixir since the mid 90’s. I agree the scent is not the same. It’s a stunner & would get major compliments back in the day. Just beautiful! Fracas is another one I love!
Ashley (the girl you used to do videos with) did a video called "How to smell expensive" and she talked about Shalimar as being a "forbidden fragrance" in polite society
Seriously try it on your skin and walk outdoors, particularly in the spring. it’s glorious. The edp. ‘Eau Premiere’ and ‘L’eau’ are nice versions of it too.
The feminine list is longer. I am into the classics. Joy, Mitsouko, L’Heure Blue, Chamade, Rive Gauche, Cuir de Russe, Opium, Ysatis, Ma Griffe, L’air du Temps, Chanel 19, Madame Rochas, Femme, Miss Dior, Cabouchard, Je Reviens, Sortilege, Chloe, Charlie, Azuree, Aliage, Coco, Babe, Jovan White Musk…so many are lost, reformulated or discontinued. I guess the unisex list is next.
We didn't shoot a unisex list. We will revisit at a later time since In in France now. But we have shot a few other videos so those should hit my channel before we get to connect and shoot another video! :)
Shalimar is not an amber, it's an oriental. An amber must have vanilla, labdanum and benzoin, of which Shalimar only has vanilla. And even if it does have incense and opoponax, it doesn't smell resinous. The bergamot in the opening, and the vanilla, leather and civet in the dry down are what stand out the most. Regardless of classifications, though, it is absolutely gorgeous. I'm lucky because I never knew anyone growing up who wore it, so it doesn't have any kind of associations and it doesn't smell dated to me so I can comfortably wear it. PS. I own the Eau de Parfum and love it, but funnily enough I didn't really like the Eau de Toilette, so I suggest anyone interested in this fragrance, to try both concentrations and to allow it time to get to the dry down, because that's where the magic happens.
Great video! More of the 2 of you together please, always fun to watch. I feel like Narciso Rodriguez is glaringly absent from this list - definitely worthy of iconic status and it doesn't break your one-per-brand rule.
Dalia's comments on fragrances she has the wearing experience history of definitely shows she is in the know to great lengths in some subtle nuances. And Dalia @17:00 mentions the Aramis Aftershave being so good. Aramis EDT happens to be my SOTD :) love it! But even though having a modest collection of After Shaves, I don´t have the Aramis after shave. Will have to look it up. Love Pinaud´s Clubman Special Reserve, which has similarities to Aramis EDT. Great guest as always, and great video! PS. From the past, iconic women's fragrance to my nose was YSL Opium Parfum, I mean late 80's version, in the red plastic bottle with golden/transparent cap and a see through off-center circle in the body. That stuff made me think for the first time that smells could have beauty just like music or paintings. Have started smelling women's fragrances systematically only relatively recently. From my limited sample space so far, the current ones that standout for me are Givenchy L'Interdit EDP, Dior J'Adore the alcohol free one, and Prada Candy.
The Aramis aftershave has 2 versions, one is a regular edt type aftershave, and the other is my favorite the balm, but both are exceptional aftershaves. If you like the EDT you won’t be disappointed.
I had Caleche delicate and I absolutely loved it and wished I could smell it again. Angel was and always will be a 💕. Lou Lou smells too warm on me which is a shame as the notes should be perfection. On the other hand the Cacherel by Cacherel for men was a real swoon scent back in the day. Shalimar is a yes. There are a few scents I loved from the 90's and 00's one was Givenchy hot couture, also Givenchy angel/demon. The other was Dior addict which I think still is worth a look and I smelt it again recently that will definitely get in the collection soon
I’ve always felt that Lagerfeld Classic is the male version of Shalimar. How did you two leave out Tabu?! You should do an old-time celebrities fragrance list. Elizabeth Taylor’s Passion would have to make that list.
I wore Halston by Halston almost exclusively in the 80s. The "new" Halston is NOT the same- something is missing. Does anyone know what the deal is? I havent worn fragrance since the early 90s due to allergies but, boy, Halston was the best fragrance of all time for me. Full transparency- I also liked Youth Dew by Estee Lauder!
Beautiful by Estee Lauder is iconic to me, as is White Linen. My mom bathed in those scents in the 1980's and early 90's. I occasionally wear Beautiful myself 😊
Great video you two! I still have several of those iconic fragrances that live in my collection along with much newer perfumes of today. The video was like a walk down memory lane and made me spray on the first one (Caleche) mentioned as I realized that even though I once was completely enthralled with it (as well as Kelly Caleche), I rarely wear either. However, I still wear several others on your list. Another iconic perfume I would like to mention is Lanvin’s Arpege, which I still have in the pure parfum version in the round bottle with the gold cap which is absolutely beautiful and still smells really good. Thank you for this extremely enjoyable video!
My aunt wore YSL Rive Gauche. L'air du temps Nina Ricci, Madame Rochas and one from Van Cleef&Arpels (name escapes me) were the scents my mother wore in the 70s. I got a bottle of Kouros in the early 80s for Christmas from a family friend - and I hated it. She loved it and wore that and nothing else for the rest of her long life. I do love Kouros now.
Dahlia--- I LOVE your lipstick... Ok I love the list BUT... if you're going to pick ONE Dior feminine-marketed icon.... It's MISS DIOR... the FIRST fragrance Dior ever released and it's the PERFECT chypre... I have FIVE vintage extraits (one is from pre-1968) and you both would love it!! ❤
You guys are so much fun to watch together. My mom still wears Shalimar and Opium to this date. The only 2 perfumes she's ever owned. While I can respect the OG Angel, I am really enjoying the new Angel Elixir. It smells so beautiful and sharp to me and has great performance. I really love it. Hate away lol
Sebastian's grandma's bathroom will be on everyone's mind henceforth 😂 Amouage, Rive Gauche, Opium, Poison, Addict, Trésor, Insolence, D&G the original (red cap), Chloé (original)
Ugh I got Calche mini and was disgusted upon smelling, I was so surprised by how much I hated it because I normally like such notes. Hermes 24 Faubourg is a much better Hermes icon. Btw Shalimar >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chanel No. 5.
hands down ysl opium, nina ricci l'air du temps, joy jean patou, arpege lanvin, balmain vent vert should be on the list of iconic women perfumes of all time.
Funny story….When I was a young teenager in the 70s, my single uncle would buy my mom and I both a youth dew gift set every year for Christmas not knowing what else to get and probably a sales lady telling him how great it was. My mom and I hated that fragrance so much we would end up throwing them away as no one in our family or that we knew wanted it either. Lol still to think of that fragrance nauseates me but maybe I should take another sniff now that I’m an adult and appreciate fragrances much more. Thanks for the review You two!
A lotttttt of sexy grandmas out there if they smell like these. Just sayin'. 😌 Now there's a list. Top 10 sexy grandma smelling perfumes. Walkers optional. 🧓😂 Part of me wishes I was kidding.
There is indeed a resemblance between the two but Caléche is quite soapy. The same man did two more that you’d find sharing more similarities. I think Madame Rochas was one of them.
@@ThePerfumeGuy lovely to know ☺️My mum wore Moods by Krizia and Ombré Rose. Audace, which preceded both Madame Rochas and Caléche is their eldest sister. If you find it in Eau de Cologne just grab it. It’s totally unisex and beautiful.

You two genuinely have wonderful ‘best friends’chemistry. Love how you make each other giggle and smile like naughty school kids up to no good.
Completely agree.
Great list...I would add Obsession, Eternity, Giorgio, Poison, Opium, Ck one.
Lancome's Tresor is another great classic. My maternal grandmother, mother, and mother-in-law wore it in the past.
I can see this for sure.
I always enjoy listening in on you two! And I love ''grandma'' scents! Thank you, Dahlia for challenging that dismissive phrase! I still wear Estee Lauder's Azuree and Madame Rochas, just like my mum.

Jean Patou Joy the best ever women perfume created in 1933
Jean Patou 1000
L'air du Temps by Nina Ricci
Arpege by Lanvin
Femme by Rochas
Poison
Miss Dior Originale
Ombre Rose by Jean Charles Brosseau
I love Shalimar! It’s been my all time favorite for years now!
My dad wears only the vintage AROMATICS ELIXIR and he is in a bad mood, if he can't get it 😂❤
Also Samsara and Georgio. My mom always wore way too much Georgio, and smoked, and then chewed mint gum. Always turned my stomach! Apparently Georgio was banned in some restaurants!

Very interesting.....what about Opium....I loved that scent...they have copies but nothing like the original scent .
NO PIPES. NO CIGARS. NO GIORGIO
U should refrain from calling perfumes oriental.
But the Cologne is THE BEST Shalimar! Still get it at CVS but it’s being discontinued 😢
The Aramis aftershave has 2 versions, one is a regular edt type aftershave, and
the other is my favorite the balm, but both are exceptional aftershaves.
Fun video! I read somewhere Courtney Love wears Fracas too.
Miss Dior Originale
Opium by YSL is also iconic.
Iconic but not luxury fragrances ..... Emeraude, Charlie, Georgio.
I think of Hermes 24 Faubourg and Joy by Jean Patou and Bette Davis firing up a cig and the sillage cuts thru the cig smoke.
Beautiful by Estee Lauder is iconic to me, as is White Linen. My mom bathed in those scents in the 1980's and early 90's. I occasionally wear Beautiful myself 😊
Thanks for sharing!!
I loved those two as well in the 80s.
Dior POISON, ... Lancôme TRESOR
Elsa Peretti designed the bottle.
LOVE Angel and Aromatics Elixir/Aramis! I would add YSL Rive Gauche, RL Lauren, Chanel 19.
Sebastian's grandma's bathroom will be on everyone's mind henceforth 😂
Amouage, Rive Gauche, Opium, Poison, Addict, Trésor, Insolence, D&G the original (red cap), Chloé (original)
Wonderful 🎉
Ugh I got Calche mini and was disgusted upon smelling, I was so surprised by how much I hated it because I normally like such notes. Hermes 24 Faubourg is a much better Hermes icon. Btw Shalimar >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chanel No. 5.
Caleche is my new best friend, aldehydic sandalwood soap, nuclear strength & performance, makes me weak in the knees I love it so much
Fun video, but I do not like very sweet scents, which eliminates most of your list. I do like Halston. Hard pass on Shalimar, Angel, Fracas.
How about Serge Lutens fragrances? For example De Profundis.
hands down ysl opium, nina ricci l'air du temps, joy jean patou, arpege lanvin, balmain vent vert should be on the list of iconic women perfumes of all time.
8:22 Madonna music! I listen to her classics way too much!
Never tried any of these but I don't often seek out female targeted fragrances.
White Diamonds gotta be on the list 😊
Love this video! Thank you both of you
Shalimar & fracas to me are atemporal. caleche, i think is note similar to Chanel # 5. I like much more Caleche. Congrats i like prety much they video
My grandmother wore L’air du Temps so if I smell that I immediately think of her.
Love you guys! I love all those iconic fragrances.
I’d really like to hear your opinions on Lolita Lempicka
Lolita Lempicka is fabulous 😍.
Angel....the scent that made me money back in the day of nights in Paris on the streets of Montmartre 😂
What about Houbigant Le Parfum Ideal or Le Trefle Incarnat?
Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood is iconic
A lotttttt of sexy grandmas out there if they smell like these. Just sayin'. 😌 Now there's a list. Top 10 sexy grandma smelling perfumes. Walkers optional. 🧓😂 Part of me wishes I was kidding.
Ralph lauren Safari for women
Chamade
For some reason I never got into Youth Dew and Aromatics, but both were all the rage amongst my university friends in the early to mid 1990s.
I love you guys together ❤️
L'Oreal ruined Angel, and yes, Angel Elixir is trash 🗑
There is indeed a resemblance between the two but Caléche is quite soapy. The same man did two more that you’d find sharing more similarities. I think Madame Rochas was one of them.
Oh wow good to know. My mom wore Madame Rochas!!
No 5 really does just smell like grandmas because one of my grandmothers always wore it, every day.
Teenage Tabu, house of Dana, sweet pungent, dime store genre. Ugghhhh.
